skerry
Alright, I just stole the vinyl wheel well and shock Tower vinyl from my 73 to put on my series 1 71. But when I went to add it the wheel well is way wider in the 71. I can't find anything about a difference? There are some modifications to the rear hatch area but this doesn't seem to be a modification. Anybody have any idea if the earlier versions were different in this respect? seattlejester
Full size vs space saver if memory serves.
rturbo 930
Full size vs space saver if memory serves. 77/78 280Zs had space savers. I don't have a clue why your vinyl doesn't fit. Maybe pics would help?
skerry
Thanks for the response, here is a picture of what it looks like in there. http://imgur.com/EQvqgpv
seattlejester
OH the wheel well, not the spare tire well. Goodness, ignore prior quip please. Possible explanation, someone trimmed it or ripped it? I know some people have used replacement vinyl and just cut it to shape, maybe they cut it to match the panel instead of the steel? rturbo 930
It almost looks like your car was back-halved? That looks way bigger than a stock Z wheel well, although I might need to refresh my memory. Edited September 30, 2015 by rturbo
jeffer949
Looks like the rear end has been tubbed or something. The radius on the stock wheel well is very gradual. looks like that one is straight and then a tight radius to another straight piece. Not the best pic but here http://i50.tinypic.com/3357exj.jpg
skerry
I saw that, I knew it was different from my 73 but I wasn't sure if that was a year difference or something else. I knew that some work had been done and with this confirmation it seems to be a whole lot. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I knew the car was being built as a dragster but it seems like there was a whole lot more done to it than I thought.

skerry
The wheel well is a mess. My wheel well or the wheel well on these cars? If mine, in what way? I know I have wiring and seatbelt stuff in the picture or do you mean the way they widened it?
johnc
I thought the black lines from the seat belts were gaps in the sheet metal. Sorry.
