Jcmclaughlin81
Are the spindles and hub housings iron or steel. The guy I have doing the welding for me says they're iron and is kind of worried about welding the tubes to the housings due to possibility of cracking under stress. ZHoob2004
Not a direct answer to your question, but people weld these all the time. Never heard of any cracks or special preparation. TechnoToyTuning, Ground Control, Silvermine, AZC, etc. all sell weld-on coilovers and you can ask any one of them for welding advice or instructions. Neverdone
It's steel. This isn't Medieval times. It's not a cast iron skillet or something.
Jcmclaughlin81
He asked me which it was and I told him i assumed it was steel. So he puddled a little area and filed on it and thought it might be iron.

Neverdone
Don't let him weld anything of yours.
grannyknot
As Neverdone says, if he can't tell the difference between iron and steel he shouldn't be charging money for his welding "skills"
