Twentyfourouncer
Moving to Portland area shortly, what areas are good to live in, and what areas would I need to worry about finding my car up on blocks in the morning?
big-phil
I'm from Maine, so the first place I think about is Portland Maine?
lgoodson@pacbell.net
Oregon? Avoid SE Portland Known as felony flats and North portland, You'll see why. I am originally from that part of the world (Mt Hood) so I know it well

hughdogz
There are no real dangerous places to live in Portland, compared to some big cities like Chicago or L.A. I second lgoodson: We have a wedge sector model of the city...out toward SE 82nd it is nicknamed "felony flats" where the tweakers and hookers proliferate. There is also N. Portland where some crackheads tend to hang out. However, like most other U.S. cities, we have been undergoing re-gentrification. Some of those areas that were once considered "bad" are actually a very good place to move into. The "rich" part of the city could be considered the west side (either SW or NW). It was even mentioned by Art Alexakis (sp?) in that Everclear song "I will buy you a big house way up in the West Hills...". Hope this helped... woldson
Id try to avoid oregon... I was thinking the same thing. Beautiful state, beautiful city. Some people have been moving there from another place and wellllll, enough said. Sorry Braap, I know you live there. Washington isn't much better. Twentyfourouncer
Sorry, I did mean Oregon. And trust me, I am not your typical Las Vegas person, I don't drive a Hummer, I don't have 24" rims, my wife doesn't have bolt-ons or a little Paris Hilton dog in her purse, I know how to drive, I don't pluck my eyebrows or moisturize, I don't have a tribal tattoo or gel in my hair, my bluejeans are from Costco, and I didn't even own a cell phone until I moved here. I have been a fish out of water here in Las Vegas for the past 2.5 years and have hated every minute of it. Thus I am moving.
jgkurz
Here's my brief, simplistic and unorganzed reply... Disclaimer:this is my observation with no judgment implied Beautiful Diverse Green Rainy Scenic but cold beaches Politically VERY Liberal west of the Cascade Mt range Politically conservative in eastern Oregon Eugene and Portland are "Berkley Northwest" Portland has good cultural venues but nothing like SF or NY Tatooes Piercings Alternative lifestyle friendly Snow, Desert, Rain, Oceans and Mountains Snow Skiiing Fishing Salmon/Steelhead Elk Hunting Hiking/Backpacking Mountain climbing Rock climbing Camping 50% humidity More rivers then lakes Adequate racing and automotive business's and venues One big dragstrip One big road race track Great Datsun/Nissan following Few churches No sales tax! Gas is pumped by the attendant 92 Octane gas Some E85 65mph max speed limit State and property taxes Decent restaurants Coffee everywhere Sand dunes ATV's Tanning is big business Beer/wine in supermarkets Acclaimed hospitals One Pro sports team Minor league hockey Ranked college football Good zoo Traffic! I'm sure there are more but that's all I have time for. Maybe other people would like to start their own list...
Soundmasterg
If you can afford it, the suburbs of Portland are quite good....i.e. Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tualatin, Lake Oswego, Milwaukee etc. The commute from some of these into Portland can be annoyingly slow however. If you want to live in Portland proper, then some areas of N and SE Portland are good, and SW, NW are going to be better of course, but cost more. hughdogz
Looking to rent a house. How's the Milwaukie area? Thanks. Dude! Move out here already... Milwaukie is great...nice old suburb. I have met some really cool friends out that way, and nothing is really more than ~20 minutes away in Portland on the freeways (unless it is rush hour, and then it could be two hours some days...) Hope to hear from you again soon 24OZ'er Later, -hughdogz
Soundmasterg
There are some areas in Milwaukee that are kind of run down, but other areas that are really nice and well to do. Overall its a good place. As Hugh said, it is close to downtown, and has good access to freeways. Its close to Hugh and quite a few other Z club guys too. Twentyfourouncer
Made it! Lovin' it! People are soooo much friendlier here than Vegas. When's the next Z-club meeting? I need to have a z-parts garage sale too, way too much stuff to be carrying around ever again.

Twentyfourouncer
wouldnt happen to have a 75-76 gas tank would you? lol Not that isn't being used. I've got a good condition 260z tank already pulled if you want to try and modify one (thats out of a car already) for fuel injection. I would let it go cheaply.
