  1. Got my used column (seen below) from a breakers yard. Used the elecy columns go for £50 - £75 over here. Make sure you buy one with its ecu, else its not going to work ! You need a seperate control unit which you can pick up for £30 up - dep on type you buy You can see it (small silver box) top far left in the above pic Mine is not speed sensitive, but tbh once you set it you get used to it at any speed imo The rest is diy and mates rates to get it welded up and fit your self on the weekend hths
  2. btw, those are old pics, yes my cars now red
  3. Yes mine still uses the std column and switch gear as I wanted it to still look as std as poss The motor part goes in the middle as shown and the lot tucks up under the dash without issue A control box is all thats needed and that fits easily under the dash aswell The only give away its even fitted is the little blue nob in the dash so I can adjust the steerings feel You start with these. std Z column and donor elecy column http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/900ss/260z/col2.jpg std 260z/280z column cut in bits http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/900ss/260z/2col2.jpg Motor and hybrid Z column http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/900ss/260z/2col3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/900ss/260z/2col4.jpg Fitted http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/900ss/260z/fitted2.jpg Mine is rhd, so not sure what odds fitting this to a lhd car would make? Might just mean the motor needs spinning to sit on the other side of the column? That is easily done
  4. You can also use elec power steering columns to give you power steering (various cars use them with diffo designs) Fitted one from a Vauxhall/Opel to my 78 260z a while back. After a few teething problems it now works well Has the advantage of being able to adjust the steering from lighter or heavier at the turn of a nob Also doesn't use the engines power to run it either so no pumps required
  5. Still no issues with mine but then I haven't tried it at santa pod yet either For what odds it makes when new mine came blackened like this
  6. Yes I realise that and am 100% sure I didn't have the inner CV on the wrong side As you say if fitted to the wrong side it then doesn't allow the inner CV shaft to fit correctly into diff. (Yes I also tried that aswell) One side would end up sitting wide when fitted wrong aswell as no doubt leak the diff oil out !!
  7. Ok this was a few months back when I took these pics and my cars since done 270 odd "mile" since then. But better to be safe then sorry First my cars a UK spec RHD 260z so I haveto think the other side to you guys All of this is based on LHD OR RHD terminology aswell But I still cant get my head around this Pics 1 & 2 below show my shafts reversed when I first tried them over 3 mths back When around the wrong way no way would the drivers fit As you can see the driver side (my passengers) is too long. Pics taken at full drop without outer cv fitted Pics 3 & 4 below show them around the right way imo Now if I refit the passenger shaft (my driver side) back to the drivers side it will become too long again ? As far as I can see they are right as they are ? Or am I very wrong ????
  8. Many thanks Scott, that looks the way to go! Will give that a try, cheers
  9. Don't want to use wood if poss Not that it wood (excuse the pun) deteriorate any worse then Datsun metal Just rather do it the once. Fit n forget n all that
  10. Don't know if these exist hence the question Anyone know if there's a rear rollbar drop bracket kit for a 260/280z that allows the rollbar to be spaced away from the propshaft/body more? Reason being with a larger Skyline GTST R230? diff flange on the R200 diff the prop UJ hits the rollbar Anyone else had the problem ?
  11. Not sure if this is any use to you as my cars rhd But from what I rem this 6 branch manifold places the turbo in the same place as stock. Just a cheapy ebay special
  12. Cheers. I did look on ebay but only saw the pre 77 lock type ?
  13. Can anyone tell us if the door locks for a late 77/78 280z are the same as another Nissan? Mine are worn so am looking for an alterative lock that fits the bill Earlier door locks are not the same as I already have a set of those
  14. Would you not just vent it back to the main tank breather?
  15. As far as I was aware the R200 diff didn't use a crush sleeve. So just replace the drive flange and do the nut to the correct torque As for the two drive shafts?? I would say Z31 turbo with MM adaptors n later 280z hub stub axles x2
  16. Dunno if anyone else uses them but mines fitted fine as it has a 2 piece quick shift lever No need to force it over the fat part as the top fat half unscrews to leave just a thin stump Just a thought
  17. Cheers Yep its getting there bit by bit
  18. It's a long way to the top Parts still required to get this Z to rock n roll
  19. My 1978 RB260z (still under construction)
  20. Just another weekly visit to the top No reply from MM to yet another message and $400 in my hand Someone must have a set gathering dust they want to shift
  21. You gotta be good (or god) if you can remove/refit both cv's without getting dirty
