jeffp
The damper significantly reduces the pulsation that occures in the fuel rail from the injectors opening and closing. Without the damper you will have a very hard time getting the fuel management to do its job effectivly. The idea here is to keep as constant pressure at the inlet of the injector as possible so that it will deliver a consistant amount of fuel each time the injector opens. Some of the new cars run two dampers, and I think that is not a bad idea. There is a company that has made a ball type damper that I have considered installing on my car as well. You can find them on the web if you do a search for fuel damper.
SleeperZ
I've examined my fairly closely, and it is not in the least restrictive. You can see daylight through the thing - it just has a spring loaded diaphragm inside to smooth out pressure pulses. If yours is bad, it's way easy to pull one off another car in the scrapyard.... BayAreaZT
Is the NA damper the same as the turbo damper? I don't have one on my car right now. I just have a filter before the fuel pump. I'm wondering if not having a fuel damper is causing my top end problems.

Drax240z
Hmm, I'm not using a damper of any type... I have a bit of a 'hiccup' every once in a while, under light throttle cruising. Anyone done any comparisons before/after?
z-ya
I get the same occasional hickup during light throttle cruising too, and I'm also not running a damper. Hmmmm.... Pete
yo2001
SOme of the hick up is from the dampner I'm sure but I get hick up with my BOV flattering every now and then.
fl327
I left the damper in place when i did the swap (stock 280z damper) no hiccups then. I did pick up a hiccup when i pushed down plug gap to 35 and messed with timing a little...hmmm?

Scottie-GNZ
never used it and most modded L28ETs with aftermarket pumps do not. No problems that I ever heard of.
