  1. Use a hand vacuum pump (mityvac or equivalent) on each wheel cylinder starting with the farthest from the master cylinder. Open the bleeder and manually pump until you get clear fluid. You do have to periodically check the fluid level on the reservoir and fill it back up. You can do the whole job in about an hour... Toys, must have more toys, err, I mean tools...
  2. That is a loaded answer. It takes quite a bit to put an LS1/LS6 intake on the 5.3... Mods to the water pump, fuel injection loop, and I still do not like how close the heater hose is to the throttle body linkage. You also have to lose the engine driven fan... The LS6 intake won't clear it... You also need to find an F-car oil pan. The truck sump is like 8" deep, and would hang way down in the breeze... I looked very closely at putting in an LR4 (4.8L) in my Z, but after adding up all the extra, plus modifications, it is actually no more expensive to put in a LS2 Corvette motor... Guess which one I am working towards...
  3. Sorry, the link does not work. I would wonder as well if half-shafts from a Supra II (161 to 170 HP L6) would stand up to my LS2. I know how beefy the Z32TT shafts are, and I am learning a lot about the Holden setup in the GTO... Thanks for the reply. Mike
  4. Or maybe grafted something else on that has better camber characteristics? Just curious. I was checking out at a '02 Firebird front crossmember today and it looked very interesting. I didn't have my tape measure with me though dammit...
  5. I can't touch an OEM ZXTT shaft for less that $300, unless I buy a whole unit, and pay as much shipping as the unit costs...
  6. It will also take a fair amount of work to mount it as well. Remember the R230 is a short nose housing so the front mount has to be fabricated, and the mustache bar is either custom or a redrilled R200, not to mention it is wider... Are used Holden Monaro parts very common where you chaps live? There maybe a possiblility of a shared shipping trade for parts in the near future if there are... I may need some AU half-shafts for my project.
  7. R230's are the "9" Ford third member" of the import world. Darn near bullet proof. The ratios I have found for them are depending on the vehicle they came in, which is a very short list, although I hear a rumor it is available in the new Pathfinder: Nissan Armada : 2.97, 3.36 '89-'99 (worldwide) Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo : 3.69
  8. I am going to be using an R230 out of a '90 300ZXTT for my project and I have been looking around for alternative half-shafts: '05-'06 GTO '89-'93Ford T-bird SC OEM ZXTT shafts ($$$$$) Custom shaft length will not be an issue as I have a good friend with a full blown machine shop. Which of these do you think would be more compatible? I noticed that the GTO units have 6 bolt flanges... Mike
  9. Well I am very interested in this swap since I am in the process of doing the same one, except I am using a 4L65E tranny and a Z32TT diff, with custom halfshafts. (current shafts I am looking at are from an '05 GTO). When I am done the car will be a about 70% GM and only 30% Datsun... Please keep us updated.
  10. In all my expereince with changing motors in cars, it is highly advisable to use the ECU, PCM, or what ever the vendor calls it, thats was designed for the car. That is of course unless you are a major electronics guru, and have a signal generator, oscilloscope, and a complete wiring diagram for both vehicles... Even then it is still a pain in the a$$...
  11. You didn't state what kind of heads you have. Even the fuelie heads of that era do not flow well compared to modern selections, like 493's, or 882's that are plentiful in junkyards and will wake up a small bore SB...
  12. Any updates to this very interesting thread?
  13. That is a HUGE L6. It is also a heavy weight. With absolutely no redeeming HP qualities. At least none that doesn't cost big $$$$. Slow revving, and can pull stumps... Stone reliable though... I had one in a '72 Pinto (yeah, a '72 Pinto) Took some creative work to put it there as well...
  14. Longevity: chain Timing accuracy/quietness: belt
  15. Don't get it on the paint of your car either. Make sure you add the "lubricant" to it as well. The 32 to 42 to 1 range is fine.
  16. Awesome pic Cyrus. Thank you very much. I think I have found a diff out of a wrecked '93 Z32TT. I only have to drive 950 miles to get it though... At least it will be there when I am ready for re-assembly. It also happens to line up with G&R Auto Parts in OK City where an immense area of almost new GM vehicles are. Will be looking for a 4L65E, and a TCM... Thanks for all the help... Mike
  17. The diff in that picture off of Phantom's link IS an R200... The R230 is much beefier and much more visually, wider than that on in the pic.
  18. I thought the Q45 diff was an R200? I am actively looking for a R230, and the only vehcles I know of with that pumpkin are the 300ZXTT and the Armada... No, you will gut an R180 (240Z diff) in fairly short order with V-8 power.
  19. I guess the lack of answers, 'answers' that question.
  20. I looked at a friend's Armada today and that is one sweet looking axle assembly. Unfortunately there are no Armadas in the junk yards for a 250 mile radius!!! My friend's Armada has the optional 3.36 gear ratio, which would be perfect for my application. Are there any other donor vehicles with R230's besides the 300ZXTT and the Nissan Armada? I searched this, and all I got was how to make half-shafts to fit (which is GREAT info BTW...) . I am hoping that by the time I am ready for the axle fit up I will be able to find an Armada in the junk yard.....
