I searched but the only thread that was about widening wheels ended without any info.

i just got some 280ZX turbo wheels for dirt cheap at the local pick N pull.

they are perfect!

i want to throw a set of slicks on these but i want to widen them about 2 inchs.

anybody does this before on here? alloy wheels NOT steel wheels.

any body know how much it might cost?

if i do widen them then what happens to the offset?

any info would be great

I used 800-FIX-ARIM about 8 years ago on a wheel that debeaded a tire and ground on the asphalt for a bit and had a big flat spot. It was also pretty dented right there too. They returned it looking great, ran true as well. I seem to remember that fix was fairly expensive, so your cheap wheels might not be so cheap after you pay to have them sawed in half and welded back together.

Brown GN powered z car?

I remember the motorcycle slicks on the swastikas, which are my favorite factory z wheels, they look like turbos, and they are so 80s I need another bump.

I looked into widening swastikas once upon a time, I wanted to do zgs and

have 10" wide swastikas 8s in front, cost as much as watanabes...

Expect to pay about $150/wheel + shipping both to/from. Unless you are just hung up on swastikas, it is not worth it, IMO. When you run a true slick you do not necessarily need a very wide tire so the Phoenix 26x6-15 might fit just fine. Phoenix recommends a 7" rim.

HOWEVER, keep in mind that slicks are bias-ply and you SHOULD run a bias-ply front tire also. IMHO, not worth it either. Been There, Done That. Go to the Mustang boards and get a pair of used 15x7 or 15x7 Draglites and buy a pair of 235/60-15 MT DRs. I am running 255/50-16s on 16x7.5 Z32 wheels and they hook like mad when you get them heated up. Already have a 1.51 60' w/o trying as I was focused on other problems the car was having. DRs have come a long way and these are as close to a slick as it gets. You do not have to deal with top-end stability issues, or driving in rain or leaks and punctures and most of all, changing tires when goint to the track.

one of the GRM challenge cars was a BMW 2002 that had a set of widened stock BBS wheels on it. they had the entire process documented online somewhere? what they did was to take one pair and cit them up, slicing a band from the middle-ish part of the wheel, then they cut the other two and welded in the band, machining it down. to the best of my knowledge they did'nt have any problems autoXing on them...you could probably search bimmer.org or classic2002registry for their posts.

wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a set of the right width wheels that you want? if you ahve to ship them to widen them its gonna end up costing a lot in the end. Just sounds like the easiest thing to do

Mike.. there is a shop right off 1960 that can do it, they also straighten rims.. although they might laugh at the size of them when you bring them in. My friend had some alloy integra wheels done there.

They use some sort of laser to do it... very interesting.
