  1. i just recently replaced my 280zx distributor with the e12-80 module for a remanufactured unit. I still have my e12-80 but im running the new distributor with the module it came with. Now, ever since i reinstalled the new dizzy, i have been having problems similar to a revlimiter. It wont rev past 4.5-5K... i have already replaced the distributor cap, rotor, wires, and plugs and am still geting the same results. Static timing is at 18 degrees and 35 degrees total timing. My question is, is the new module on my new dizzy a remanufactured e12-80? Would something like this cause my sputter on top end?

i have a chevy alternator powered by my L6 and it doesnt turn on until above 2.5 rpms... then after that the alternator charges when im on throttle. You may have an issue where the alternator isnt fully charging the battery.
  3. i dont have that much of a problem at night... then again i live in socal:mrgreen:
  4. Have you checked your oil return line? Perhaps there might be a kink somewhere and is causing the flow back to the oil pan to just settle in the line.
  5. lets see some pictures:mrgreen:... im a visual person and would like to see how this was done. Thanks
  6. try doing a complete tune up on the car (i.e spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil filter, oil...etc)
  7. as you can see on my dyno chart, power drops significantly after 5500. I am running an l28 on su carbs. My A/F is constant until 5000 then it starts to run extremely rich which led to the drop in power. With a better cam i can see this motor running 6500-7 no problem.
  8. was that dyno on a dynopak? i was dynoed on a dynojet and everything has been corrected to show my exact power i would be making on the road. By that chart it looks to be flywheel power.
  9. the shop i went to was JDM Concepts here in Oceanside, CA i only had base runs made so there was no tuning involved. They just got the dyno in the shop so for base dyno runs it will go for $60 for 3 runs. We know there are other shops who can do it for cheaper BUT, since they just got the dyno they're trying to pay back the cost as quick as possible to justify the dyno machine.
  10. yeah you could really tell that the stock cam was definitely not designed for top performance at all stock. Its a F54 block with a P79 head. Compression ratio is 8.8:1 and the block has 65,000 miles. The head was freshly rebuilt a month ago. I know what you mean about NA dyno charts. Hardly anyone on this site nor classiczcars.com have any dynos posted. I will continue to get dyno runs after each upgrade from now on. Thanks for the replys guys.
  11. Hey guys, i took my Z over to JDM concepts here in Oside. Gabe and Omar hooked it up big time for me, especially with whats to come ....Well this is basically a stock 280zx motor in a 240z. My other motor is in the works and so this is my Daily driver motor for now . -1972 Datsun 240z -280zx 2.8L OHC "stock" -34 total degrees timing after 2500 -MSA Header 6-1, Fidanza Aluminum flywheel, Spec stage 2 clutch, SU carbs "stock", R200 4:11 126hp @ 4800 153tq @ 3700 I plan to use one of my spare cams to get a regrind for this stock head to mirror off my power band. A .460 lift / 270/280 cam should move my powerband a bit higher and make it more useful. I do realize this is an "okay " cam, i plan to use my ISKY cam on my N42 head or sell it and have a .515/300 cam ground.
  12. so you finally got it together eh... you owe me a ride in that thing...
  13. perhaps you have air bubbles in your coolant system. Idle the engine with the radiator cap off, and pump the hoses of any air.
  14. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what if i just transfered my valvetrain from the N42 head to the P79? Would i still need to shim up valvesprings?
  15. when shaving the p-79 head to .080", do you need to shim the valve springs as well? on the zgarage website it says to do so but i havent heard of anyone actually doing it on this site.
  16. has anyone tried reusing their stock rockers with a regound cam? Im looking to have my cam reground and was wondering if my rockers would damage its lobes.
  17. Hey guys, recently my N42 cam and camtowers took a dump. The cam is now trashed, same with the cam towers. I have a spare P79 head lying around and i plan on installing the rockers, cam, and camtowers onto the N42 head. My question is, will the stock (F) cam from the P79 create a problem with running the N42 head on an F54 block? I heard that with this high compression setup (10.5:1) i should use a performance cam to relieve cylinder pressure and prevent pinging. Would i be okay if i used the stock cam and retard the timing?
  18. your compression would be in the 7's i believe...
  19. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=3544&cat=500&page=1 there yah go i have it bookmarked
