  1. Nice buy, I love that color. Dont downplay the auto just yet... searching around on here will yield some surprising capabilities from the old jatco. Please keep us posted with updates... man I wish mine wasnt ******* brown.
  2. What EMS are you running that does the self tuning? How do you like it? Was it costly?
  3. Or my logic for using it, rather. If the readings were 90-90-90-90-40-55, for example, I would be alerted to something being very wrong in there.
  4. I figured that was the case when I bought the gauge. Literally picking the cheapest one at o'reilly. My purpose for getting it was that if all of the cylinders were the same, the motor should be in good shape.
  5. Oz, you gotta keep us up to date when you decide to pressurize that thing. I'm excited for you to see the results.
  6. Thanks for the input, everyone. I am still trying to narrow down the issue. Will check some of the more obvious suggestions before moving on to the more complicated. Tyler, are you sure about the compression?
  7. Awesome that you followed through with this. Glad to see its working well for you!
  8. None of my v8 Zs ever leaked oil, so, yea I would say they are more dependable than your particular L... faster too.
  9. I too go commando and cannot afford to dirty up my shorts by pulling them up. sometimes you gotta waddle like a kid, junk swinging in the breeze, to realize you are in fact the man in that place.
  10. @datsphilly... has some shots of my 240 and lately my 280zx under a blanket of snow.
  11. As for your MS... no idea... but I have had the issue you are talking about with the brakes only it was my right front brake only. Turns out, not bled properly. The backwards install may be worth looking into also.
  12. I understand John's (and others) frustration. However I also agree that having the FAQs pinned in their respected sections (as it was at one point) may deter some of the newbie questions. Ultimately without a screening process there's really no way to keep lazy people from posting simple questions and hoping someone has the patience to answer. I have been trolling a highly technical site that I refer to as "non denominational" in that it doesn't cater to a make or model but rather just going fast. As I reference it, I have six posts there and have been a member since 2003, because it is one of the many outlets I use to gain knowledge. I was trolling this site for years before I thought I could start an intelligent conversation here, much less help someone else with their Z issues. But that's just me, there are (as we know) a crapton of people who are not willing to read and be humble and learn. Another point from a previous page that I believe holds water is if this is strictly a top end technical site then "which of the MSA airdams looks coolest" should get flamed on. John sees this site as a place where highly skilled and experienced people in and out of the industry can talk advanced tech. It is just that. But if we want to grow as a community (or continue to grow) there needs to be a buffer of tolerance for newbs and newbie type behavior. There is a rules section I remember reading that stated something to the effect of search before you ask... Perhaps putting it in the user agreement and suspending or banning people for offenses is in order?
  13. no kidding... the holidays always burn out my fun money... income tax return check is around the corner... so ill be straight soon.
  14. Sweet, the project is coming along nicely... keep us posted!
  15. looks good! what kind of front lip is that? very nice!
  16. The weight difference is not a big one, especially with aluminum heads and intake. If you are using a small block and four speed I'm gonna take a leap and say you want to drag race? To counter the weight difference, (although unnecessary in my opinion) you can move your battery to the back, use a fiberglass hood, remove the front bumper, run some lightweight 15x3.5" drag wheels in the front, or any combination of those things. I've driven a couple V8 z's with SBC swaps and I'll admit, you dont notice the weight, you notice the torque, and the dependability.
  17. PMC that's a really clean setup, looks very professional.
  18. ^ Thats not too bad Mike... I once used a steering column setup that put the boost gauge right in the center between the speedo and tach, then put the wideband in the clock. It's really a matter of preference but I couldnt find a setup of a pod for the a-pillar on an s30 that didnt look like a complete abortion so I made that choice.
  19. Colorado junkyards are scarceon s130's also, I feel your pain. I had one guy laugh at me when I called ahead to ask if they had any Z cars in there. He spoke as if I was asking if they had scrap Ferrari F40s lying around, "those things are rare as hell and a gold mine if you find one." About a month later I picked my running 82 turbo for 900 bucks. Whatever.
  20. No sputtering or strange act really... Its like it runs out of breath, its not abrupt either, it fades from about 3800 to 4200 and really wont rev any higher. This only happens under load, also,, I can free rev it whenever.
  21. So, long story short, the car pulls fine to 3800-4000rpm and then doesn't pull anymore. I could swear I have heard of this problem before but cannot find the correct combination of keywords to bring me the search results I need. Any suggestions? Combo is: 82 280zx L28 P90a (previous owner claims less than 5k on rebuild) stock intake/ exhaust/ turbo aftermarket intercooler 70mm tb factory fuel with the addition of a RRFPR and JSK rail greddy profec electronic boost controller 7ish psi (previous owner said he used to crank it up to 14, I dont trust the fueling) compression test reads 90-90-90-90-90-90 +or-1 This issue literally happened overnight on an otherwise fun, great running 280 and I am not sure why or how to correct it. Any help would be appreciated.
  22. I would just opt for an lsd in whatever gear ratio and run a taller tire... However I'm strictly into drag racing and generally driving like a douchebag on the streets. If your use is different that may effect your decision.
  23. Yea man I still have a leaky intake/exhaust gasket... Ive been too lazy/ it's been too cold to change it. Additionally I want to put new studs and bolts for the intake and exhaust since the p/0 misplaced two of the exhaust nuts and one of the nuts for the downpipe... FML... Once you clear the obstacles with the gotech setup, I'm gonna have to ride your **** and try the **** out myself... Seems like a really good deal for the price. p.s.... 60-1 is gonna dominate the 80s supercar shootout
