RebekahsZ
Just a quick FYI. Just got car back from roll bar builder. Welding and grinding on your car can ruin the glass-the sparks seem to actually melt the glass leaving millions of pits. I think it only really hurt my quarter windows (which I haven't cleaned in 20 years), but it could have been worse. The glass gets pitted and can't be fixed. Cover that glass when working in the vicinity.
str8pipez
3M makes a masking specifically for that. Can't remember the part number but I have a roll at my shop and can check tomorrow.
SUNNY Z
Yep, my Z had this, and I'm pretty sure I added to it. Good reminder though!
m1ghtymaxXx
Don't forget your chrome as well. My stock 280Z bumper is peppered with tiny rust spots after building my exhaust right in front of my car. Not that it will be used much longer of course. beermanpete
Yep. We learned that the hard way as well. Mask or remove the glass prior to grinding or welding near it.
1 tuff z
I'm in the club as well - after welding on the mounts for the PDK strut bar assembly. Keith, I have some spare 1/4 glass if you can't find any local.
RebekahsZ
Thanks, David. I only use the quarter glass to keep the rain out. I can't imagine getting my car nice enough that I'm worried about the quality of the quarter glass. But then again, I haven't driven the car against a setting or rising sun, so we will see. Thanks for the offer; I will keep you in mind Glad it wasn't my windshield (that's why I wanted to bring this to everybody's attention. Car is finally home after a prolonged absence (like 6 weeks). Got to get out there and set ride height and get some paint on all the raw metal. I know the rat-rod crew likes rust, but not me!
johnc
3M Weld and Spark Paper. Sold on Amazon.com. If your welded is stupid enough to not protect glass and interior panels when grinding and welding I would not use him again.
mattb3562
Agreed. I would be highly PO'd. Fire and damage protection should've been the first task on his list.

johnc
You learned a lesson. You generally need to protect 6' in all directions when MIG welding.
LLave
Pick up a few of those welding blankets. Even the cheapo ones work fairly well.
