Mike Mileski
Check out these bad boy billet aluminum hood hinges I just got for my '71 240. A guy named Dan MacKean (dmackean@yahoo.com) here in Tucson is making them in small lots and selling them for $450 a pair. They fit 1970-1978 Zs. He said he currently has three sets in stock. Tony D
Neat... Now, G-Nose models!
joker81
Wow those are gorgeous. $450 is a little rich for my blood at the moment though, otherwise I would get a pair right away. Hopefully these are still being made in a few months.
osirus9
Are these better than the stock hinges in some way? Besides being shiny I suppose.
psdenno
Are these better than the stock hinges in some way? Besides being shiny I suppose. Can't imagine that they make the hood open and close any better than the stock hinges. But they do offer a "Look what I got and how much spare money I had." aspect to Z ownership. clocker
They seem nicely made but to justify the price I think he needs to incorporate a strut or (some sort of) spring to eliminate the torsion bars. That would make it a more appealing option, IMO.
Mike Mileski
They have small thin Delrin disks (about 1/16" thick) as bearing surfaces between the pivot points making them super smooth operating and very tight fitting, no slop at all. Tony D
Actually, if anybody has priced G-Nose Hinges...most guys would say "not too bad" when looking at that price. Why do they need a prop rod when the hood has one anyway? The Torsion Springs are a lifting aid only...you don't need them. The stock hood stay (both stock & G-Nosed) holds the hood open, not the springs!
