73ZCAR
The car is looking great Mull, I love the cage and the flares. For those looking for steel flares in North America, These guys have them on page 31 of their current catalog. http://www.blackdragonauto.com/index.htm They look like this. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=12425&cat=500&ppuser=14594 Unfortunately the catalog is not available online. Can't wait for the next video, Mull. Mike.

SuperPickle
Hey, man! I just wanted you to know that your videoes are what finall convinced me to spend my travel claim on a 280z! Darius' videos got my attention, but your's are what decided it. Now, all I need are sponsors
mull
Uggh. I just feel like whining a bit. No updates, other than this. I'm close to 6.1 ft - I'm too tall for the car! Well, not really but I'll whine about it anyway I've figured, while very pretty, the rollcage isn't using interior space fully. The roll bar could've been placed an inch or two farther back. To make a long story short: I may have to cut the floor and lower the seat to keep my head from hitting the roll bar and the one that runs between the A and B-pillar by the roof of the car. I have to stretch a little to get my head to touch the cage, but still. Sure, the cage will get a fair share of padding, but I think I want more space. That is, still being able to peek over the dash to see where I'm driving at, too. I've just put in the seat on the floor with OMP mounts (pretty much as low as they can get [while tilted]) and the head space is a bit concerning... As are the Tilton pedals. I really really really want to use them (floor mounted) but I'm not so sure there's room unless cutting the firewall to make room for the cylinders *sigh* : ) Anyway, there's a guy I know who has cut floor of this car to make room in order to fit. He's close to 6.3 ft and needed to expand the teeny tiny cockpit of his (240z arch rival) Opel GT (forum thread!) If it worked for him, it should work for me. Rumor has it he did most of the modifying with a sledgehammer... Think I'll do some cutting instead of bashing my poor li'l Z. Whaddayathink? About the lowering the floor part. Good idea, bad idea, insane idea? Anyone got a shrinking device handy? I dunno, just brainstorming I guess. Any input appreciated =) Hey, man! jbc3
Mull, I feel your pain. When I first laid out my roll bar, I was planning on using the stock seats in my 280Z. At some point, way after the roll bar was welded in and within the time when I was getting ready to start the motor in the car, I decided to use the leather seats out of the donor 95 Z28. The seats are taller, wider and thicker than the stock seats, but they are so much better looking and so much more comfortable, so in they went. I modified the seat brackets to get them as low as possible, but the seat position is just a little tall and a little too forward to be perfect. At some point (probably never), I may remove/modify the brackets that the seats mount to and modify the roll bar... until then, I have decided to just suck it up. If your car is still stripped, I'd go ahead and lower the seat mounts. Do whatever to get it right before you get to the point of no return and never do it. Besides, you need to do this and video the floor drop and foot-well extension for your next video production Jody
lazycyril
6'3" here, I end up putting the seats way back in every vehicle. Also give yourself an extra inch or 3 for a helmet. (padding on roll cage) Debating what to do in my 69 roadster, the heater/defroster duct on the console center is already missing and I still need more leg space there. first gear is under my knee! and second under my thigh.. Need smaller steering wheel to get in and out easier. My clown car Oddly appropriate too. Gronk!
buZy
6 feet here. Street car in reality. Single open hoop bolt in autopower. Seat pans to lower the ride and back. Pics in my gallery. Wanted to cage it but just seemed difficult without making it a huge project. Less safe, No spec.. but less weight. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=11014&cat=500&ppuser=10889
mull
If your car is still stripped, I'd go ahead and lower the seat mounts. Do whatever to get it right before you get to the point of no return and never do it. Besides, you need to do this and video the floor drop and foot-well extension for your next video production Jody Thanks for the encouraging thoughts : ) The car is still stripped - so it's not near the point of no return. I'll look into cutting the floor/subframe and reinforcing everything some more. Not sure about the firewall though. But I guess it's "just" a bunch of cutting and welding to get it all to work out. The part closest to the firewall has to go/move forward... Why the hell didn't I think of this earlier? No shortage of "trial and error" on this build. Haha! =) "old" pic during construction
