  1. Just as mentioned above it all depends on what ya wanna do with the car and what ya want the car to do ..... i had just a plain 350 long block rebuilt for 700 bucks with an auto in it and it worked great fro about a year till i got bored .. ran fine 12.03 at like 115. in the 1/4 mile .. now about 10 grand later i have a built 700r4 and a zz383 crate motor seems to be getting about 20 mpg city and has run an 11.20 at over 125.. so what do ya want it to do and how much ya wanna spend .... thats all ya have to ask yourself
  2. i would not go by that one my car is a stock manual car and it came with a 180 in it with 3.36 gears i still don't see what the problem with the rear end is i am a little over 400 hp on this little so called cheap rear end and 200 passes down the drag strip and nothing wrong yet .. i think most of the problems with it are driver abuse or a manual trans and slicks that won't work well with this rear end .. but hey just my opinion ..lol when it breaks i will upgrade
  3. I have my cage in my car and it is crtified by NHRA to 8.99 and the helmet must be a minimum of 5 inches away from the bar .... they don't care how far away from it ya are ... and any place near the head or helmet of the driver it must be padded...
  4. There is no set answer to this almost all comes down to weight and tuning . lean any motor out will get better fuel mileage. toon it bad use alot of fuel .. i tune with a wide band 02.. car cruises about 14.7 to 15. 0 around town light throttle and on highway .. seems to get about 25 to 27 mpg thats a 77 350 chevy in a 240z.... making 300 or so hp .. have a small turbo motor making 400 hp gets almot 35 mpg.. car is a geo metro and only about 1700 lbs .. weight is the biggest difference .. but ya also have to remember alot of hp tuned right can go the same speed as a less hp car at light throttle .. i have an 800 hp turbo 408 that gets about 17mpg the stock motor in that car never got but 14 to 17 and had 225 hp .. its all just numbers ..lol
  5. no it won't i have 310 at the wheels in a 70 240 all there not stripped and my best is a 12.51 at 109 no stall and drag radials i do not spin . a stall will launch harder thats about all maybe a tenth or os better .. as for the systemax II kit had one just like they said to set up and it made 405 in the car on the dyno but there are better kits if ya wanna go with that or just get a cam kit and intake for your block and pick some good heads and see where you end up
  6. you might also want to check the year of the 700r4 On the passenger side of the transmission, right above the pan gasket, towards the rear, there is a small flat spot with numbers stamped into the case. The first number is the year. If it says 9 it's a 1989. The 1982-1984 are 27 spline. The 1985-up are the 30 spline.
  7. the 700r4 is the same length as the th350 with the long tail housing on it.
  8. Thanks for the info ... did it and no more leak or fluid all over my driveway ..
  9. I have a 70 240z stock rear diff and i noticed a puddle under the back of the car of gear oil ... i don't see any cracks or leaks around the cover and i found it only leaks after i spin the tires in the burn out box at the track .... never seems to leak after normal driving .. has anyone had a prob with the breather on the diff or can i block that off or try some other cap on it ..ps i did make sure it is not over filled
  10. So five grand in 4th gear is only 100mph? what do you have a 23.5 inch tire that is what it would come to and i have 3.36 gears and i am at 103mph at 5000 rpm in 3rd with my 700r4 give or take 50 rpm as for punctuation well mostly girls worry about that or total dorks that type all day long i work on cars not keyboards
  11. hey guys well i was at lacr that would be LOS Angeles County Raceway last sat night in my 240 and some guy came up to me all impressed on how well it was running then went on to tell me he holds the land speed record in his z czr at over 175 mph but i didn't get his name all he said was his was not as quick as mine at the drags and he spun alot and was amazed how well mine hooked with the stock wheels and tires and wanted to know if i have ever taken it all out but i have been to about 5000 in 4th i have no speedo so no clue on how fast i go but doing the math with tire size gears and rpm i was well over 140 i could see with gears and the car slammed to the ground easy 175 mph oh and by the way i ran 12.77 at 106 mph in the 1/4 mile with 195/70/14 tires from pep boys at 21 bucks each i don't see how so many guys have a traction prob i have a hard time getting it to break loose ...
  12. ok so you guys do realize the job at the auto parts store is the best job this person could get right .. that would like complaining that you got the wrong order at mcdonalds.......
  13. Well for the answer on dropping 1 lb of pressure in the downpipe side after the turbo there is no set answer as all turbo and engines are different and it will not make an even drop in pressure on the front side of the turbo i took off 9 lbs on the exhaust side of my 80 mm turbo setup on my 408 and the result was a drop of 19lbs of pressure before the housing and a climb from 8lbs of boost to 21 and needed another waste gate to contol the boost back to 8
  14. well i have not been on here but a couple times i just picked up someones project 1970 240 for 1500 all that was done was the motor and trans mounted a 350 and 700r4 in the car so i got on here got some info and got the rest of the parts i needed spent a total of 800 bucks and that included the registration exhaust dual 2.5 to a 3 inch flowmaster then found out he said he had the motor redone but some retard thinks that new bearrings on a trashed motor is rebuilt so went and got a short block for 475.00 with a 1 year warranty at a local shop and the car with 195/70/14 rear tires from pep boys .. cornell tires that is ran a 12.60 at 109 in palmdale california not bad for the total .. so now i need paint and interior also gonna shove a 9 inch and a cage in it since i have the parts and a welder in the garage i might as well so a total of less than 3000 bucks i have a car that eats hondas and craps out mustangs all day long
  15. well on the carb i have a 650 on my 65 mustang and i was gonna swap them as the mustang is built and can take the carb.. and glad to get the info on the cable from the trans it would have sucked to trash the trans as it was just rebuilt so thanks on that .. and i got a b&m shifter for a 4 speed auto so i will get that on there i tried to fit the radiator in and it is perfect but the fan don't fit it is too thick i think the motor is kinda far forward in this thing as i have about 3 to 4 inches between the fire wall and the distributor so i might move the motor back some this weekend if i can before the driveline gets done this on monday ... or i will just get a thin fan and leave it alone ..
  16. well thanks on the info on the shifter and i kinda wanna use all the gears so i will just get a shifter from jegs or something . as for the carb i have a 650 i was gonna try anyway but i can always jet the 850 down and tune it to my car .. my buddy has an idea for the throttle linkage also i was wondering what to do about the linkage from the trans to the carb for the kickdown all i see is a cable run up from the trans.
  17. Hey all well this is not my first z i have had a 77 280z and an 84 300zx but 4 days ago i purchased a 1970 240 with a 350 in it along with a 700r4 car needs some paint and a little interior but other than that pretty good shape .the car is not finished yet the guy got the motor and trans in and thats about it no radiator in it but he gave me one from a camaro with electric fan no shift linkage so not sure what i am gonna use yet but it does have the shifter in it from an automatic no drive shaft but i have already taken care of that with a local shop and will have that back tuesday and the throttle linkage has yet to be done or exhaust other than that everything else seems to be good the car starts and sounds great i was told the motor is fresh and the tranny also by the looks of them they might be only time will tell .well i hope this car turns out to be fun and a nice little toy but if anyone has any ideas about throttle linkage it has a holly 850 on it that would be a great help and also if it is better to modify the stock shofter to work with the 700r4 or just get a nice aftermarket shifter and i will also be changing the wheels the stock ones just don't seem large enough ... thanks
