Guest livewire23
man, you're really good at the art of cramming stuff in there. I'm feeling caustrophobic just trying to get a single turbo and intercooler piping slammed into that engine bay. Nice work, and I like all the custom stuff! SleeperZ
You aren't running any air filters, or cold air intake anymore? It looks great -- how's the tuning going? When are you planning to run it down the strip next?
240Z Turbo
tuning is going well, got the AFR's in the 11.3:1 range thus far with about 21deg timing at 18psi. Ran 1gal of Toluene this week and upped the boost to 22psi. Runs like a SOB, but the auto tranny is deceiving as it does not whip you around like the 5-speed does. The nitto drags do not spin on the street at all(no nitrous) so it just goes. I will try to make it to the 1/8th mile within the next 2 weeks. I hope to see 105-107mph and high 6's in the 1/8th. My other setup bested 102.7mph in the 1/8th.
BRAD D
Nice work, what size of tube are you using from the IC to the TB? looks big, 4" or so? And one more question, If I had a 300ZX VLSD could I use Ross C's 280ZXT CV adapters and the outer side of the ZXT CV's and the inner sides of the VLSD CV's? Could I mix and match these CV's? Thanks
240Z Turbo
from each turbo the pipe size is 1.75" and they merge to a single 2.5" to the IC. From the IC to TB it is 3" piping. For the VLSD stuff, yes you can use RossC's adapters. I just made a set of Axles for JoelS and he also uses RossC's adapters. Search under Drivetrain for the details. If you can get me the VLSD input shafts and the 280zxt outers I can have them built with new stuff for $200+shipping. So far ZGad, JoelS and myself are successfully using them. I have had them in my car for several years with NO problems.
Lockjaw
I know why you have all those pic's. So you can put it back together if you take it apart. Man that looks sweet.
Guest DaneL24
What are those blue hoses you use for the joints in the intercooler plumbing? I have seen those before and I need to know what to buy when I start plumbing together my intercooler pipes this summer Do you have an problems with them leaking or coming loose under boost? yo2001
silicon hose One with "T" is turbonetic one ($$$) the hose won't come off iff you use good hose clamps like turbonetic constant torque clamps ($$$). I got one 3 inch hump hose. I think it was like $35 from turbonetic. I paid $20 from a friend.
240Z Turbo
The blue hose was from Turbonetics, but our good friend Hoover sells them at Turbohoses.com or you can try bakerprecision.com and it is much cheaper. The SS t-bolt clamps are about $4 from my local industrial hose supplier. Please realize most of these shops like Turbonetics DO NOT make 90% of what they sell and charge out the ass for it in markup. Those same clamps are $10 most other places. If you are interested Hoover also sells them.
yo2001
I know. I got a connection at local rubber warehouse. I get just about all my hose stuff from there now. I can get just about everything free too like 1/4 inch I.D SS braided hose with flare-end (5 ft), High silica fiber blanket, and also Silcon sleeves Look around and you can always find them cheaper. BTW, back to the topic. Nice james. I want to hear some good result
Guest livewire23
I already ordered my hose from bakerprecision. Are you saying that I need special clamps too? Anyone have pictures of how their intercooler pipes are connected to the turbo?
fl327
yeah, im gonna use as many of those t bolt clamps i can, they do two things well, they keep the dang hoses on tight, and they dont rip up the couplers like your standard kragen clamp, ripping occuring when you boost and the pressure tries to pull the pipe off, and rips on the coupler through the worm gear, at the least it will slowly kill your couplers, which arent cheap. Guest livewire23
where can I find some? aren't they around $4 a pop? Am I really gonna kill my coupler in 6 months of weekend driving at 12psi?
