zero
So my project for my engineering design class was a bamboo bike. Local (nj) bamboo, torched and baked. Joints made of individually wrapped strands of carbon fiber. CNC'd dropouts, hand machined bottom bracket, head tube, seat adjuster. Hope you guys like it. X64v
Ha, that's pretty cool. Did you ever put a seat on it?
zero
yea its got a seat in one of the pics, the resin seatpost adjuster resin wasnt dry in time for the first test ride.
MJLamberson
looks cool, how strong is it?
zero
certainly strong enough for general road riding. I think I would want a slightly beefier rear triangle for a mountain bike, but I don't think I'm gonna break this short of taking if off of stair sets. MONZTER
Custom frame builders actually sell this type of bike. http://www.calfeedesign.com/bamboo.htm Check out the prices. Good Job, and cut that steer tube before you hurt yourself...
mannyvig
That is awesome!! I need one now. I was just riding home when some young chick decided to gun the throttle as I passed in front of her. Needless to say my bike is totaled and I'm hurting like hell. So if anyone has an awesome road bike let me know. Again Such an awesome bike great work!!! zero
haha. The fork is borrowed and very expensive so it stays while I wait for mine to come.
MONZTER
Hey, Whats up with the LHD? You going to run fixed or freewheel with a front brake.
zero
I am gonna be riding mine fixed, the left side drive was half accident. We accidentally put the bottom bracket housing in backwards, and upon realizing that the left side chainstays were thicker anyway we decided to run with it and build it left side drive. Miyata, but its old and I think a 12 speed. Haven't ridden in about 7 years though, so I can't remember. It was about 1000 new, but I'd love to give it a new home.
