  1. Well these heads came from the factory with dished pistons so Im sure it wont be all doom and gloom
  2. How is that engine of your going Mack, no troubles so far? My 'Maxima' head is on my engine with dishies and the std valves, decided not to go with the flattops. Car is a bit closer to going, so shouldnt be long before I find out how the head fares.
  3. Some of those results sound impressive. I guess that the std ECU is tuned for economy predominantly, and they are only 8 bit at that. So it would make sense that an aftermarket option provide some benefit in terms of power. EDIT: And yes I was thinking of Megasquirt or similar option
  4. Just wondering if anyone has ever put an aftermarket ECU on a not too modified L28 and what the results were ? Although Im sure it may not be the best bang for your buck option, at least its something that can be picked up and moved onto another engine (non L series) when the time comes for an upgrade
  5. But the pistons are different yes (not the materials, but the compression) ?? Would make the world of difference when tuning for big HP.
  6. Just wondering if the measurements given apply to all first gen Z cars, or weather the LCA pivot points could have possibly changed thorugh the years which would infact make those measurements wrong for a lot of the Z's.
  7. Where did you get the throttle bodies from ?
  8. opps...above post was me, and I forgot to attach the map.. err....hang on, cant figure out how to attach... here is the url http://www.ultimate.co.jp/staff.html Really hope you can make it, it will be worthwhile.
  9. The L28 valve springs are different to the Maxima head are they? I have a "Maxima" head as well (although mine is actually a skyline E88 head, but they are one and the same). I might put the 280zx springs back in it before I put it back on, if it is worth my time
  10. Indeed maichor, I see what your saying. Actually the wheels are Simmons (don't know why I thought they were BBS) and came off a zed. Although I'm not sure if the Zed had standard suspension.
  11. That applies for 15" as well and is regardless of offset ?
  12. Hi, I have the oppurtunity to buy some Simmons rims which 8" on the back and 7" on the front. What sort of offset/BS will they have to have so they will clear the suspension and wheel guard ? Cheers Ray
  13. I've got a feeling that the N47 you have (if it is EFI) is actually a late model job with small CC (i.e around 40cc) and small valves. Basically the CC is a cut down P90 (If it is the same as our EFI E88 and from all reports it is).
  14. Just wondering if the AFM units from either the L24E or the S12 (sorry, cant remember the engine code) will fit on an L28E ? Cheers
  15. I've pulled an E88 head from an 1983 L24E engine (skyline). Are these heads any differet from the old E88 head? Im going to put it on my L28 which was an F54/N42 dished piston combination. Is it possible to switch the valves from the N42 into the E88? Also, I bought some flattop L28 pistons, will I be able to use these with the E88 head, or will I have to stick with the dished pistons? I will be running the engine with premium unleaded (about 96 octane rating), but dont want to run over 10.5:1 compression, and want to avoid valves going into pistons! Cheers Ray
  16. They were a pretty weak engine, making no more power than a standard L28. If you have access to L28ET gear, I would stick with it. the L20ET engine was same as any of the L6 engines AFAIK. Except it had a very small bore...
  17. I'm looking at a way I can get a stiffer ride in my 260z without going all out and buying new struts and springs. Im not after amazing handling, just osmething better than stock. Is it possible to section my struts and put in stiffer springs (with standard struts). I actually have access to some cheap Z31 tockico struts...is it possible to adapt these to an early Z (haven't had a chance to look at the Z31 units yet, so I have no idea). ? I'm primarily spending my money on the engine, and for the time being am happy to keep it with standard suspension, unless there is a cheap way to upgrade it to keep me happy until I start saving for all-out suspension upgrades. Cheers
  18. I'm in Brisbane,Australia. Summer is upto 40 degrees (celsius), and it would rarely see below 15 degrees (celsius) in winter. I am planning on having higher compression though, so I might keep it.
  19. haha, thanks SleeperZ. I think maybe that might be a but much for me... I'm actually thinking now of swapping in an RB30E computer. You can program the PROM chip on that, and they are abundant here. Im hoping that the 300zx MAF I have will hook up to it, and also the Ford falcon TB(64mm) I have (from an early 90's 4 Litre falcon, maybe you have similar ones there). It's not switch type like the L28E standard item. Now that I think of it the RB30E ECU could be suprisingly similar to the Z31 88-89. The RB30E is a 3.0 Litre 6 cylinder sold from 88 onwards I think. It has a MAF as well (although smaller than the 300zx, the engines were used in family sedans).
  20. I realize this, but the ECU doesnt know weather it has an door-flap AFM or a hot-wire MAF, all it sees is voltages and resistence. Im not sure exaxtly what sort of outputs the MAF has, nor the 280zx AFM, but it may be possible to run the MAF on the 280zx ECU with slight modifications....who knows.
