Spirit7
I'm trying to get everything back together on this incomplete z I bought. Does anyone know what hose is supposed to be hooked up here? I removed the smog pump, so it might be linked to that?
seattlejester
Crank vent hose, it routes the oil saturated air generated from the pistons moving up and down to the balance tube between the carbs to be burned. OldAndyAndTheSea
Yep, that hose connects from the area in your picture, to the middle of the intake manifold balance tube (where the PCV is located) There's a special braided hose that fits there. NewZed
Oil-saturated air wouldn't really be a problem inside the crankcase, that would just be airborne lubrication. Combustion byproducts that get by the rings, aka blow-by, are the target of the PVC tube.
Spirit7
Ok, so it runs to the PCV valve? I'm not around the car to check, but going from memory, I feel like that barb was a bit bigger than the PCV valve. **edit** I was just looking at a PCV hose online and one end is larger. Yep, that's where my "uses a special braided hose" comment comes into play The crankcase vent IS slightly larger than the PCV valve. The Nissan hose is pre bent, and has the correct sized openings. seattlejester
I defer to you newzed, that may very well be the case, I was told the oil frothing reason by the zparts guy that sold me the part. The hose has a bulge on one end to accommodate the bigger port for the crank case, and the rest of the hose is thinner to fit the pcv. I think I may actually have a very slightly used one if you need a picture/replacement.

LanceVance
I've got one, but it's for an L28... not sure it's the same? If you can compare part numbers, perhaps you could see if they are interchangeable. It's standard rubber, not braided and it's yours for $5+shipping. Spirit7
another question. what is this? The other end is connected to these tiny hoses here, but I'm not sure where they hook to.
Josh280z
Those look AC related.
Spirit7
After some searching, it does appear to be related the the A/C system, I'm still doing some research to find out where exactly it is supposed to be routed.
NewZed
It's a check valve for the vacuum reservoir. It's between the intake manifold and the vacuum tank so that your heater valves don't open and shut with the throttle opening and closing. There's a diagram in the usual place.
