  1. SO I have been looking at options to put together a power generator to run a TIG machine off of. I could go and buy a $500 8hp single piston engine that would be a good application. OR... A 1.6 aircooled VW beetle engine. I can get a bug motor for like $100 at the JY and a complete rebuild kit for like $250 with pistons, cylinders, and everything else. There is a kit out there to convert your bug engine to be an air compressor with a special camshaft and some other parts. I figured why not build a fat generator out of a 60hp bug motor? I could get the generator motor as a replacement part from a Miller generator(10,000+ watts). That way I could power several things. I could power 220 for a TIG, power a small mill or lathe, lighting, an air compressor, deep fryer, and many other things. Miller welding had a hotrodded generator with a HUGE generator and a 350 chevy with dragster headers on it. Why not a VW 60hp? I'd like to hear your thoughts!! OTM
  2. The triple sidedraft turbo makes it RUBY for me...
  3. Found more camera stuff on a top shelf!! The flash unit is in there with the bracket to mount it to the Kodak 35... WOW!! And the fact that it still has the box! Unfortunately the box is taped but still! There is also another light meter inside the box as well! I also found a "Robert Burns" book of scottish poetry... FROM 1835!!! Many "seminary" books from the late 1800s to the late 1930's.
  4. You could convert to a zx type window with no frame surrounding the window. I have seen it done one time on an early Z and it was clean! You could also put zx t-tops on a first gen Z. You could also do some half-doors like on the old european race cars of the 50's. Just cut the door in half horizontally and weld the bottom half to hold the brace and use the top half as the door. This would restrict what you could do for a window though. Still pretty cool.
  5. If I were to do a roadster Z I'd delete the doors alltogether (weld them shut) and use a removable steering wheel... That is just me though. Think about it, with the roof gone the only thing holding your z from bending in half is the rockers and tranny tunnel... I have heard about doing a tubular reinforcement inside the rocker panels... or even better would be some door bars. With a roadster you don't have to worry about hitting the roof with your head so door bars should not be a big problem.
  6. 3 liter Ferrari 312P Barquetta at Nurburgring I want to work on this team:
  7. I accept... Max gets to pay my shiping costs...
  8. Well the roof is a part of the frame. That is why most people have one or another. You need to do some sort of extra reinforcement to keep the frame from flexing without the strength of the roof. I have been thinking of doing a Targa style top with my Z like one of the Z prototypes. OTM/Dan
  9. Supposedly he is back home already...
  10. Paul, Why does the CR have to be soo low? Can't you close the chambers down and get some pistons that will significantly raise compression back up to a usable level? This idea is very cool!
  11. There was an article in Automotive engineering magazine in the last 4 months about the camless valvetrain. Very interesting article.
  12. That is why I was thinking removing the springs and threaded collars all-together. Just make a jig for each wheel and replace the spring with two threaded rods that sit on either side of the strut. Sort of like a spring compressor but used to old the suspension at one height. You could also install a big motor to the threaded rods and be able to change ride height remotely DURING a blow. Or just get a battery operated drill to shove under the fender and turn the threaded rod(s). No removing of wheels or even moving it out of the tunnel. My Z is set up with coilovers and if you wanted to use it as a pig to test the offer is there. OTM Just saw Cary's idea here on page 3... That would also work VERY well!
  13. How do you get that much crud? That puts BRAAP and RonTyler both to shame by far... And what engine is this? Chevy and Cosworth?: and you thought airjockie had a lot of rims...LOL
  14. So we could just lower a car an extra 1.5" for the test right? Someone could fabricate a custom spring replacement to adjust ride height easily. It would basically replace a spring and threaded collar on a coilover setup with a threaded rod on either side of the strut to adjust the ride height.
  15. Is that bypass valve just a butterfly valve like on a TB but with a motor on it? Cool.
  16. I took a flap disc to my L6 block and smoothed most of it out and then blasted the rest. Then had it powdercoated prismatic black. The powdercoat seems to be holding up to the heat and cleans up easily with a rag because the surface is very smooth.
  17. Except in half the size as an S30... LOL Remind me how they passed crash tests? The local volvo place had 2 of them but they were in shambles. I wanted to get one but they were too far gone.
  18. Ellis AutoworkZ does some sweet work on Z cars and Nissans in general. They had a sweet Z31 at Zdayz back in May.
  19. Also the Gnose was tested in the standard form is like funneling air under the car. Funnel, just like stock but with more shelf to grab air and push it under... An ok scraper...should be less gap under the "bumper" edge. Just stretch the airdam upwards to seal off the gap. OTM
  20. How did this thread just die? Elves are real!!! Beautiful BMW
  21. Turbo tom used a completely different manifold... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=117512&highlight=turbo+tom
  22. Paul, Those photos are stunning!!! I can't believe that one taken from your front yard!! I'm never going to live in a city once I have the choice. And I can't post without showing some pictures of some OEM art. BTW this is the same Exilim V500 (5 megapixel) that went bouncing about 15 feet down the road when I broke my jaw (into 4 big pieces and 20+ tiny pieces) in a bike wreck 9 months ago.
  23. Just 10 sells/buys... Should not be long before I can.
  24. Once I get the reputation points to be able to list stuff for Buy it now I'll do that. Thanks for the tips!
