I searched and everybody seems to be in agreement that thr 95 LT1 was the best because of the vented Optispark and the OBD1. I know the 93 LT1 was Speed Density instead of MAF and Mult-port instead of Sequential. Is there any reason to not to buy this engine? I went to speeddensity.org and they say there is no difference performance or mileage wise as far as the injection goes and actually claim their cars are faster with the Speed density VS MAF? Of course the site is probably bias towards the 93 anyway. If you could get a complete 93 LT1/T56 Camaro for$1500 that needs a head gasket possibly on a 40K rebuild VS a 95 LT1/T56 with 80K with new head job but spun bearing (s) (low end knock) left antifreeze in the oil pan for a month when the headgasket blew, had the heads re-done and re-installed only to spin the bearing (s) 4 days later. for $2200 Getting desperate to find a motor and trans! tfree85, I had forgot about this post, I have ton's of Z pictures that change randomly for my desktop screen while working but do not know how to make them into a screen saver. I have the latest OSX release and run a G5 iMac and a 933 G4 Quicksilver. I just thought it would be cool to show off all the Z cars on my screen when I wasn't there as well. I would love the instructions. Thanks, Greg

76 280Z wiring preparation & documentation
gvincent posted a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I searched and found this thread in the L6 forum http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=111179 I posted some questions and pictures to this thread but figured my questions are probably going to be better answered in the Chevy V8Z forum. I am just starting to prepare my 76 280Z for the SBC engine swap and wanted to get my wiring in order as I went along. I just pulled out the FI harness and am not sure what connections to the ignition plug I need to re-wire. The pictures I posted in the thread show the plug connectors and I listed all the wire info that I could find in my crappy Haynes and Chilton manuals. Terry Steenhagen was nice enough to offer to send me a CD of the shop manual but it is not here yet so I have to use what I have for now. With the FI relays now also out of the picture will my fuel pump still work or do I need to rewire that as well? I am going to start un-taping the wiring harness on the passenger side this weekend and pull out what is not needed there as well so I am sure I will have more questions to add to this thread. I will post pictures as I go along so maybe other people can use them as well. I will draw up the wiring once it is all figured out and post it as well. Oh, I am still looking for a motor, it will be an LT1, or old school 383 stroker or 400SBC so right now I am keeping worst case scenario wiring wise so I am guessing the LT1. I have been posting pics as I go in my Gallery and Project car forum. Thanks, Greg -
Why are all the good deals out west??? I'm looking for a T56/LT1 383 stroker, or 400SBC combo and have never seen any deals like that in the Northeast! Hoping someday, the sooner the better. Greg

Here are the pics, the first three pictures shows the Ignition connector from various angles. The White/Red wire mated to the Blue #73 wire from the FI harness The Black/Yellow wire mated to the White #76 wire from the FI harness The Black/White wire mated to the White #71 wire from the FI harness The Blue/Green wire mated to the Blue #74 wire from the FI harness The 4th and 5th picture show the single connector from the FI harness with the White #1 wire mating to a Blue wire. My 78 and 77 wiring diagrams don't match these colors up, I can't read the 76 diagram too well as it is too small. The 280Z is a 76 model. I got a feeling I am going to need to make some connectins to these two plugs but can't tell what is what. I don't need the FI relays anymore correct? What I can tell is that the Black/White wire was + power to one of the relay coils? the other ones I am not sure, do I need to run power from the battery to these conectors? I suppose I can re-hook the battery up and see if I have any voltage present. Do I need to run a wire to the fuel pump now that the FI relay is gone?

Removing the FI harness, Yes proved my Pre-School teacher wrong again. I was able to stuff square objects through a round hole! Now to search and try to start to figure out this wiring stuff!! Radiator, hoses next! -

I was under the impression that the Datsun FI harness (Drivers side harness from ECU/Relay, Resistors, engine, injectors, coil, and lines to battery and fuseable links) and ECU were not needed for a swap. See:http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=111179 I am sure I need to run some additional wires to where it plugged into the ignition harness under the drivers side dash, and figure out how to make the fuel pump relay work. I will post my pics later today. Greg -
Well I did have to slice the tape down by the FI relay connectors because I couldn't feed them through the hole intact. Once I sliced about 6" of tape off and seperated the two relay plugs I was able to feed them through the hole one at a time and everything pulled through easily. My questions on the Ignition plug still stand if anybody knows. I will post some more pics and more details on the wiring including wire #'s later today whe I get a chance. I didn't realize that the power feed from the battery through the fuseable links to the ECU ran through this harness as well. What starts out as 2 large red wires for Battery + and - become a big splice within the harness to smaller gauge blue wires feeding the ECU and the FI relays. I am sure I am going to have to run new wires from the Ignition plug to the battery and figure out what and where I connect the fuel pump relay to, which I am assuming at this time is under the passenger seat? Thanks, Greg

Jon, No Oak Park did not exist, In fact Agoura high was only 4 or 5 years old when I was there. It was the only high school for all of Las Virginnes County, Bussed kids from as far as Liberty Canyon in Woodland Hills, Hidden Hills, Malibu Lake, Calabasas, Lake Lindero etc. in fact everything up to the county line/Westlake Blvd. My best frien was a guy named Jon Kern, his dad was the Senior Film editor/Producer for paramount studios and did the Odd Couple, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley etc. We would sneak his fathers 65 Corvette out and run it through the canyons. We both had speed runs from the Agoura HS parking lot to Zuma beach #7 in 17 minutes flat!, I had a 68 Camaro SS 396 lowered with 14" in the rear and 12" in the front, The motor was built by Ed Pink in Van Nuys (Pink Elephant Heads) Offy Hi rise, Twin 750DP etc. We would race all the TO guys on Lindero road and on Weds night head down to the Valley and cruise Van Nuys Blvd and hook up and race behind Westinghouse for $30 or just for fun, My friend had a 67 6 cylinder body Nova with a high screaming 327 that was a real sleeper until you looked inside and it was all aluminum and tubbed wicked light. My girl friend at the time was Susan Webb, her brother was Jimmy Webb the song writter and performer, he had a Real 427 AC Cobra in pearl white, I used to meet him on PCH up near county line after coming out of Decker canyon early at sunrise and we would run PCH together at some real scary speeds in and out of the lifting fog! it was crazy! Yeah Decker was my favorite too, lock to lock some of those turns, 1000' ft drop, exciting! Encinal you could go faster and drift through the turns much faster and smoother though, Decker made you work it hard. Parents divorced and sold the custom house on the Island around 1980, My family is still out there and I will be attending the 35th reunion this year! Lots of stories, Lots of fun!
