auxilary
after today, I can safely say that I will never ever own a 4th gen f-body. What the f was GM thinking when they put it together? Took the entire day to pull the damn motor, so many clips and wires, so much wedged in stuff. Started at 10:30, wrapped up by 8pm. I should've bought a ready-pulled motor. I wound up having to cut Alternator wires because I couldn't get to it without taking the Alt off (which is near impossible while engine is in the car). Wound up simply cutting the clutch/brake lines because of time consumption.
bodie
man you donig it the hard way. if you had a lift itd take you half as long. hell i can drop one in less than 2 hours. but speaking of the hard way i knew a guy who took the heads off to take the motor out the top, now that really was the hard way oh and next time take the harness and ecm out with the motor, there only one connector (i belive it to be blue)behind the glove box that you have to feed through the fire wall. Titus_RacerX
Try pulling the motor from a 6-cyl Fiero! Same damn bitch!
deja
LOL, I was fortunate that my Z28 was wrecked. The windshield was trashed so we cut out the cowl and pulled it out the top. The wiring wasn't really an issue, but I have a LT1 so it could be totally different. But I too had a few choice words for the GM engineers on how the F-body cars come apart. Certainly designed for manufacturability, not for servicing.
randy 77zt
fords are harder to work on -i am really glad i am no longer a dealer tech.imagine doing that job on gm flat rate warrenty time-you would have been working half the day for free. Matt 78Z
Fords are harder? Are you kidding? The entire reason I didn't buy a camaro when shopping around for a car, not a donor, was the setup. Even though the camaro is faster stock, I have to be able to work on my own cars. Having an engine more than halfway under the windshield is horrible to work on. I can do anything to the 5.0 in my 95 stang without having to contort and break my back, it's all right there. I know the modulars are more cramped but I've never had a hard time on the stangs. I have turned down jobs on camaro's because they are such a pain. I'm not meaning to compare motor to motor at all. I'm sure some Fords are hard to work on but those f-bodies are ruff.
