Hailstorm
Alright, here's the story, when I get my father's 240z Eventually, I want to have an entire plan as to what I'm going to do with it. I have some really radical plans, and I really really want to make this car live like the day it was born. I need ideas for the dash. The current one I tried to fix with the alternate dash repair method but it ended up cracking and stuff. I still have the original dash in there, so I need some ideas. I've got a few ideas, and I'm willing to learn or get other people to fiberglass/weld etc... If you voted on something, let me know why you did, and your thoughts on the project.... rturbo 930
How about covering the old one with fabric? I've seen the 240z dash covered in suede (I think) and it looks fantastic. That's what I plan on doing.
MJLamberson
I very much agree with rturbo

Challenger
Most upholstering shops would do this but I bet its reallly $pendy.
Hailstorm
Most upholstering shops would do this but I bet its reallly $pendy. actually thats good to know because I'm looking at getting this done For me at this point, it's either make up a new dash out of Fiberglass, get a whole dash cover(cheapest and easiest) or get it upholstered (best looking imo,but most expensive ) Anyone have any price estimates on what something like getting it covered in material will cost? I can call, but of course I'm too lazy

aziza z
Jackhammers interior costed around $3000. Any idea what the suede dash was alone though?
jerryb
I sugest fiberglassing the aluminum design below!
WizardBlack
Take a peek at mine in my projects thread. Cheap on materials and comes out nice. It's covered in Alcantara. It's all down to how complex you make the dash, but it doesn't take much to make it come out very nice.
smoorenc
Well I just gave a deposit at a place in my town in NC to have the dash covered like this: I hope it comes out good. They are even going to make stitching that says Datsun 280Z on it over the glove compartment area. The estimate was $300 I hope it doesn't go too much higher. jerryb
$300! If they do a nice job I will send them a dash to cover. Thats a great price!

24OZ
If I'm not mistaken the last pic BRAAP posted of the suede dash with stitching has been created by a guy in Norway, he has a shop where they have their own in house interior specialists, they've done a lot of dashes like this, and not just for Zs. His work looks awesome.
ckolander
Holy Dollar Batman, $300, post some pics of the finished, if it's nice I'll ship my dash out to get it done.
JSM
Keep it simple. A dash cover looks great, is easy to install, relatively cheap and in my opinion, unless the rest of the car is in tip top shape should really be the last place you spend money. It's just a dash after all.
Globerunner513
^ thats a good point. If the rest of the car is mostly stock, having a leather dash or something like that would seem somewhat out of place. But would look good none the less. I'm also interested in how the dash turns out from that shop.
inlawZ
any updates on the $300 job?
