  1. Hey guys, I'm in the process of completely replacing/rebuilding the suspension on my 72 240Z and have read most all the threads and sticky's about this on here. Urethane bushings, sectioned struts w/ Illuminas, 5" threaded collars, 10" springs 225F/250R. Oh, by the way I'm doing this w/ a complete suspension from a 77 280Z. I understand this will bolt in but it also leads me to a couple of questions. This will be mainly a street car w/ maybe some track time. Using 16" wheels w/ a planned ride height of 6" but with the ability to go a little lower if I so choose. So, here is my 1st question: Although they are 280Z struts, on the front should I still use the 240Z recommended inside tube height of 13.375" - 13.500" and a perch height of 5.25"? Same question for the rear. Should I achieve an inside tube height of 14.938" - 15.000" and a perch height of 7.25"? If I understand correctly, although they are 280Z struts (the rear 280Z struts are a couple of inches longer than 240Z rear struts), if I use the dimensions posted byjohnc, I will essentially have what is dimensionally identical to 240Z sectioned struts. Can anyone confirm or correct me if I'm wrong. My second question is: Should I use the rear 240Z strut tops instead of the taller 280Z rear strut tops, if the 280Z struts are going into a 240Z? I hope this makes since and someone will confirm or correct. Thanks in advance.
  2. Thanks for sharing. I've got all the parts and will be sectioning mine soon and would have been facing the same situation. I'm using TTT top spring seat.
  3. Multiple mounting angles makes it nice since it's sealed and won't puke acid. I use a red top inside passenger rear compartment.
  4. I Picked this up at the Mitty 2010 from a little known artist, Robert Matthews, a very talented and super nice guy. While I was talking/purchasing with Robert, Adam Corolla walked up and asked if he had a drawing of one of his personal cars, I think it was the Camel GT car. Robert dug through his artwork and pulled out the car Adam wanted. He seemed to have artwork of just about any vintage sports car imaginable...especially popular racers. I had it autographed by Adam Corolla and Pete Brock. I also managed to pick up a couple of the Mitty 2010 posters like you have from John Finger Mazda.
  5. A little more info on what I need. I'm wanting to purchase several relatively small items (lightweight suspension parts for my 240Z) from an online retailer but they don't offer combined shipping on multiple items...they want $65 to ship what could be packed down to about a $15 shipped package. Anyone that can help will be appreciated..I'll even slip you a few bucks for the help.
  6. The early 80's movie "King of the Mountain" was mentioned but you forgot to mention the fact that it's a V8 Z. There is actually dialog about the Z. Something like "The V8 Z wants to race you..." Then you catch a glimpse of it and hear it pulling away.
  7. Is anyone in Independence, Missouri who can pick up some items and mail them to me? It's less than $70 worth of stuff plus shipping and I can paypal you the money in good faith. Thanks for your help. Joe
  8. I have a square port available too...PM sent skimattybee.
  9. I have springs and headers in Greenville. I'll email tomorrow.
  10. Hi,I need a set of 6 MSD boots and terminal ends for a conventional distributor cap. I also need the cutter/crimper or whatever tool is need to put termianl ends on the MSD wires. I bought a set of these wires (red with gray boots) with HEI ends and I need to convert them to regular distributor ends. Maybe someone bought a set of universal 8.5 wires and used the HEI and have the ends I need left over...Thanks, Joe
  11. I'll be glad to pick it up for you!
  12. Very nice! Look forward to updates.
  13. Very nice! Glad to see the work you're doing. I'm in the process of upgrading the chassis on my 72 Turbo Tom's car.
  14. I found an image of a header like mine...it came from another thread here josh817 started last year, discussing Japanese N/A 400hp L6's. This image is supposed to be from the DatsunSpirit 240Z. I measured the tubes and they match the listed specs (42mm pri. and 52mm sec.) and the design appears to be identical. I also found it listed on datsunspirit.com It may be a Japanese market part...makes me want to build an N/A motor around the header
  15. Does anyone have an idea what I have here?...
  16. Any thoughts on what I have. It looks like a good quality header...5/8" flange, approx. 1-3/4" tubes. Twin 2" bolt-on outlet flange...Thanks!!
  17. I, too, have 8" x 2.5" but they are 225lb...would coil bind be an issue with these? I understand you section the struts just like with a 10" spring.
  18. Hasn't anyone dealt with this? Need some advice...thanks.
  19. Does anyone have suggestions of how to fix a broken metal clip that a tail light surround snaps into on a 240Z? One of my clips is broken and looks like the only way to fix is drill spotweld out and remove the clip...then weld in a replacement clip from a donor car. Has anyone slavaged any from a 240Z? Thanks for the advice!
  20. Here are some pics of the rear Wilwoods/Maxima vented rotors... Removed just enough from hub face diameter to clear inside of rotor hat area. This shows the mock-up of the 1/4" steel caliper bracket and 3/8" aluminum spacer...I still have to finish off the spacer. Also, a shameless plug for my FJ40 . Centering over rotor works well with this setup. These are the BBS's I'll be using. They need refinishing as well as so many other parts . Wheel clearances are all good. I didn't have to do anything to the rotors or calipers...they should drop right in place now. We'll see...this is all new to me and I'm on a serious learning curve.
  21. Good news and FYI. I found a set of '85 front Maxima vented rotors will work perfectly for my rear 4 piston Wilwood upgrade. Had to reduce the diameter of the hub face slightly...now the rotors fit as well as centering tightly over the hub center.
  22. I got a set of 4 piston wilwood calipers/adaptors I'm fitting to the rear of my 72 240Z. I'm in the process of centering the calipers over the 300zx rear rotors...and while I'm at it I thought I would try to fit a set of vented rotors. Does anyone know of an OEM (from whatever) vented rotor that will fit over my stock 4 lug rear hubs? Thanks!
  23. Beta Motorsports and Modern Motorsports both carry them. Ground Control carries them too...but with GC, I don't think you can buy at a component level...they'll only sell you a whole kit...springs and all. I couldn't find the larger diameter at Coleman either.
