logan1
Could you guys please look at the craigslist ad below and tell me it $3500 is a good deal for this LS1? http://tulsa.craigslist.org/pts/1581230327.html
badjuju
I wouldn't drop that much money on something I couldn't see run first. More importantly, though, you can't verify the mileage on the motor or tranny. Chances are everything is fine, but with the number of z parts I have laying around, I could put together a scrap tranny, scrap motor with decent enough compression to sell, and probably could find an ecu that I had to replace at one point, doll them up a bit and sell them as a rear clip. Probably just some guy selling his camaro that got rear ended though. $3500 is a little steep to begin with, depending on what he means by "accessories". Administrators BRAAP Posted February 1, 2010 Administrators Share Posted February 1, 2010 (edited) How hard was it hit in the back? If hit hard enough to affect the rear axle or tear the motor/trans mounts, the driveshaft could’ve bottomed out in the trans damaging the trans internally. Most likely the engine is still OK, so long as it was maintained throughout its life, i.e. oil changes with decent oil at reasonable intervals, quality fuel used, etc... [/quote'] My guess is that the case would be damaged long before the internals. If true, it should be easy enough to spot.
logan1
Thanx for the advice guys. I'll go ahead and pass on this motor. Just for my reference what is a good price base line price for a LS1 or LS2 and a T56.
blueshark123
If you're going to buy a pull out I would only buy it if you could see it run and ideally drive if the car wasn't smacked up too hard.
Negligence
For a little extra or around that price, you could get a full salvage car, that still starts up etc, that way you can verify the mileage, the fact it starts, and have a ton of stuff to sell to get your money back on.
