  1. once it is that hot - who knows. I bet the piston walls are scored. Broken rings/pistons? So many things COULD be bad - and maybe none. Check that oil carefully for bearing material. Copper is not magnetic - so let it sit for a while and see if anything settles to the bottom - say in a glass jar. I would be suprised, given what you say, that the bearings - all of them - have not been affected. I suspect at this point that starting it will do no harm - but if it is banging away - shut it down!
  2. man is that a s****y trip! Is the oil burnt - still has some lubrication quality to it? I hope so - and be looking for metal frags in the oil once you drain it - use a magnet. a blown head gasket can cause oil/coolant to mix - for sure. However being that low on oil (as you described) sounds more like it was being consumed. Pull the plugs and look at them. It should start with a damaged head gasket - and it may run fine. Watch for bubbles in the coolant, wath that temperature guage! Hope everything is fine
  3. i corned balacned mine recently - 2750 wet. I have some other additions - power steering, diff cooler, etc. and i could have gone lighter on the the cage and engine cradle. The TTT t/c rods add a few pounds! Q
  4. if someone ends up with a basemap for an Rb26 - please post it here. I am looking for one. Q
  5. Thanks RTz - understood. q
  6. I am not sure if I understand the quick tune. Why not just set your timing, and AFR and run in closed loop mode? Especially because you can do that at WOT. I wonder how quick tune will work on the street - without access to a dyno? q
  7. There are some featues on the Vi-PEC I like - a big one is the closed loop WOT. I also like the multidimension maps - this is useful on an RB with throttle bodies IMHO. Using the TPS as well as the MAP, knock sensor and wideband should prove useful. i still experience some serious flat spot issues just with a MAP - if the system also relied on the TPS this problem could be averted. I figure all said and done with the V88, wideband, ingnition and an external MAP - <$3500. We will see how quickly I can tune it. PS - everyone makes mistakes. Having said that if you promote yourself as the best - you should know some fundamentals. Anyone else here EVER see their boost and timing curves "match" rather than be a "mirror" of each other? Q
  8. that would be useful - thanks
  9. Those are Peter Chow's - Alan is quite knowledgeable. I have/use one of his steering wheels. Q
  10. I am getting a quote - seriously looking to swap out my Microtech Lt12S, X6 and wideband. We will see how quickly quick tune works! Q
  11. i am getting ready for paint as well - after the new front spoiler shows up! I have to get the car planted up the back straight at Mosport. Meph - will likely be at Barrie for the autocross this weekend - orange 240Z q
  12. I don't tell ANYONE what it cost - some how my wife may find out! q
  13. Looking for another set of track rims. would take Rotas- if someone is going larger diameter. Not interested in Sportmax. thanks Q
  14. I suspect you are correct - always listening to things carefully after being parked for 4 months.....
  15. I think I may be hearing things but.... I pulled the Z out of storage over the weekend after a long winter. Starting it in the enclosed space and letting it idle I noticed valve train noise - specifically on the intake side. I know the RB26 is a bucket system - I just wonder how much valve train noise would be acceptable. Obviously this is hard to describe in words. I will say I cannot hear the valve train noise from inside the car. It is lightly noticeable when the hood is closed. I will like pull of the valve cover and check on the intake side. Has anyone else here experienced having to adjust the cam clearance? I am running tomei pro cams with tomei springs. Q
  16. This guys shop business is picking up and he wants to finish my car quick!!! that will be a nice change for you! good luck q
  17. you may be referring to the temperature sensor port. It is not open - but threaded.
  18. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=132156 there is a picture in the above thread showing how proud my CP pistons are.
  19. i did/do not have any clearance issues with the cp pistons. 1mm gasket - however in porting the head I removed some material from the pads - but not all of them. Calculated compression is 9:1. Forget what my final chamber cc measurements were.... but the block was scimmed a couple of times as was the head. Q
  20. I would disagree with the expense of these - I bought two for less than the $1000 quote - in Canada. Have used both and they are both working fine with no issues. I believe I know where there are a couple more reasonably priced - around $600 CAD. Q
  21. i was third time lucky on an engine. First one rolled around during shipping, second had a rolled bearing or two. Third was like new from RB Motoring (BNR34).
  22. i use the JGY clutch and flywheel - no problems. I was at 430hp at the wheels before the build - much higher now i suggest.
  23. mine slants the same as well - oil pan level
