grillhands
I'm rebuilding a f54 block and I'm looking for 270-300whp. Now should I use the stock forged rods or invest in H beams that are about $380 from Zcar depot. I don't mind spending the money but if I don't need to then I won't. Thanks for your thoughts. HuD 91gt
Just a suggestion from someone who recently rebuilt their own engine. I scoured online for the cheapest prices. Amazon, rock auto, thezstore etc. I pieced together a great engine. I then found out some well known Datsun builders sell a very nice kit for a good price. Try Rebello and see if he will sell you something. Pistons, rods, bearings gaskets etc. Sounds like he sells these cheaper then what I could piece together, not to mention a tried and true setup and even included forged pistons and new rods. If I were doing it again, I'd go that route. But I did learns lots! Edited October 7, 2016 by HuD 91gt
jeffer949
Run stock rods. You don't need any more for your HP goals

clarkspeed
A set of Pauter or Carillo are 1300-1600. Normally used in 10k+ race engines
240Z Turbo
I ran race prepped (peen & polish) 240Z rods making over 500ft-lbs@wheels and trapping 134mph in the quarter. Stock prepped rods are suitable for your goals.
grillhands
Wow that's a ton of torque!
240Z Turbo
The car actually made more torque, probably over 550ft-lbs @ wheels. The dyno graph below was running 28psi balls rich with no nitrous. At the track I would run ~20psi and spray 125shot. I ran it like this for many years with no issues, but you need to make sure the car is not detonating or it could be disastrous. Chris Duncan
Just make sure they are a matched set from the same engine because they are balanced from the factory.
Nismospek
Does going with lighter rods matter or is it a half ass approach at getting a lightened rotating assembly?
