auxilary
Info: 93 rx7 R1 model, 70k miles. salvage title due to theft (I have a carfax for it too). PM me for friend's phone # more pics here: http://www.datsunracing.com/forsale/fd Bad stuff: - A/C doesn't work. All the pieces are there, though. - Will need tires soon. Plenty of tread, but they're old and starting to dry rot. - Nose is wavy. Urethane nose got hot and sagged. Apparently a common thing with those cars in hotter climates. - Salvage title due to being a theft recovery. You pulled a Carfax report for me, and this is reflected there. - Some interior cracking. Not bad for a 12 year old car, but it's still something that people need to know about. - Worn bushings holding the differential to the subframe. Clunks when shifting. - Boost is turned down (more on this in a minute). - Stock exhaust is on the car but has a small hole in it. - No cruise control. This is due to the car being an R1 model. Good stuff: - Car was inspected at Rotary Performance (RX7.com) and came back with a clean bill of health. They were particularly impressed with the compression numbers, and thought that the motor had been rebuilt at some point. - Petit Racing air intake. Apparently, those cars run into boost control problems if there are changes made to both the intake and the exhaust systems. Rotary Performance told me that they thought that the wastegate line has a "pill" in it to turn the boost down in preparation for exhaust mods. - Fluidyne radiator. - Metal air seperation tank. - Brembo slotted/crossdrilled rotors (~300 miles on them) All in all, the car is in pretty good shape, both mechanically and cosmetically. I'd say that it's in especially good shape for a 12 year old car. I have the stock airbox if anyone wants it for emissions inspection. I'd take $10,500 for it. Forrest
I know a guy who is looking but he will have to at least have some pics and and asking price up somewhere... I would have an FD if I didn't commit myself to one chassis.
auxilary
don't have that info off hand, but I'll get it soon, or your friend can shoot jack an email, put them in direct contact and take the middle man out of the picture
datsunlover
Just for $hits & giggles... is this a runing/drivable car, or is it a candidate for an LS1 swap?
auxilary
both. he originally bought it to swap an ls1 into, and then got himself a c5r 427 motor. IIRC, it's a running drivable car
mas28O
ls1/ls2 is the only way to go on a FD.

Mikelly
My oldest stepson just sold his 93 TT RX7. It had a bunch of mods, custom paint, lots of PFS SuperCar parts, and a new clutch. However, the transmission needed a lot of work and the kid was in over his head. Fortunately he only owned the car for 2 months and got out of it what he paid for it. These cars are nice platforms for LS1 transplants or daily drivers. However, Jim Pearl aka BLKMGK on here, will tell you, they don't like being modified much. The motor is delicate, and doesn't handle large doses of boost. Alex, any idea what your buddy would like to get for it? Mike
auxilary
it's in the post look at the last lines of the quote. $10,500. the "delicate motor" and "doesn't like mods" is not a true statement for the 13b-rew. You have to modify it to make it more reliable. Smog equipment and restrictions are what made the motor weak in terms of reliability. Too much backpressure and heat in a confined space resulting in vaccuum lines drying out, turbos going out, and apex seals blowing. reliability mods for 3rd gen rx7s: http://www.robrobinette.com/reliabiltiy.htm
Mikelly
Well I personally know two of the guys who used to work for Peter Farrel Supercars (Famous RX7 Tuner from the 90s) and one of them is the guy who welded the cage into my Z, and the other is the co-owner of http://www.mazdadrivers.com HPDE events. BOTH told me what I stated above... Those motors are delicate and finicky! Mazda should have done a better job from the beginning to get the operating temps down and to fix the apexi seal issue from the factory! auxilary
well, if you think about it, mazda stopped rx7 production to the US in 95. Japan continued to produce the FD until 99 because japan has different smog restrictions than US. I'm not saying the FD motor isn't weak, but the US version was hindered by smog restrictions, that eventually led to quicker failure. [/quote'] FD3S - 1993-2002 if Im not mistaken with the 99+ having the restyled front end/spoiler/air dam/tail lights/wheels. Last version was the 2002 RX7 Spirit R. Im still looking for the perfect FD to call my own. Awesome cars even if a little finicky, well worth it.
Mikelly
It kills me that they couldn't make it more dependable...One of the sexiest cars on the planet, and that motor just SUCKED... I would LOVE to have one of those with an LS1 in it! Mike
