I purchased the Turbosmart Pro-Gate 45mm wastegate. Very nice piece and it uses v-band clamps so fabricating is alot easier that trying to line up bolt holes. Here is a link to the Aussie distributor though I think they have a U.S outlet now. The exchange rate was a bit more favorable when I purchased mine (I paid around 450.00) but per this website it is now closer to 550.00 which is getting up there for a wastegate. http://www.autospeed.com.au/shop/category_804/browse.html Anthony, '71 Datsun 510 wagon, '91 Toyota Supra Turbo engine (327rwhp)

Go to www.dimequarterly.com There is a large list of links, vendors, and tech info at this site. You can join the bluebird mailing list for more info. It is not set up like this forum. You post e-mails to the list and you recieve all e-mails and responses others have sent. Anthony '71 510 wagon, '91 Toyota Supra turbo engine (327 rwhp)

I'm guessing 17x8's may fit but that back spacing is crucial--to see if they will fit remember that from lip to lip wheels measure approximately 1 inch larger than they are rated e.g 17x8's are 9 inches wide. A relatively easy way is to measure out a 9 inch wide piece of cardboard and with the wheel off put it under the wheelwell and see if it fits in various positions. If it does you should be able to make those wheels work assuming offset is correct and assuming you do not get tires wider that 9 inches. Go to sits like www.bfgoodrichtires.com and you can get exact tire height and width specs (from sidewall to sidewall). Anthony

I don't know of any specific examples but alot of people put the vg30 (non turbo) in 68-73 510's. This site www.vg30.com sells kits to install these engines in a 510. The turbo motor will not fit in a 510 without some seroius mods due to clearance issues with the turbo but the z has alot more room. The motor mounts from the above kit should work on the z as both 510's and z's have an l-series block. I had an L28 in my 510 and used the stock motor mounts so the spacing should be the same. That would take care of one of your problems. The owner of vg30.com may be able to answer other ?'s. Anthony '71 510, '91 Toyota Supra Turbo engine (327 rwhp at 14 psi)

I have also reused the HKS metal headgasket on my the 7m-gte in my 510. I cleaned it completely with acetone and then used the copper gasket sealer on the gasket and the block and head and have had no issues. Anthony, '71 510 wagon, '91 Toyota Supra Turbo engine (327 rwhp)

I would agree with 240z. I have a .69 housing with an O-trim exhaust wheel and lag is not a big issue. Anthony

Hey Tony, You might try Bell Turbo in Socal (not associated with Corky Bell). I wish I had their info but a call to information could rectify that. Also Turbo Specialties may have a better price. From my experience Turbonetics is the last place to call if you want a good price. I purchased a turbine housing for around 85.00 3-4 years ago for my Rotomaster T04 from Bell Turbo. You should have plenty of room for the downpipe. I used 3 inch pipe and have much less room than is shown in your pic. You can get a short radius 3 inch mandrel bend that dumps down very quickly and saves alot of space. Anthony, '71 510 wagon, '91 7mgte (327 rwhp) http://www.datsuns.com/Tech/dyno/7mgte-510-wagn.gif

You can also find that type of hose at www.summitracing.com --it is the generic Summit brand and while not cheap is less than Coolflex. I paid around 90.00 for a 4 ft piece that came with enough adapters for the upper and lower hoses and many different diameters of inlet/outlet. This topic came up on a 510 mailing list and if memory serves the engine and 5 speed trans comes in arount 450-475 lbs. Anthony

If you look further in that website they are 15x10 Watanabe's. You might contact the website owner at the e-mail given www.mikeseez@pacbell.net and see if he knows the owner of that 510. Anthony

I have used the Dual Friction in 2 different engines an l28 turbo and my current 7mgte Toyota Supra Turbo engine that is in my '71 510 wagon. I have never had slipping issues on either engine. Be aware that you have to let the clutch break in for the 500 miles recommended. See dynochart below 327 rwhp--no slipping. http://www.datsuns.com/Tech/dyno/7mgte-510-wagn.gif Anthony,

I have dyno'd my car and got 322 rwhp at 6200 rpm with the curve still rising on my 7m-gte. Goto www.supras.com and goto the Sonic link for a very good build up story. I had the engine shipped to my house for less than 850.00. I boought an HKS metal headgasket and used new head bolts torqued to 72 ft lbs and have had no problems running 15psi in the worst of conditions (108+ at Thunderhill). You can find 510's for sale at www.dimequarterly.tierranet.com which is a really good 510 site in general and also has a good classified ads section and many 510 links. Anthony

Yasin, Thanks alot. I have the rear set of my wheels being widened right now by a machine shop that does that sort of thing for guys that run Bonneville, point being I trust his work. I will be able to run 245/40/17's in the rear and I have the tires now and they do fit under the fenderwells. I'll try to get some pix up after I install them. Again I appreciate the kind comments. Mark, The crank pulley will hit the lower core support if you move the engine forward more than a few inches and from my recollection of my sway you will need more than that to get the engine in w/o cutting the firewall. You may want to check with SSS510 on this as he has the motor in his car now and can tell you for sure. Also, not sure if you care about handling or not but moving the engine forward will just make the car understeer even more. Anthony '71 510 wagon, '91 Toyota Supra Turbo engine

Cody, Thanks, someday I may even get some nice paint like yours , but I keep spending $ on speed instead. Anthony

Scottie, I have to run 17's to clear my front brakes + I like how they look which I imagine is why you purchased 17's. I autocross and do track days once in a while and the brakes are great so no complaints. I would love to do the One Lap of America www.Onelapofamerica.com -- so I have built the car for that type of event. I am upgrading to 245-40-17's in the rear which should be at least a little improvement over the 205's. SSS510 ran 11.77 on 7 inch slicks in his 510. I think at the time he had about 40 more hp than I and a little lighter car. His 60ft times were in the 1.6 range. Anthony, '71 510 wagon, '91 Toyota Supra Turbo engine (322 rwhp)

I have had both an l28t and my current engine the 7m-gte from the MKIII Supra in my 510 wagon. You can fit anything if you want to fabricate enough although I was able to use stock motor mounts as the L28 is an L motor (obviously). In short you have to cut the firewall out, relocate the heater, live w/o wipers or get an a/m system, modify the steering centrelink and a thousand other things. VG30 swap is easier but you can't fit a Turbo VG30 as it interferes with the frame rails. As for the suspension if you want to go fast in a straight line the solid rear axle makes launching alot easier. When the IRS squats in a 510 you lose alot of tire contact patch. My best time at the drags on 205/40/17 street tires was 13.4 at 112mph with a 2.2 60ft time. Not bad for a wagon but a few traction issues to say the least. Picture links below. www.sromagazine.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=171 www.sromagazine.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=170&size=big Anthony, '71 510 wagon, 91 Toyota Supra Turbo engine (322 rwhp)

I have run Centerforce Dual Friction clutches on 2 engines, an L 28 turbo and a 7m-gte (91 Supra). The pedal is plenty acceptable for the street and I have never had any slipping issues up to 322 rwhp on the dynojet for the Supra. The flywheel from the Nissan did have some grooves in it when I took that motor out, the Toyota flywheel did not after more or less equal mileage on both. The clutch worked fine in both cases, never slipping for what I would consider mild pedal effort. Anthony '71 510 wagon, '91 Toyota Supra Turbo engine (322 rwhp)

I have a Turbosmart dual stage boost controller. Low is set at 11 psi, high 15psi, no boost creep though this could have something to do with the Turbosmart 45mm wastegate I have. Nice products. Wastegate is stainless steel and uses v-band clamps for the flanges which made things alot easier to fabricate plumbing wise. Anthony '71 510 station wagon, 91 Toyota Supra engine (322rwhp)

Wade, Thanks. I fabricated the manifold out of 1/8 inch thick aluminum which doesn't make it very light but did make welding alot easier. I used the stock Toyota flange and about an inch of the runners because of space constraints. I don't think I get as much torque as the stock intake as the runners are so much shorter but the hp is still going up at redline on the dyno graph. --Some day I hope to get some nice shiny paint like your car but I keep upgrading things mechanically--hopefully coming to the end of that soon.--Looks like your conversion is really clean also. I have purchased 2 used 7m-gte engines one from K. Watanabe for 450.00 + 200 shipping and one for 750+ 80 shipping from a place that slips my mind. Prices vary due to supply and demand but you should be able to find one for 750 or less for sure. Put " used Japanese engines" into google.com and you'll find many sources. Much cheaper than local yards in my experience. The harness will be completely chopped. Easier to go with an SDS system especially if you are going to upgrade turbo's etc down the line. Most of the engines come with all the manifolds, turbo etc but double check. Also on the first engine I bought the turbo was fine, on the 2nd it was not. The seller usually only guarentees the engine not the ancillary parts. Anthony '71 Datsun 510 wagon, '91 Toyota Supra Turbo engine (322 rwhp)
