Jer260Z
My dad bought his first Z in 1971. 20 minutes later, I was getting my first lesson on repairing rust spots! Show us your best (and worst)! Here is my current situation....

rturbo 930
Oh boy, do I have a show for you... Notice the rust in the seam between the wheel well and that inner quarter panel - whatever you call it: Not a Z but still rusty...
atomflatz
Oh man.....and I thought I had it bad.
rturbo 930
Oh man.....and I thought I had it bad. I didn't even show the bad body work (in detail) - just the rust. Sickening isn't it?
Jer260Z
man!... That looks familiar!
rturbo 930
By the way, there is a thread on this subject already - http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=124874
Jer260Z
sorry.... didn't see that thread.
atomflatz
Yes, sickening is a good way to describe it. Horrifying works as well. The word scrap also comes to mind. I guess that is what the life in the northeast does to old cars.
blue72
That's an old thread, so I'll post here. This is the worst of the rust on my Z. I got lucky buying the car while I still lived in Arizona. Here is what I cut out. You can see a smaller patch piece already installed where rust had eaten the inner dogleg, and the compound curve recreated with part of an old army ammo box. ... and here is the patch panel beside the old rotted piece. I made sure to apply plenty of POR-15 behind to stop this from happening again. You can thank Wal-Mart photo developing for the giant shadows on the photos. Austin240Z
this thread makes me feel a lot better about my rusty
cygnusx1
Mine was mostly repaired before the dawn of the digital camera age...but here is some recent fools gold I found. I cut out the bad metal, coated it with POR15 and riveted on the plate with a sealant behind it. This aluminum plate should keep it back for a while. JSM
I didn't even show the bad body work (in detail) - just the rust. Sickening isn't it? Your not really going to fix that Z are you? Wow!
91_4x4runner
I feel alot better about mine now... There's alot of surface rust on the bottom and both rocker panels, rear fenders and front lower fenders are completely shot on the inside... rturbo 930
Your not really going to fix that Z are you? Wow!I don't really have my hopes up but I'm going to try just because I can. Obviously, scrapping it would be the better option financially. Besides, I kind of want a tube car. We'll see. It'll be quite a while before I even start on it. Kanzen
Here is the best/worst of my rust...whatever you want to call it Holy christ, I literally feel ill looking at that photo...christ. From what I can tell, rust on my Z isnt TOO bad in comparison to most cases Ive seen, just usual hatch, skirts and a little fender rust...though Ive yet to take panel work off to reveal what "lurks beneath the surface". atomflatz
Lol...I don't think it's that bad but it will be a chore to get it all cleaned up. I am taking my time with it and treating it as a learning experience. The post after mine really put it in perspective, those are the pictures that make me feel ill.
