  1. I absolutely LOVE TIG!!! When I was in welding school I made a great weld just for fun. I laid down on the floor with the weld joint in an overhead position about 2.5 feet off of the floor. I went as slow as I possibly could just to make a beautiful weld. Obviously I was baking the poo out of the metal but I just wanted to show a pretty weld. One trick for Oxy Brazing is to use a pencil and mark on either side of the joint. Use a straight edge and make is as wide as you want the weld to wick out. The graphite of the pencil creates a "wall" and the brazing filler material will flow right up to the pencil line. We used Victor and Smith oxy-acetelene welding and cutting and welding gear. Unfortunately I never took the oxy-welding class. Took oxy-cutting my first quarter though. Here are some pics of me TIG welding (my uglier welds...can't weld with photos being taken.):
  2. Did you use oil, assembly lube, or cam lube (if included?) when you put it in? OTM
  3. how about a VG30DETT? I found a whole Z32TT for 2 grand and it was just missing an intercooler and some body pieces... motor was good. I was SOO close to getting the whole car and rebuilding it!
  4. I have also looked at the Miller Trailblazer. My welding school had an old one that we used to weld up stuff around campus. check out this welder! Very cool! And Tony... Miller welding makes the Bobcat.
  5. Look on the very back of the cam. If there is a "C" stamped there then it is the 260z E88 cam which was the largest of stock cams...
  6. Why does this look like a scam? All of the photos are old and used before to sell the car... hmm...
  7. Thanks for the input guys! I was looking at the VW motor because it weighs so little. I'll tell about the application that this generator will be for. I am looking at building a mobile fabrication shop on the back of my Frontier. The bed will disappear and a flatbed type rear end put on. I'll probably modify the rear axle placement and move it back a foot and extend the bed. Put on a small lift kit (4"?) with heavy duty springs, swap in a solid axle in the front and add a divorced transfer case. I'll have to modify the motor to put out about 30% more power to carry all this extra weight. Shouldn't be a problem with a supercharger, some cams, and exhaust. Anyway I'll be able to park, set up a 25'X25' tent and pull out the welder, mill, and maybe a small lathe. I'll be able to travel around the southeast doing emergency repairs, remote area fabrication, and other stuff. Probably going to be doing custom car stuff wherever I am. Thinking about turbo swaps for most of the popular imports and even domestics on location.
  8. ASE certified... Still don't trust them a bit. I've only had tires changed and an exhaust mounted because I don't have the tools yet. I was right there with them the whole time watching. OH well... you don't get what you pay for anymore I guess. Just better to do it yourself.
  9. You are lucky that is all you had...All four corners of my Z were made of Bondo. I think I found some metal down in there... The RR section right near the bumper had 1/2" of Bondo on it. The front passenger side front stock "flare" was all bondo. Probably happened when the car was wrecked at Road Atlanta(supposedly) back in the late 80's... Hope you get it worked out. OTM
  10. Pictured (just on passenger side of the front SU roundtop): Sorry I don't have closer ones.
  11. May you up the boost and not get struck by lightning for another year! lol Have a good one! OTM
  12. If I had the money in my paypal I would have put a bid in... oh well...
  13. If you are online right now there are some 44mm mikuni tripples for dirt cheap on ebay... HERE 1 hour left and at $507
  14. Just in general... if you find a turbo car then grab the stuff that someone converting from N/A to turbo would want. Search and find out what injectors are upgrades for Zs and other cars... get those. 86-87 Supra turbo injectors(440cc) Pretty much any old car emblem in good shape should sell decently as long as there are no cracks. If you only buy and sell Z stuff then don't plan on making much money... The ricer crowd on the other hand loves putting used parts on their car. FWIW... OTM
  15. Yes dashes are good to get. They are just a pain to pull out of a car that is on blocks. While you are looking around... What is some OTHER stuff that sells? Turbo stuff generally sells great on Ebay. fuel injectors(!!) fuel pumps? cylinder heads wiring harnesses differentials In general I try to grab everything that I can that looks valuable and in good condition. Emblems usually cost like $1.00 and can sell for $10-$15. Just load up on emblems...lol
  16. WOW! Maybe the lightning hit your phone line? Glad y'all are fine! OTM
  17. It wasn't Shariff's car. But I think he had the mods and tuning done at forged performance. It was a burgundy 350. He said that he was about to build a new bottom end for it because the stock one wasn't going to hold much longer... Hope your build goes well!
  18. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Custom-Drag-Strip-car-project-show-1972-72-240-280-look_W0QQitemZ200127720284QQihZ010QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem This looks like the body kit from show car parts... Notice that the hatch is rusting through the paint. I don't like it. Makes the Z look like a boat.
  19. hmm... There was a guy at Zdayz supposedly making like 700 something horsepower on stock internals. Austin, I think the VQ will go great in your Z. Looks like mucho fun!
  20. So something like an A13 L4? I was also thinking of that...
  21. haha... there was no L6 in the car from Jada... LOL the builder made it from scratch. (!!)
