upbeatppl
I just bought a clear distributor cap i was told that this is one of the rarest distributor cap available? He told me that it's from the Datsun dealer back in the day. Does anyone have any info on the distributor cap?
Josh280z
That's Cool, I can't say if it is rare or not. It is definitely cool though.
johnc
They are currently made by Accel, G-Sport, EMPI, Mr. Gasket, and I think Bosch. They are not rare.
upbeatppl
I've been searching around through lots of manufacture companies, and they don't have any clear distributor cap. from the look of the box i think they're in the mid 80s
clutchdust
Don't know about how rare they are for Datsuns but they've been around for American cars for decades. Pharaohabq
Pretty cool looking cap. If I had it, it might be fun to hook up some LED's w/ big resistors or inductive pickups inside, just for the flashy light idea..
19762802+2
I'm not sure about the cap you have but Clear caps for VW's suck and aren't worth the cool factor. But otherwise interesting find.
MatMan
I have "see through" wires that purportedly enable one to see the electric pulse from the cap to the plug if you want them to go with that cap. boxing + shipping and they are yours! Tony D
It's an aftermarket part--you got took by a lying salesman. They are commonly available and the manufacturer "Dai Ichi" (er... "#1") manufactured them for NGK who also had a set of translucent wires available. In America it may be considered 'rare', but so is a Borgward Station Wagon. It doesn't mean it's worth anything extra, though!
Trevor
J.C. Whitney used to sell them for all cars in the 1970's. Right between shag van interiors and "Blinky" cat turn signal lights. rates pretty well on the lame category.

Do they actually let you see a pulse in the wire? I dont see how that works... on some TV chopper show they used colored florescent bulbs from cap to plug. How much would that be to replace? Might look cool on my Z

AKZX
Do they actually let you see a pulse in the wire? I dont see how that works... Well, it doesn't work. At least not unless there is some other compote that releases energy when and electric current hits it, like neon or argon gas. Even then, I think the whole wire would light up and not a moving pulse.
Josh280z
Maybe it wouldn't be a moving pulse, but if the wires had some kind of gas in them, it would be pretty cool to see them "pulse" with the colors.
