Gollum
Just remember though m4xwell, if they can do it, anyone can do it. Our country doesn't give companies special rights to importing laws as compared to individuals. Anything they did to legalize it an individual "should" be able to do. It's just having the right connections to the right people.
Corzette
So what does it really cost to get a car shipped from Japan? Hey guys chiming in. Hi Mike. Mine was $3200 for shipping plus $400 Jap customs fee to get it to Cali. Its on its way to Texas now for another $2500. Once it hit Cali, American customs and transpo fees add up. So Mike was right a little over $5000 to Texas for the Hakosuka. American President LInes is the one I used to ship. Prices are up due to fuel prices Im sure. used to be about $1200 for a 20 foot container a few years back. Terry
gogriz91
Nice ride, it's hard to believe what is lusted for in the States can be had for comparative change on the mainland or Okinawa. I spent 3 years at Kadena and 2-1/2 at Yokota, I'm looking forward to being TDY to Kadena this summer and hope to catch some kind of car event in July or August...just make sure it makes it on to ZY. Meaning you can buy the car with a title, bring it to the DMV, and register it as a normal car.
Gollum
Yea, I know what you meant. And it's a shame they're not doing it anymore. But they didn't have any special arrangement with the department of transportation. They just knew the laws inside and out and knew who to bring the cars to in order to get them into the DMV system correctly.
m4xwellmurd3r
well they did a bit more than that acording to a wiki article i found Motorex, sacrificed a small number of R33 GTS25s for the purpose of crash testing. They submitted their information to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and petitioned them to allow 1990-1999 GT-Rs and GTSs to be imported, at the condition that they were modified to meet federal motor vehicle safety standards. Many Skylines were subsequently imported through Motorex. This lasted until late 2005, when the NHTSA became informed that not all 1990 through 1999 Skyline models would perform identically in crash testing. Motorex had submitted information for only the R33, and told the NHTSA that it was sufficient for all R32, R33, and R34 models[citation needed]. According the further review by the NHTSA, only 1996-1998 R33 models have been demonstrated as capable of being modified to meet the federal motor vehicle safety standards. After that, only these 1996-1998 models are eligible for importation.
Pete84
A while back I read up on the subject on importing a 96-98 R33, and from memory, a few items to be replaced for NHTS compliance: mirrors- objects in mirror closer than they appear, speedometer - mph instead of kph, assorted safety stickers, of course a VIN for registration. I woul LOVE to see how much of Motorex's price on those imported Skylines was overhead, and how much was profit.
nakagusukumike
engine is down at the shop now and I'm in a rental car. I'll keep you posted on the updates of the engine rebuild and swap. all of my parts are in except my intercooler. OS giken 2 plate damper type clutch. twin GTS-t type M AFMs, Greddy pod filters, SARD 280 fuel pump, copper radiator, and I'm just going with N1's for now. Probably going with 2530's in a few months or a year or possibly something a little larger. But keeping twins.

nakagusukumike
engine itself (bottom/top/head) is good for 800/850 HP but my turbines will be the limiting factor. I'll more than likely upgrade the turbines. nakagusukumike
BTW, this is going to be a twisties car. I'm not aiming for any 1/4 mile times at all. I'm looking for response and a good suspension setup.
nakagusukumike
I had the engine torn apart and found out that it is not a complete HKS 2.8 kit. But it is a 2.8 kit and the parts are pretty good. HKS full counter stroker crank. Crower rods and some unknown pistons. I also came across some LED tail lights, an R33 GT-R Mission, new trunk lid with the lip that I like on it and new headlights because mine are cross eyed. Threads suck without pics so... here they are!.... My engine is built. Head is on. Turbos are hung. Car should be driving by next weekend.
