  1. Ok here's the deal. I got a quote over the phone as to the cost to ship 565lbs in two crates. One has an l28 engine and the other has a tranny. I got the engine weights from charts that I found here on the site. The dude says $210 to $295 depending on the overal size and if they are palletable or not. He did say that if it was deemed an oversize carton that it would be more. Ok had the Misses go down to the docks to drop it off for a "dock to dock" (cheapest) shipment. $580 plus tax!! This engine is going to one of our members and he has agreed to help with the shipping. That was ,of course, with the original estimate. Got any ideas? http://album.hybridz.org/showgallery.php?cat=735
  2. Good one Tony! Thanks for the update Mike. If we fall short, I'll be more than happy to donate again. Thanks,

    DONE

From the album: Hit The Road.

Ready to hit the dock. This load will be transported via what is termed "dock to dock". It goes from one wharehouse to the other. The receiving party must pick it up from the dock.

Not a limo but and enclosed ride none the less. As if it's gonna rain here!!
  8. I see. That motor IS low! I didn't have any fitment issue on the first test fit. I used mounts for the motor year (66). It was a bare block then so the rest of the story has yet to be told. Thanks for the pics!
  9. In what way is it "hacked up" a bit? I have been keeping track of any issues during the build and shall document the results. Haven't posted much yet, as what I have gone thru would be a rehash of pretty much what we have all been through. I have photographed piles of wires, metal, bumpers, and scrap. A shoe box full of engine bay brackets and a sack full of rusted metal that I had to hack out of various places. You know, the usual. I can tell you that the car is finally ready to reassemble. The rout that I have chosen, and the equipment on hand is... Brand new 289 "Brock" motor with the Performer RPM package, all aluminum. Alsil mout (the prelim fitment passed so far). Summit shorty headers. Yes I dumped the Sandersons. Brand new T-5 tranny. JTR tranny mount and differintial yoke. Drive shaft has not been fabricated but we are close. And Modern Motorsports coil over kit (thanks Ross they are purdy). I havent purchased brakes yet but, I intend on getting a set of Ross's rear brakes as well. I will be reporting shortly on any fitment issues with this package but I believe it will be a winner.
  10. Been in the aviation industry my entire life, military included. To qualify my response, let me say that hve the A/P, Aviation Sience Drgree, current Engineer for "a large helicopter company", have completed ground school but dropped out after 18 hours of flying. I have worked on, restored, or modified nearly every aircraft made military and civilian. Why did I drop out of pilot training? I, while waiting for my flight instructor, had a long chat with a group of skydivers. They brought to light that me, being a college student, would be lucky to be able to pay the fuel bill let alone storage, maintence, 100 hours/anual inspection ect. So I became a jumper instead of a flyer. I have held jobs where all I did was fabricate aircraft parts for various companies, all day, every day. I have seen a part that took me 6 hours and $15 of aluminum to fabricate only to ship out with a $580 price tag attached to it! Theses sucker ARE expensive. The best you may be able to do , if you truly want to save it, is to talk the owner into allowing you to work on it for a stake in it's resale. What does he have to lose? Your passion is refreashing however. I wish you all the luck.

    Mutineer Z

    From the album: Patches

If you have hacked your Z car and dont want to conform you might be a Mutineer!
  13. Yes Terry. A submission would be nice. Thing is that, there have been so relatively few successful Ford swaps documented that not only is the info scattered but the Ford crowd has yet to settle into a common install. Like Terry which (correct me if I am wrong) uses forward and aft engine plates to mount his engine where others use a cross member. Drive train wise there is the adapter flange or the jtr diff yoke and others. Lacking an industry "kit" for Ford engines has stalled it's progression. I can understand why some one would give up and "drop a chebby tree fitty in er". But in reality there is not much difference in the builds. It can be as simple as stated before. Snatch the alsil cross member and pick up the rest of the JTR kit, hit the Hybrid Z search button, cuss alot, and "get er done".
  14. Welcome. I love the idea of a ford small block in a Z. Imagine that. You will find what you need here. More pics! Some pics! Auto pics! Chick pics!

    Top it off.

    From the album: Crate Tranny

Top it and add some packing. In this case I rolled up some old carpet to keep her from rolling back and forth. Are your eyes blurry yet!
  17. Twoeightnine

    Yep it fits!

    From the album: Crate Tranny

    End to end is tight.
  18. Twoeightnine

    Does it fit?

    From the album: Crate Tranny

    Of course it fits!

    Sides

    From the album: Crate Tranny

Slap on some sides. Note tha when I built the base that I offset one half inch any inner supports. This will allow the outer to be flush.

    Base plat form

    From the album: Crate Tranny

Start with a sound platform. The center strips are more for reinforcement of the base than to keep the tranny still. They do both however.
  21. A FAQ on this subject would be in order. When I first came here, thats what I was looking for. Nothing but chevy stuff. The best advise that I was given was by JTR themselfs. It turned out to be pretty decent advise so far. Use the Asil engine mount and JTR extras. so far it has worked out for me but Im not completly finished though. I have gained alot from the people that have done it before me but the info is scattered and takes a bit of harvesting to get together. The only thing I have left is to mate the JTR diff adapter, chevy shaft to ford end at the tranny. I dont see a problem with it. Just haven finished yet. All I can say is dont read the hitman47 post (chad). It took me nearly an hour to read and ends in the toilet. Good intentions, just went down. After that it's been a bit at a time thing. Who's the guru?
  22. Break out your check book, contact Ross at Modern Motorsports. He can redrill your rears and sell you some new fronts. Or he can even sell you front and rears brand new. End of story. "Get er done".
  23. When working for a NASCAR crew, part of the tasks that I performed was installing and susequently removing vinyl graphics. We used a heat gun. A real heat gun. You had to get it hot as to be nearly uncomfortable to handle. And it would, in most cases, pull right off. If it was only warm, it would chip off. I noticed that the older the vinyl the tougher it would be. That is a kewl tool yoko. Do you chuck it into a drill? Have you used it on a painted surface? I think helmets have a poly vinyl coating on them. Looks interesting. Might be a long day with wide auto stripes though.
  24. Zackly Tony D!! I deposit the same amount per month all year long so... life is good. Any overtime I work goes into the pocket and subsequently into the Z. Lately I have been working alot of saturdays. She knows this but not how much. One cant live or count on overtime. But when it is worked it should be treated as extra. Spend it on something worthwhile. Like DATA!! Yea!! Or put it into the bank. Boooo. You dont really put weight in you car do you? See boys...we need some aero data. Cough up!!
