I'm getting ready to rebuild my 383 sbc. (externally balanced). I'm looking for 400+ hp. I have Edelbrock Preformer heads and intake and I'm going to put a roller cam in it. I have a 400 sbc. setting on a cart. I'm thinking of rebuilding it instead. I've never ran one, I've heard they have overheating problems. The 383 is a 87 block, the 400 is a 76. I'm thinking the parts will swap. It's my DD. (When it's not on jackstands) Chime in.

Remember June 6th 1944 and those who gave all. and thank those who didn't, so we can do this.

Exhausted, stressed and broke Welcome to parenthood. You did a GOOD thing. Take pride. It was a selfless act in a hard time. You change a life for the good. I hope as time goes by you can appreciate the good she has brought and will bring into your lives. I'm glad my 6 kids are grown. Now it's fun with grandkids. (Wind-up, buy annoying toys and send home) I hope your back is better, or at least it's manageable. Good luck in court. You always have friends here, maye we can't help wrench, only inspire. Good Job Randy

I've had one for almost 30 years. I bought it for my now xwife. She had scoliosis and had a back operation with screws for an injury. It was to painful. Mine as ankle boots and they are painful when you hang. If you just lay on an incline, you can do it for quite awhile. You need to build up time on it. It will stretch you. They are not a toy, use wisely. When I first got it the most fun was to put my friends on it and have them do as many leg pullups as they can, you abuse muscles you didn't know you had. The price is down, I paid almost $400 way back when.

Dr. Hunt has it right. Thru White trash is a morale thing, no redeeming value to society. In the broad stroke it gets used to describe lifestyle and physical appearance. Since I fall into the latter, I'd like to go off on a rant but my finger can't keep up with my brain. I'll just say I want my Z rebuilt more than I want all my teeth.

"Jackstand racing" We all do it.

Crawl under it, look better.

Yes, It's not the first thing I do and if it doesn't work I'll lockem up.(not in the Z) I drive 40 miles one way on a 2 lane hwy. between 2 towns. Lots of moose and deer so there's always a reason to hit the brakes. It's all the same people at the same time and some of them need to learn. I'll watch two cars way ahead of me. one right up the others butt for miles with no good reason and I hope that guy doesn't do that to me. I'll try the passive ways to get them to pass or back off. Some are stupid, some are pricks. The basic ways (and my German Shepard) generally work on the pricks, sometimes you have brake check the stupid. This only happens when there are no other cars. If I'm in traffic and can't do much, they all stop somewhere, then I can explain it to them. On the freeway (closest one 60 miles) it doesn't apply, not enough traffic. Passive methods work.

Snooping around the web found a Z photo nabber...

Thanks, so many options, the good side of not having my car finished. -
tim and eric are unwatchable. Xavior is to far out there. Robot chicken, ATHF and Squidbillies are twisted, funny stuff.

The 350 itself is not the problem. Driveline angles, drive shaft balance, or any number of other things are going on. The header bolts are a problem unto themself. Do some searching. And yes you have to keep doing maintenance.

HELP!!! Need taller gears sbc350turbo350 76z
GLSHLE replied to turbonissanzx's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I'd think twice about a 200-4. I bought 82 Z28 in 83 (now the ex's) 305 150 hp. The tranny went out a couple of years later. Got it fixed with a lifetime replacement. It's on #4, and its going south. Thats with over 10 years of driveway quiet time. There's a kit for the 700-4 that they say it will take 500hp. I don't know about the driveshaft yet, but I figure I'll have to have it worked on. My 3.36 r180 clsd couldn't take 400hp. a shift kit and a slapstick. I'm not a young man ,and if I never step on a clutch again that would be nice. My .02 Randy -

You can't fix it in the diff. I have the same thing with taller gears, and it screams. I'm putting in a 700r4. -
Painting the Purple People Eater/Cleaning up my DD
GLSHLE replied to SilentNight1647's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Nice clean car. I like your body kit, spoiler included. Darker blue w/ two 8"white racing stripes. -
To flare or not to flare, that is the question, and one I'm also dealing with. There are so many nice cars on both sides of the fence. I had to roll my fenders to get my wheels to clear. I think you have a choose, flares or differant wheels, there going to rub.

Driving it is much more fun than looking at it. I ran a 305 for quite a while and was happy with it. If I wouldn't have blown it up I'd still be driving it. You'll have time to plan and build the next one. Now I have a 383, 2x the horsepower 2x the fun. You'll always want more power. Keep in mind you can't put your intake on centerbolt heads.

I've named all my cars. I told my daughter when I gave her her first car that she had to name it, cars like that. My first Z was Zed. This Z hasn't been named, I just call it my little Hot Rod, Baby, and and on occasion, you FPOS.

Very Nice!! Keeps a guy taking them little steps toward that small light at the end of the tunnel.

And the head goes round and round. The strength of the r200 is not in question. Your numbers look right to have it in the car. If I got a used clsd, I would go thru it. I don't think the Q45 install is that much more difficult than the r200 because I'm going to do all the bushing while I'm there. I'm taking it that the techotoy setup as took the engineering and fab. out of it, so it's pretty much a bolt in? For the differents In dollars, I get coilovers and disk brakes, which means new wheels, which means off to the front end I go.(Boy, I just blew past that $2500. in a big way, but all things I want to do.) I'm putting in a 700r4, so I have to play with the driveshaft anyway. All that said, It come down to reliablity. used VLSD verse HLSD verse rebuilt CLSD. Driveablity and performance when I need it. Still thinking longnose r200, But....

Well you have me think'n r200 cv setup. I hope to read more feedback on the OBX. Thanks, Randy

GLSHLE replied to LT1-280z's topic in Drivetrain
Could you run a 10mm die down a 12mm bolt and leave a 12mm shoulder? I think I'm going to be dealing with this, and that much slop make's me nervous. -
Look up ifinitoptions on ebay. you have to go thru contact seller. Their slow, but if your in a bind. They have an ad in Q45 parts.

There wild animals, That makes them tough and dangerous. They want to eat without getting hurt. If there pushed, who knows? A month ago we had one that attacked people 2 seperate times and it wasn't rabbid. We got wolves, when you see one of them you don't think it's a yote. Then there's them damn Griz. They have been hunting hunters and stealing kills. But that's another story.
