I have an N95 all my friends have iphones ooo lady da da we argue about it all the time just cause I guess. Personally I think the n95 Nokia is a way better phone (technical aspects). But now I been seeing allot of cool software for the iphone for example this one by innovate.

Benefits:

The Innovate Motorsports’ OT-2 “OpenTune†interface provides a link between any late-model cars or trucks and an Apple TM iPhone TM or iPod Touch TM. The OpenTune interface allows high-quality data display, logging, and analysis from any vehicle made since 1996, and integrates with Innovate air/fuel meters and other modular tuning components. The LogWorks Mobile TM software, available from the Apple TM online app store, is a full-function performance meter, even without the option OT-2 OBD-II interface.

Car computers these days are connected to hundreds of sophisticated sensors. The OT-2 allows you to “open†any car’s computer, and directly see what these sensors are measuring. Users can select multiple channels from hundreds of available parameters, and log the data up to 12 times per second. Users can also record many conditions, states, and codes as “status†channels, and reset check engine lights and other trouble codes.

Yeah I agree....Nokia way better tech specs than the Iphone. My 5800 is awesome. Softopz, look up RaceChrono for the S60 operating systems on the Nokias. It is really cool software. GPS based track layout, lap times, split times, 0-60, 1/4mile.....

http://www.racechrono.com/ I think I'll make a thread about this.

But yes that innovate iphone stuff looks awesome.

........the iPhone has many more developers creating applications for it than any other phone........

I'd be willing to bet that there are more developers (i.e. guy in a basement) for the windows mobile platform by several orders of magnitude - anybody that knows even a bit of c#, JAVA or VB, can call themselves a windows phone developer, simply by recompiling existing software for mobile, and tweaking it for screen size.

If you can find a piece of useful software out there for the iWhatever, 10:1 says somebody made it for windows mobile first, and their version is probably free.

Dave Ill check that out , I been wanting to do some 1/4 mile testing SICK! never heard of it. Finally Nokia is got something to keep up with the I-Friends. And now I see you got A phone car? or mobilecar.... carphone? What are they going to name it cause we got carpc lol Dave I also seen what you did with your nokia and multimedia setup NICEEEE. (I bet this post made you re think about the nokia :P)

Ya mr bigbutt I agree it doesnt matter anymore, the i-phone simply has become a huge fashion statement just like I-pods I this I that.... anyways. It simply comes down to more software from a variety range of merchants.

JSM no problem its really cool I had to post it> Iam in the market for a wideband was shopping around and saw it on the website didnt see anything like that so far. I still cant believe it through the phone you can start getting all the cars diagnostics coolant , MAP , o2 readings, timing, and log too!!!via OB2 controller that sends WI Fi signal to phone damn ! granted its not for us datsuns. LETS ALL SWITCH TO Z32 ECUS ! But most cars after 93 OB2 . Especially the part about reading CHECK codes and reseting them trey cool.

Most phones now have GPS blue tooth, storage devices, music players, video players, infared, WIFI, High mega pixel cameras, video outputs ! its nuts I plan on putting a 7" touch screen in the car which will connect through my laptop... which is also hooked to my MS2 and Ill have everything I want. IOld car but more like an xbox on wheels.....

Or, as this post suggests you can cut the pc out of the picture; put a phone and hook it up to touchscreen(cause they got video outputs). You can play music through either one of those or put your GPS on hell you got hands free too! Just when I was going to throw a computer in a car now its moved on to phones!! My post wasnt specifically aimed at nokia vs apple or anything Just saying how cool technology is mixed up. Computers have gone in our cars in our homes, controlling vice versa now through our phones * you guys probally think Iam an old fart I am only 26 I consider myself somewhat tech savy but it even then its hard to keep up. wow im ranting I ll shut up and get back to porting the head.

This has been in production since before the iphone existed..

and palm too!

Val

Sharing other phone based OBD-II scanner/diagnostic tools and the like per the topic of this thread is encouraged, similar to the laptop/palm example you shared above.

But this;

I'd be willing to bet that there are more developers (i.e. guy in a basement) for the windows mobile platform by several orders of magnitude - anybody that knows even a bit of c#, JAVA or VB, can call themselves a windows phone developer, simply by recompiling existing software for mobile, and tweaking it for screen size.

... This post screams of iPhone cynicism. If your post is not just a jaded "iPhone sucks" post, then please show us these "Windows" phones and the several orders of magnitude of apps available for them? Otherwise, that sort of comment helps no one and should not be posted. :toetap05:

By the way, the majority of iPhone apps are written by guys in the basement, the code is no secret.

For the record, I am on my second iPhone, wife is still on her first, it is definitely a love hate relationship for sure. Great toy, some very cool innovative useful apps, lousy phone! That's my personal opinion.

Looking forward to the release of Innovates OT-2.

I've always been a Blackberry fan. And love the e-mail/phone capabilities of my Curve. I also know that Microsoft has payed a lot of bills over the years. Since i'm in IT. But i'm getting tired of seeing my friends brag about their little iPhone apps! I'm jealous now!! I bought my daughter an iTouch Ipod and was playing with it and definately see why so many people have them. I installed a free trail app of Pocket Dyno and tested it in my Z. It was pretty close to what it actually ran in the 1/4 mile.

Then my daughter took it away from me, deleted the app, and put a password on it!! Now I want an iPhone!!

Stony Glad it worked for ya! cool technology eh :P just like the stuff in this thread.

Braap like I said my post was not to start a i phone sucks or nokia thing it may have come off that way. As stated earlier I am a die hard Nokia fan but showing you i-phones users are getting the better end of the stick in terms of software development, especially if you look at how long its been out. Truth be told nokia and windows mobile OS have been around longer but seeing how fast the i-phone software outis quite astonishing. Of course due mostly to the magnitude of people i phone users. But Its cool that the post did change like Valmont adding the links other phone users and PC scan tools.

I downloaded the autoenteguity scan program which is available in the download section of their website. Soon as I launced it looking for a comport so maybe I can try to fool these people and get a scanner/logging tool cheap. The website list the wire and software for $250 this only does powertrain sensors. And they sell you expansion packs $150 for specific make that will do further testing ie ABS< systems testing, gaugeclusters etc. Iam going to buy the Ob2 to USb converter which $110 off http://www.obd2allinone.com/ (check out there other stuff like mefi tune) and launch it with the autoentguity program. Which is most likely going to tell me to activate and purchase soon as you try to do anything heheh. Iam not worried though cause on the ob2allinone site they list more automotive scan tools that are free PC and MOBILE based you guys thought I was really going to spend 100 without having a plan B.

I keep you guys updated!

Sir big butt I did some more digging after cygnusx told me about racechrono which also does laptimes(most track maps available), roll acceleration pulls, 0-60 and more. I havent tested it yet but it looks like it picks up signal from the GPS I can see some unnaccuracy brewing up. What does pocket dyno utilize? Cause I found other programs for Nokia phones that use the accelerometer sensor. Those programs also tell you how much G your pulling! I know the I phone has that sensor too its used for the flip screen when you rotate the phone sideway. Neat lil info the Nokia N95 has an accelometer but from the factory that sensor is only used for the camera when taking pictures or videos it will rotate it for you how the phone was positioned. Like this video

(my car turn it up!) not bad for a phone eh? Ofcourse, some guy had to make a rotate screen program too haha.

PocketDyno uses the accelerometer to measure 60', 1/8, and 1/4 mile times with trap speeds. Also will give you a rear wheel horsepower if you pay for the real version and input your vehicle and weight. Its very similar to Dynolicious. Another iPhone app. There are also some that use both the accelerometer and GSP to give you the same data. I'm sure that this app is not 100% accurate and you can definately find better apps.

But for a free download, I had plenty of fun with the PocketDyno and would use it to help me with future upgrades to see if it makes a difference.

By no means was my post intended to be an "iphone sucks" post, although I could see how that conclusion would be drawn. However, I bought my wife an iphone, and recently convinced my mom to buy one for herself, my dad and sister for Christmas.

I'll be the first to say, that good ol' Steve Jobs did not allow a less then perfect device to be put on the market, with an easy to use, intuitive interface, a web browser that dominated all others (at the time).

However, coming across posts titled in such a way to make iphones sound like they turn SMS into wine grates me a bit - iPhones dominate the market because they can appeal to the majority, but not because they're necessarily the best.

....If your post is not just a jaded "iPhone sucks" post, then please show us these "Windows" phones and the several orders of magnitude of apps available for them? ....

Before I get into this, I'd like to post something useful (I hadn't noticed when i first posted that this was in the blowers subforum - i made the obviously bad assumption that i was responding in a non-tech forum, otherwise I would have avoided sparking debate, or hijacking the thread):

iPhone

PalmOS

Blackberry

Pocket PC/Windows Phones

Java based - will work with almost all phones

So, I hope someone downloads and tries out some of the free software, or in some cases purchase the packages (a lot of these are bundled either with a proprietary cable, or with a bluetooth xmitter of some kind).

If you're not interested in my mobile soapbox please read no further,:beatdeadh otherwise back to...

....If your post is not just a jaded "iPhone sucks" post, then please show us these "Windows" phones and the several orders of magnitude of apps available for them? ....

Like I said before, it's not a hatred for the iphone, but a dislike for the way apple does business, and the mindset that some people have towards them i.e. "iPhone users get it all".

The reason I say that there must be so many more, is not based merely in any kind of affinity towards Microsoft - it's based on the fact that the current incarnation of windows mobile (6.5 as of the release of the HTC Pure and HTC Tilt 2 on the AT&T Network), is based on OS's that have been around since 1994 in the Windows CE era. Many programs written on platforms as far back as the late ninety's are 100% compatible with any windows phone, from any of the major carriers that you could buy today.

So, where iphone users have available to them 20 some thousand apps from the app store at itunes, ranging from promising software like rev (mentioned above) to apps that make you sound like T-Pain (

), windows phone users (and others) have available to them a decade worth of software; apps that never made it out of beta, apps produced by the wireless carriers, apps produced by the phone manufacturers, and even apps produced by the iphone app makers.

The iPhone must be 'jail broken' to make use of any app not approved by apple.

As for the 'windows phones' simply check out http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/devices/devices.mspx for the latest available (there have been hundreds of incarnations), and pick your screen size, whether or not you want onboard GPS, or a touchscreen, or a sliding keyboard, or a 5 MP camera, or no camera at all?

After that, head over to:

to get you started with software.

Hope I didn't scare anybody off of this thread - I promote this tech fully, planning both on running a PC and a mobile device (of some kind, not sure which one yet) as permanent installations in my Z.

You may ask why a "mobile" device for "permanent" install, and to that I say built in interfaceable GPS, intuitive touchscreens, and both the iPhone and winmo phones have a mobile version of google earth (iPhone stomps the winmo however). Active GPRS connection, meaning internet on the go, and onstar like tracking ability.

If you haven't considered it yet, you should.

Shoot I used mine for a speedo for a couple of weeks while I was having electrical problems.

Either way, didn't mean to make an uncomfortable thread.
