Savage42
Well, since I was going to get all the nuts, bolts & brackets zinc plated, I thought I'd do the JCI parts. What do you think?
DavyZ
Came out almost "factory" looking; I like it! Who did you get to do the plating? I've never looked into zinc or cad plating, but how much would like run the average Joe? Nice! Davy
Savage42
They will do a "lot" for $58 and that's usually about a 12" square box full of stuff. I got everything done on my car in 2 lots, so a little over $100. They have the clear zinc (which is what I had everything done in) and the typical gold (Cad) variety. With a silver car, the clear zinc works better, but the stuff does look OE with either type. A "lot" of anodized aluminum (clear, red, blue, black) is $65 and they strip whatever color it is and will do it in those colors. I did my aluminum parts in clear anodizing, so it keeps the aluminum color without getting dull or crusty. It was done by: http://www.qualitymetalfinishing.com here in Eugene, OR. JMortensen
I'm pretty amazed at how clean zinc coating looks. Really nice stuff there!
EvilC
I really do like that also.......hmm might steal the idea...lol
Guest Mike
It's possible to clear anodize over zinc plating, right? Does anyone know if the anodization is really necessary to protect the zinc?
pallnet
Looks awsome, IMO that's how they should be sold. VERY NICE..

Does anyone know if the anodization is really necessary to protect the zinc? I don't think so. Anodizing is used as a "plating" of sorts for aluminum. The zinc plated parts (steel/tin/etc) will pretty much stay that way, if kept clean. I figure that it's worth the extra time & effort to keep them looking nice for a long time. Guest Mike
Hey, that's great news. I'd heard that the zinc plating will eventually erode... fade away. Those parts look FANTASTC!! I'm now convince to follow the same path with mine.
Savage42
The key to a nice plating job is good prep. I had all the bolts stripped and acid dipped and bead blasted all the larger stuff. It all came out really nice. They strip off old plating and redo, making them look new again.
DavyZ
Thanks for the info, Gary. Again, everything came out looking great! I'll see if I can source someone here locally first, but use them if need be (shipping *ugh*). Davy
Kbhead
I'm assuming you had to take off the black paint before they were zinced? Very nice!
Savage42
Yep, I took the old bead blaster to the black parts and trans crossmember was just bare metal, so it was done already.
