Recommended Posts

ZT-R    17

I have a question about the rear flare. I have the Carbon Fiber MSA ones. The fat part goes towards the front of the car? Looks better the opposite way but then again i cant step back and look at it. Gonna be installing today with a friend, maybe then I can tell but hopefully someone will chime in soon enough.

Ok I just got off the phone with classic Datsun a few minutes ago and to tell you the truth I am disappointed. Even though we discussed making a new set that will be garanteed to fit perfect a couple of weeks ago he told me today he won't do if for a while because he doesn't have a car or the money to invest in a new set. He initially it would take a couple weeks to get a set complete. I need to get a set installed in the next month so i will be installing the set I have from MSA. I will do my best to make them fit correct. Sorry to get your hopes up for a set the fits good.

I finally got Classic Datsun on the phone and he said that he has enough time now to start working on making a new set of molds. He estimated a month out, so probably two realistically. He said to check back in 2 weeks to make sure it's moving along, if nothing has been started by then I suppose I'll pick up an MSA set as well. I'll be sure to update with progress.

I think a new set of molds with better out of the box fitment would be awesome, so worth waiting a bit for. We'll see.

Here is a really annoying but entertaining video on how to do ZG flares. To see the rest of the series just change part 1 to part 2 ect ect. in the you tube search bar. (there are 8 or 9 parts)

He uses body adhesive VS welding the rears. Not sure i would do that.

I'm looking to purchase some regular ZG flares soon and I was wondering where people bought them from? I heard their were complaints about MSA's flares so I was wondering if it was even worth the extra money to go with them when companies such as jdm flares pop up with probably the same quality for a lower price.

Now I'm not trying to be cheap, if you tell me MSA makes a better flare then other companies then so be it. But if they don't and these are basically the same then I'm just gonna give them a try, but I just wanted to be sure.

I just got a set of those in carbon from jdmflares.com and they are ok. I wouldn't call them show quality carbon, but they are very good for the money I think. Now my problem is that I'm not sure how to install them because if I just lay them against the body, they don't seem to fit the fender line in the front very well. Is it normal to have to bow them together to align with the fender ends? Anyone have close up images of where your flares start and end? Perhaps some measurements?

This is where the good quality ZG's come from.

Actually, the 'best' (the closest match to the period factory parts) are made by Marugen Shokai (or 'Marugen Shoukai' if you can't type a macron on the letter 'o', as on HybridZ):

RHD Japan can act as middlemen in sourcing them for you.

You are 100% correct! I forgot to add the RHD link showing them. As you know, there is a large thread here on HybridZ full of members who purchased the Marugen Shokai over fenders, including myself.   :)

hmm seems better to hydro-dip the good fiberglass ones to a carbonfiber look or have them wrapped and leave the shoddy fitting ones alone.

to answer your question, yes some have had to bend them a little to make them fit.

Good to know that some bend is normal. I didn't have to force anything to have it fit, but curious more than anything since I've only worked on my own car and this particular vendor. Thank you for that!!

Is what I have ill fitting in your opinion?

I think hydrodipping is very cool, but I am not a fan of "imitation" materials if I can help it. Black paint would work just fine if I did go the FRP route though.
