tfreer85
Okay, I'm building up a KA24DE, stroking to a 2.6 (http://www.importperformanceparts.net/ ). I'm now to the point of deciding on what turbocharger setup I want to do. I'm looking at the Arizona Z Garret T04 Turbocharger ( http://www.arizonazcar.com/turbos.html ) since my hp goal is around 500hp any thoughts on this turbo for a 4cyl? What my real question is what is the real difference is between a top mounted manifold and a bottom mounted manifold? Everyone always says that the top mounted is better, but why? The only real theoretical reason I can think of is hot air rises faster which would allow quicker spooling of the turbo. Can someone explain the differences, along with the pro's and con's of both? mc
top mounts drain the oil down better to the pan.

mc
Thats it? and Why is that so much better?...its important for the oil to get back into the pan......gravity is putting it back into the pan on the return line....if the turbo is mounted to low in relation to the oil pan it becomes a problem. S15 200sx owner
I really dont think it has much to do with actual performance, but more so to do with space avalibilty (especially for large turbos) and just plain old looks, people like showing off their big flash shiny new turbos. Clifton
I saw the topic and though it was something else:biggrin: As for mounting, the turbo that is. It's just packaging. As long as the oil outlet is higher than the oil level in the pan there won't be a back up of oil in the turbo. Curious. Don't those already have a pretty long stroke? How much more displacement do you gain for the $$? Why not just add 2 psi more?
tfreer85
"IPP's stroker kit consists of 5.5mm more stroke that when added to the increased bore = 440cc more cubes of usable power! Our stroker kit increases torque as much as 30% & 40 Horse Power! This means more pulling for 4X4 applications and faster acceleration for Street and Circle Track. Can be used with any type of engine including EFI & Turbo's." Is what the website claims one of the major reasons I want to stroke it is all forged internals which will allow for that extra 2psi. The stroker kit actually works out to be slightly less than if i were to buy all oem forged. Also I'm looking at another Z a 260 so 2.6 liters of displacement for my 260Z. The stroker kit also claims "Our stroker kit increases torque as much as 30% and 45 Horse Power!" As for the turbo manifold thank you for clarifying the differences. Clifton btw what did you think the topic was on?

Deto will be the limiting factor on boost. Not forged or cast. 400cc's is a good increase. I didn't think it was car related.
Supra510
Hopefully you have all the parts for the stroker kit and all is well, however if you have not ordered you might look at this thread first. http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=253869&highlight=flatlander The author is pretty respected in the Supra community and did not have a good experience. Flatlander is the domestic side of IPP and I think they do all the machine work at the same place. I've talked with Phil at Flatlander as well when I was looking for a shortblock and "arrogant *******" as the thread says, is a very apt description. That turbo flows alot however that A/R ratio on the turbine side is too big unless you don't mind a lot of lag. Might work out if you could find a small A/R but you'll have to run high boost to be in the efficiency range of that turbo with your displacement. I got my turbo at http://www.cheapturbo.com and was very happy with the price, product and customer service. I met a guy at the recent Mt. Shasta Datsun meet that purchased from them as well and was also pleased. They have good prices and will take the time to talk with you unlike some places. Oleh
you should run a GT32R or a SC61, most people run these and see 450-500rwhp...
spork
I had problems when purchasing from IPP/flatlander and theydidn't seem to really care much about what they were selling. Sorry about adding to the thread jack...
