  1. congrats! now someone send me one of the carbon hoods while he's gone and can't see which of us did it
  2. I'm pretty sure the R32 GTS-t brakes are the same as USDM Z32 brakes (seeing as I have a set that are about to go onto my 240SX), so the front rotor is 280mmx30mm (unless you meant using the GTS-t caliper on a larger rotor). Piston size is 40.45mm as well, but that's just nit-picking, sorry. I can help though Go to the forums on Freshalloy.com and go to the "Best of 240SX" section, and look for a thread about brake bias by Asad. Great info there, you can use that guideline to calculate your own brake bias (compare to stock) and see what kind of brake torque increases (percentage-wise) you'd get.
  3. I don't know about the old Z cars, but the OEM 240SX shift knob is actually counterweighted as well... I think the idea is to offset the effort needed to move the linkage. (linkage on 240SX and Silvia is internal)
  4. The only RWD CA18s in the US that I know of are the CA18E, CA20E, and CA18ET in the S12, and I'm not even sure about the CA18E FWD engines won't work, usually the block or head is different enough to make it much simpler to just swap a RWD engine (e.g. the case with the SR).
  5. For the ones made about two years ago, yes they are lame. But the stuff SSA has been making (321 stainless, mostly) since about middle of last year is fine, at least as far as 4-banger stuff, I haven't had experience with anything for the I-6s...
  6. he's making one from two KA24DE heads. I don't know about the R432 or the S30 (yet , sounds like I need to look up some stuff), but OS Giken did make a DOHC head for the L-series sixes and for the four-bangers as well... although I would imagine that getting your hands on one of those would be akin to me getting a date with Angelina Jolie
  7. holy crap! that is freaking sweet... when did you get the welding done? I'd be interesting in seeing how it was finally combined... and interested in seeing how much one would run Hahaha, I haven't even gotten my 240SX back together and I'm already getting price generalizations for an L28DET
  8. pictures only confirm the car, not the validity of the story Something is not being told completely...
  9. just a thought... the KA has a dual timing-chain setup so that the cam gears will fit (narrow head, small gears), how would this be worked out if the "KA" 6cyl head was finished for the L-series?
  10. painting a logo or something like that won't really affect the efficiency notably... however if you paint the whole thing it WILL hurt efficiency. The only real way to change the IC's color without hurting efficiency is to anodize it (which actually helps increase thermoconductivity).
  11. hahaha, friend of mine did that in their 240SX project track car
  12. Nice buy, 930s are definately cool machines. Although I like that AE86 better, and this from a diehard Porsche fanatic (boosted ITB 20V!?! dang man... I need a job like that )
  13. Do some donuts. I've laid rubber with both tires with an open diff before, in a straightish line...
  14. I call BS on the story. You can't find a STOCK 240SX for $600 anywhere now. Shoot, I paid $600 for an S13 base model coupe two and a half years ago with a dead KA24DE from a guy who wasn't an enthusiast...
  15. DO NOT BUY FROM FLASHOPTIONS. Scam artists from Malaysia. BAD BAD BAD. I'd stay away from Venus as well, they tend to give the good engines to big-name shops and West-Coasters, everyone else gets a bit of the shaft... Since you're in VA, call Japan Direct in Durham. A friend of mine (Jerry) works there... they are a tad pricier than some places but they rarely get a bad engine and they go out of their way for the customer. I wish I had spent the extra dough and ordered my SR from them instead of getting a Venus engine from another NC shop, I ended up spending more in the long run because I had to buy a replacement longblock
  16. Yeah, that's the thing that stinks about German cars. They're so freaking nice and well-designed (for the most part, hahaha), but parts are a FORTUNE. That's one of the big reasons I went with an SR-swapped 240SX a few years ago instead of just buying my dad's lightly-modded 944 turbo... prices for some stuff is just absurd.
  17. I hate to be the cynic, but we see this type of post all the time on the 240SX boards... He "wants to drift," doesn't seem to know the basics of the swap he's trying to do, hasn't learned to search the Internet and forums, and he doesn't know who "Autometer" is... my guess is former Honda owner who "wants to be different" and reads Super Street...
  18. no way in hell an SR will pass visual in a 240SX either, you can thank CARB and the ricer magazines' hype for that...
  19. watch out for the NCSU administration... if you don't have any problems, you should be fine, but if you ever run into a snag, be prepared to face miles of red tape and competent people only 50% of the time anyway... I understand wanting to keep it Nissan. I say go RB26 over built RB25. But that's just me Let me know if you want any help dropping the L28ET back into the car. P.S. How much did Jarco want for the 1JZ/2JZ clips?
  20. haha, I've confused the crap out of parts-store monkeys numerous times, and all I have is a 240SX so much Nissan interchange parts it's ridiculous... "Alright, I need some Nissan parts..." "OK, what year" "um, ... I need an oil filter for a '92 Sentra SE-R 2-liter, spark plugs for the same but in a different heat range, brake pads for a '92 300ZX, a clutch master cylinder for a '92 240SX, a brake master cylinder for a '92 300ZX but a Nabco, not a Tokico" etc. Guy says "dang, that's quite a fleet" and I respond "it's all for the same car." Guy just goes like this: I got a few: - You remember what R180s and R200s come in which cars with which final drive ratios, but you don't remember to balance your checkbook... - You have a different-year block, head, transmission, and rear end than the year of the chassis... and they're all older than you Am I getting the hang of this place yet?
  21. heck, I'm 22 and that stuff ticks me off. Stupid immature twerps now have access to all sorts of fast stuff that the magazines hype up (especially in the more "well-to-do" areas, where dumbass parents will shell out $25k for a HIGH SCHOOLER to get a modded Evo or SRT-4), and they have neither an appreciation for what the car is nor the skill to control it properly... and in most cases, they also lack the judgment as to when playting around is almost acceptable and when it makes you a flat-out stupid jackass.
  22. I forgot to mention... CA18-equipped JDM S13s came with 4.36:1 R180s, some with VLSD Too many parts at 3:25am for me to remember what my point was going to be...
  23. I'm not that familiar with the L-series engines (yet... hybridZ forums are certainly helping me in that regard ), but the parts list makes me smile Good call on having a water-cooled center section! A lot of people seem to leave that out when upgrading turbos. You actually have a very similar setup to the one I was building in dreamland (for when I sell the S13 for an S30, eventually)
