back in the day when my step dad was a kid he and a buddy of his had a bet, who could build the fastest 1/4 mile car for $XXXX, I think it was a grand. My step dad and his buddy were die hard mopar fans but my dad new to get the edge he would need to switch over to chevy to get the advantage of price and parts availability. Needless to say he won the bet and hasn't looked back since. His drag truck is an 80 chevy pickup, yes, a brick on wheels doin twelves, soon to be in the 11s if my mom lets him

honestly, I am glad you are going with a different color, well, shade anyway. And personally I would have never given out the paint code cause all tho it was something readily available thru gm, it was custom to your application and I would want to keep it that way. By the way, it IS an awesome color, is it the Saab gray?

And so what did you end up doing? Getting rid of all the engine wiring? Did you just leave pig tails and the rest of the chassis wiring? What unneccesary stuff did you get rid of?

the entire interior is tan which I am not a fan of so I need everything in black. The rear seats are going to kill me cause I have no idea what to do with them. 30 yr old foam... IDK really cause I haven't really spent any time back there but could them be ok? Just need re-upholstering?

that is just plain retarded. Before I went down to Georgia to get mine I had noticed one sitting in this driveway for many years. The tires have always been flat. I went up there one day and asked. Nope! The guy's mom answered the door, "oh no, he won't sell it." "can I talk to him?" "He lives in Myrtle Beach..." "What? are you serious? This is NY! Here is my number give it to him and have him call me about it" Whatever, I drove by there last year, its still sitting there. Its been at least 10 years since the first time I saw it there...

I will say it. That car is hideous! Ugly as hell! What a waste! hey, anyone know where I can get 2+2 interior parts? dragon says 79+ 2+2 parts but not 78!

Idk then, I see coupes and I see 2+2s and I don't see a difference. I kno there has to be one but I just don't see it. I like the idea of having a back seat. It just seems more reasonable. Plus if I ever really take it on the Power Tour like I intend on doin, that extra room will come in quite handy!
-
South Haven, MI?
-
yea maybe, he said he found them on "his local forum" IDK! *shrugs*
-
Other than the back seat, what's the big difference between the 2+2 and the coupe? Maybe 200 lbs? MAYBE? I imagine there has to be better head room so the roof is a bit higher?

Ha! My buddy Joe over on j-body.org sent me pics of ur car when I posted up my progress thread over there. He has a blue cav. What year is the bumper from? Does it make a difference? I HATE the 280z bumper! The first thing I did was take that thing off!

The ressurection of my '78 280z
ragefear replied to ragefear's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
thanks guys! I actually was thinking that I was being a little dorky with all the pics I was taking (i only post like half of them) but you guys made me feel better about it! HAHAHAH! Today I am goin to look for engine stands that I can lengthen and use as rotisseries. I got a tip on a place that can acid bath the beast! WOOT! Anyone know how to take the windshields out? The beast is pretty good looking. I traveled 1000 miles to get it cause of the frame's overall condition. It does have the typical rust, behind the rear tires, where the emblems were bolted down, and then some random spots on the roof but overall it does look awesome! It does however need a totally differentinterior! That is tore up! It had house rugs in it! BAH! thanks again guys! -
are those just two engine stands that you extended the height on? thats what it looks like and thats what I was thinking about doing. It just seems easier. any thoughts on it?

The ressurection of my '78 280z

So as I was chipping away at the 30 year old sound deadening last night I realized this is entirely wayyy too stupid. I need to have it done for me. The car is covered in chipped paint, its been painted multiple times. Rust is pretty controlled but still there in quite a few places. It has undercoating that is chipping and peeling away. Lots of surface rust is present. It really needs a good smack down. So I called around and I think I am going to have the entire shell sandblasted. Its probably going to take me a couple weeks to get everything off the car. Especially being that I am a work-a-holic, and my girlfriend craves constant attention.... I think I am going to try to build my own rotisserie for the project to make my life "that" much easier. I got the new motor two days ago. Of course my work-a-holic ass had to work that nite so I parked it and waited for last night to pull the motor out of the back of my truck, it was like Christmas! My buddy Rob came over with his son to give me a hand! I had to fight Kevin for it! It was a merciless battle! In the end we agreed that he could help unwrap it and all was well The beast! Out with the old and in with the new! 76mm ported throttlebody My first mod, that shift knob has been waiting for 3 years to go on... More to come!
