Definately an awesome time, a Z28 miiiiiiight pull a high 12 but more like a 13 second car. I see alot of Z cars only pulling Z28 numbers, even though they are 1000+ pounds lighter, so you did quite well IMO!

Imagine an NA car, getting ~20 MPG and running high 9s!

I don't see why an LSD would be that important in a straight line with an IRS car. Granted, I've never driven a high powered Z before, but in a dead straight line, I could easily lay down dual stripes with the old L28.

Now tires and gears - very critical. I wonder what the results would be with a 2nd gear launch?

Gary - Nope, just now starting to actually put it together. You might give John a call and see what he can tell you about the headers. This last set he has are OK on the driver's side and close enough on the passenger side that he said he'd just cut and reweld if it's not just right.

Mike - Actually that was too close to the truth. I have a habit of missing 3rd. It's about 1/4" further than my arm reaches without leaning forward. That's why I'm having the shifter moved back a bit on the T56. That grinding sound really grates on me. I'm still figuring I'm going to have to try some runs starting in 2nd. It may screw the 60' a bit but I might make it up by skipping a shift. Anyone tried that?

I got fog/rained out of sacramento...

I got my tires at the salvage yard from a Dodge Conquest. I bought the tires and rims complete with a nail/screw in each. As far as the brand, one is goodyear and on is BFG. I plan on getting some good tires/rim/suspension soon.

Do you mean one of the joints broke, or the actual shaft? What kind of axles are you using, stock UJointed or CV?

Breaking UJoints is very common. Breaking CVs is virtually unheard of. Breaking Stub axles (the shaft that runs thru the bearing carrier of the strut) is pretty rare, but not unheard of. I've never heard of anyone actually breaking the half shaft itself though.

If you break a stub axle, and the car has rear drums, then chances are that the whole wheel would fall off.

That is highly impressive:

(very large version of the same image here )

Musta been somthing wierd going on with the launch or the shaft or something to cause the shaft to go instead of the joint.

When I first saw that, I thought that sway bar was a bent up part of the shaft. (That is a sway bar, right? Mine doesn't have a rear sway bar)
