Just discovered I had an unmatched set. One from a 240 and one from a 280. I have new drilled/slotted rotors coming and will need a 240 (cloverleaf) hub in good condition with good studs. Anybody have a spare in good condition that they could sell? Thanks!

Wheel Show! Post your pics of you wheels

Hey Titus, can you fill me in on where you went to get the mounts from Recaro? I'm getting a set of 1985 BMW 320is seats from a buddy of mine. He bought the car for the Grassroots Motorsports 2007 challenge (actually placed #12 last year and aiming for top three this year!). Just need to figure out how to mount them now!

240 - 280 stock rotor sizes
Horatio replied to Horatio's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Alright, thanks. I bought a set of cross drilled/slotted rotors from a guy on eBay. Got them in and they were way wrong! Smaller diameter, width, and stud diameter. He said they would fit 70 - 73 240Z's and 510's. After talking with him he told me that they must be for 74 + model years. Didn't sound right to me, and ya'll confirmed it for me! Thanks. Now I need to fight this guy for a refund! Wish me luck! -
240 - 280 stock rotor sizes

Ahhh, great thanks! Diameter, width, and stud size/spacing should be the same though, right? -
Rotors for these cars are all the same size, right? What's the differnece in MSA's rotors? They have different model numbers for 70-73 and 74-78?

I've been watching e-bay for the last few weeks. Looks like I have a few options. remeber, It has to be a runner so it can be driven for a little while until it is replaced by another car. Late LT1's go for anywhere from around 4-10 grand. Early LS1's go for around the same (closer to the 10 grand mark!). I've seen lot's of modded stuff on there too that's gone for a REALLY decent price. Check this one out: Item number: 130142278334 and this one: Item number: 320147751288 Looks like i'll just need to keep my eye's open and hope something like these pop up close to home. I think i'll shoot for the early LS1. Pro's/Con's?

Nah, I figured I should shoot for something older with low miles sense it'll be driven for a bit. I want a decent drivetrain to swap into my Z... with as little mileage/wear as possible. Sounds like you're leaning more towards the later model stuff? Really want the manual. Doesn't have to be six. I could live with a five. And... hah, no my wife wouldn't be caught dead in a used cop car!
-
Definitely helps... there's a catch though! It needs to be road worthy for a year or so. My wife and I decided to save a few bucks and sell our newer model car and swap for something a bit cheaper. Sooo, I suggested that we get an older Z28 and she bit!!! After a little while and when things settle down a bit financially we'll get her a new car and I get to use the Z28 for my swap! I thought it was a great compromise and i'm really quite pleased with myself for talking her into it!!!! So, What do you think now. Sorry, just a tiny detail I forgot to mention above! Kinda changes things a bit! Thanks.

Alright ya'll, i've been lurking around for a while and now I have a pretty decent question for ya. I'm getting ready to buy a donor car for my '73 V8 swap. I know I want a SBC because of the incredible ammount of upgrades available, but I am having trouble coming to a decision on what to buy. I know, I know.. research, research.. I've done it all. But, there's just so many pros/cons that I think I may need some help sorting things out. So.... Nat Asp SBC?? - Simpler install - cleaner look - Gotta move the hood latch - Simple wiring/no computers! - Gotta buy an expensive crate engine/trans/etc... or rebuild something LT1 - Less Hp/Tq than a Nat Asp when stock? - no moving hood latch - Reprogramable computer (OBD1 and 2) - Wiring concerns LS1 - More Hp/Tq than the LT1 - Computer reprograming concerns I've come to the realization that I could buy an Z28 (94-96) in great shape with low mileage for a bit more (a few grand) than what a pull-out would cost. I could recoupe a decent amount of the difference by parting the thing out as long as it's in decent condition. I'm looking for 300+ Hp and a 6-speed trans. With that in mind i'm looking at a later model Z28 (1997-2003). With this though i've read that reprogramming becomes an issue. However, I'd prefer to use the JCI LS1 engine mounts than the JTR Lt1 setup. It just seems to be engineered better. If I go with the LT1 then i'm looking at (again from what i've read) either a 95/96 Z28 because it has an upgraded optispark that won't give out as easily as the earlier models. Also, should I bother with the SS in either of these engine models?? This is pretty much a intake/body/suspension upgrade, right? Not really anything i'd be transfering over anyways? Aggghh, so many things to condsider. So, if you were going to buy a donar and wanted to spend.... let's say less than $8000, what would you get? Thanks for your help.

Man, that's not bad at all! I just found out about this stuff today. you think you could post some more pictures and details about laying it down/prep work. I'd be really interested to see photos with the wet sanding and a clear coat or two as well. Can you enligten me on how many cans of that stuff you had to buy? Thanks man! Great job!

Saw these on Two guys Garage this morning. Thought ya'll might be interested. Apparently they have the same flow as tubular headers. They say they have the dyno runs to prove it. Fit tight to the block like the OEM ones too. They come in polished and unpolished stainless. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/5425,281_SandB-Chevy-Stainless-Tru-Ram-Exhaust-Manifolds.html Anyone ever used them?

I recently had to let Jack go. He had developed a nsaty case of bone cancer. He made me laugh for 12 years. Enjoy them while they're around folks.... they're like our kids but unfortunately they can't outlive us.

I've e-mailed the guy a couple times but he's not responded. That Euro bumper went for $167. Great deal!
-
Yeah, I e-mailed him about some parts but never got a response. let me know if you hear from him.

Check out this ebay item #. 300137979691 Real nice condition, low mileage 70 240Z being parted out in Ohio! It has lot's of real nice parts on it. Euro front bumper, roll bar, and a pretty darn clean interior. Just though i'd share for those who may not have seen it.

Anyone want to trade wheels?
Horatio replied to Horatio's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I don't have center caps for the 5-slot mags but do for the snow flake wheels. They'll just need some cleaning up (re-chrome/paint) as well. -
Hey all, I have two sets of OEM Z wheels, neither of which I like. I would like to have a set like these: I have one set off my 73 240Z (5 slot aluminum mags) and a set off my 77 280Z (I call them snow flake wheels). Both are in nice condition with minor curb rash and just need a bit of polishing. I'm willing to make an even trade for a pair like those above in similar condition. You can choose which ever of the two sets I have. I can e-mail pictures if anyone wants to see them. E-mail me at keflint@gmail.com if you're interested. Thanks.

Figured it out... thanks!

I'm getting ready to order a set of Konig Rewinds. I know, I know... why am I worried about wheels now? Cause i'm getting a pretty sweet deal that's why! Anyways, I need to be sure that I should be ordering Zero Offset wheels.

Yeah, she's a little rougher than picture leads you to believe! I've got a bunch of parking lot dings down both sides and the hood is pretty banged up as well. Nice thing is that she's got very little rust. Just a bit at the bottom of one of the rear wheel wells. Nothing that should be to hard to fix though. Best of luck to you!

Thumper, Thanks for the fine welcome and the links. I do love the N/A idea because of it's "simplicity" (ooh, I might get burned for that one). I have great respect for those that pull high horses out of a N/A 6cyl engine. I however just don't have that kinda cash laying around. My plans thus far are as follows: 1A- Research, research, and a bit more research!!! 1B - Move into my new house and set up my new big 2 car garage for my Z. 2 - Tear down the 240 to nothing and rebuild 3 - Sell what I don't need off of the 240 and raise money for the Turbo engine and components. (I'll be working on the body/susp/interior while I do this) 4 - Rebuild/build the turbo setup - not sure yet if i'm gonna buy a donor car or just put it together piece by piece. I know it makes more sense to buy a donor but i'm not sure i'll have enough to cover a large purchase all at once. I will definitely be keeping my eye out though! #3 actually brings up a good question. What do I need to keep off of my 1973 240Z that can be used in a turbo swap? (besides the obvious). Thanks again!
-
Mikelly, Thanks for the invite. Fredericksburg huh? Your right up the road! I'm in Richmond. As long as I can get the 240 running well enough to battle I95 I will definitely come and leach as much turbo hybrid info that I can from you!!! I have a couple nasty problems to deal with before I can get on the road. I've got a couple snapped exhaust studs which are obviously causing me some troubles. keep me informed and we'll see where things are when your BBQ comes around. Might just have to drive up there in my daily driver anyways just to say hello! You all could ooh and ahh over my 1996 Saturn SC1. I could indulge you in the intricacies of plastic cars!!! Thanks again, and take care!

Ahh, that's exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for the reply and the link!

I've been doing most of my questioning/searching on ZCAR.com for the past couple of months. I recently bought a 1973 240Z in pretty good shape. Less than 100,000 miles and with little rust. I'm on the east coast (virginia) and apparently it's pretty hard to find one in good condition over here! I'm planing a resto/mod in the very near future. I'll be starting tear down in a few months and i'm looking for a few opinions on which way to go with the drivetrain. I'm starting to lean towards a turbo rather than building an expensive and less powerful stroker (at least as i've been reading). I really like the idea of a N/A powerhouse, but a cheaper more powerful engine is just to darn appealing to pass up! Where can I go to get a good run down on all of my options for the turbo swap? I could search this site but honestly I really would not know where to start! Here's a pciture of what i've got to work with: Thanks!
