Cruez
Ok, pulled the booster out tonight. Seemed to work fine when I parked it (5 years ago or more) Now, to save me the hassle, how can I test to make sure it is working correctly. ??? BTW, when I took it out.... brake fluid came pouring out ......Leaky master cylinder?
Thumper
Too test the brake booster just put a vacuum pump on it and make sure it holds the vacuum. If so good if not bad. The fluid could also be from condesation or rain but that usually means the booster is bad.

If you see a booster that has the paint peeled off and is all rusty under the master that's from a bad master. The fluid doesn't come out of there unless somebody takes the booster off and pours the fluid out.
mark
If you need a new master, I've got a new rebuilt one from NAPA that was just taken off my car. About 3 months old. Killer deal for you for the help you have given me. PM me if you are interested.
Cruez
I took the master off a few weeks ago to rebuild and powdercoat it ( the guts were in pretty bad shape) but haven't put it back together yet... thanks for the offer Mark.. My biggest concern it the booster.. with all the fluid that came out of it, I am afraid that the internals of the booster may have went south... I hate to put a bad (or going bad) piece back in. no vacuum pump here.....question though, if I put pressure on the vacuum port on the booster, should any air leak out of it??? AK-Z
it my impression that the BMC is suppose to be a sealed unit (except the filler caps) and should not leak inless its going bad. BTW how mucah are rebuild kits?
Cruez
I am almost certain you cannot rebuild the booster, no way to get them apart.
Pop N Wood
MSA use to sell rebuild kits for the boosters. Or was it rebuilt boosters? I know they offered something, at least for the early Z's (mine is a 70). But IIRC they were very expensive. Probably better of getting a used one somewhere. Cruez
I think I may have one up in the garage attic.....
DaleMX
The Datsun 280Z service manual details how to rebuild the Booster and MC.
Cruez
How is it possible to take it apart????? Its crimped:confused: I wish it were true. I wanted to powder coat it specifically since it will resist brake fluid.
Cruez
Looks like the old booster was in fact shot. Found one in my stash in the garage attic that doesn't leak.... although I still can't powder coat it
