Guest Soup80
I just installed a 60mm throttle body, but just realized that the Throttle Positioning Sensor for the 240sx is facing the opposite direction. The stock TPS is facing towards the back of the engine compartment. Can I mount the sensor facing the opposite direction or do I have to open up the TPS and modify it? If so... How do I do that? Your help will be appreciated?
materchan
i just unhooked my wiring harness so i have the clearance to hook into the tps in my page you can see how the harness is pushed forward. http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=422651
Guest Soup80
It is kinda hard to see the tps in your pictures. Is the tps put on the opposite way on the 60mm TB? On the Stock TB the Tps has the connection prongs facing the back of the car. Will it still work if it was facing the other way? Will the cable reach? slownrusty
The wires will reach, you have to separate the TPS wires out of the harness jacket that it is combined with and then give these two wires their own protection jacket. Everything will work perfectly. Ensure you recalibrate the KA24 TPS as per the Datsun shop manual, otherwise your car will probably not start and if it does, it will run poorly. Very easy to do, so long as you have a good multimeter. I have the same KA24 TB on my '83 ZX Turbo. I apologize for the poor picture quality. Good luck - Yasin
Forrest
I'm about to install one as well - I dont' see anything in the FSM about recalibrating it, though. Is it under a different section than "engine fuel" ?
Guest Soup80
Slownrust, I thought that I could use the TPS from the OEM TB that was on my 280.
fl327
your stock tps should work.
slownrusty
No...you have to use the KA24 TPS not the ZXT. I have never seen a L28 TPS used in conjunction with the KA24 TB. I guess its possible but you would have to fab-up some brackets to mount the L28 TPS on the KA24 TB. In the Z factory manual, if you look under the section that talks about the EFI, there is a good step by step procedure on how to set the TPS using a multimeter. zcarnut
I reversed the position of a 240SX TPS by first removing it’s plastic cover (drill out the rivets heads) and then remove the plastic wiper that is engaged by the throttle shaft. I then drilled out the keyway in this plastic wiper, reversed it's orientation by 180 deg and formed a new keyway with JB Weld. I used some very thin masking tape on the throttle shaft to prevent the epoxy from adhering to it.
Guest Soup80
OK... I think I solved that problem by using the old TPS from my 280z. I can mount it by drilling some holes through it. Now..... I have the problem of the vacum hoses. The hoses that were conected to the original TB are a lot bigger than the fittings that are on the 60mm TB. Can anyone help me out? Forrest
Again, I don't see anything in the FSM about calibrating the TPS. I see where to check it to see if it is working. That says "check for continuity." I am looking under Engine Fuel. Is there more information somewhere else?
Guest Soup80
I finally got it on, but I am having problems with my idal...It is sometimes at 2000rpm or it will have a tough time staying on. I did not connect any of the vaccum hoses because I do not know which goes where on the 60mm TB. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. pallnet
Most of the time the TPS plug is damaged or get's damaged some kind of way through the years. I often include a newer quick release type of connector with a bit of a pigtail on it in my TB kits. This solves two problems at once.
