  1. I contacted a local shop about dyno-tuning my 76 Z, they wanted to know what do people typically use for tuning on the older Z's? Anyone? I've been searching and I see lot's of standalone options, I'm still not sure which one would be easiest/affordable. Using the stock ECU, what tuning software can be used? I looked at Nistune which sounded fairly simple and effective, but they said the 84 Z31 VG30E/ET was the first model digital ECU they were compatible with. Any ideas/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Thanks guys. You are right Mark, I have to be careful. When he tells me he got a "B" I have to work hard not to be critical (hypocritical in my case) because I know he could do better. I try to be as straight with him as possible. I rely on the old "I want you to always do the best you can" a lot.
  3. My son is a straight A 6th grade student (I know, it's still early), and he's in the advanced math and Literature classes. He gets his math-ability from his mother. As part of the advanced classes they let him take the SAT college placement tests this year and he scored 500 in math and 540 in critical reading. In 2007 college bound seniors (12th graders) averaged Critical reading: 502 Mathematics: 515 I'm really proud of him.
  4. I'm in Wheaton. Not too far from Sweetleaf in Glenn Ellyn (my kid's favorite restaurant is Barone's downtown Glenn Ellyn). Who do you work for Sweetleaf? My Z is still in Iowa City (stored at my parents, about 45 miles from Tannji).
  5. I'm pretty sure my son when he turns 46 and I finally let him have the car (I'll be 75 then, he's 11 now) will have to... fix the turn signal because for some reason it will always stay on wd-40 the gas pedal because it'll probably never be driven over 50 mph he'll probably have to lower the seat as I'll have raised it as I shrunk he'll have to replace the brakes once I start driving with one foot on the gas and one on the brake like my Dad he'll probably have to uninstall the massive mirrors I install so I don't have to turn my head when backing out of parking spaces I'm hoping that when he turns 75 (2 years from now) my Dad will give me the '48 mercury conv. in his garage. Seriously, the occasional wisp of smoke I've seen from behind the steering wheel makes me nervous.
  6. I married a woman with an original 70 Chevelle SS 396. Her father bought it new in the summer of 69 and she's been driving it since High-school. We have video of her as a little girl roller skating up and down the driveway next to it. We originally thought it'd be fun to let one of our kids drive it to high school but with the values the way they are it seems like a bad idea.

  8. 40 minutes to go. I haven't even blinked in an hour. A used car salesman ghillie suit.

  10. My three kids (Jackson, 6; Lucy, 8; Kevin, 11) and I have been taking Karate for almost two years now. We are studying a combination of Tang Soo Doo, Hapkido, and Taekwondo. It has been fun and while the younger two have their up's and downs learning the various katas it is a great feeling when they really step it up. My youngest even cut himself off from playing his gameboy until he graduated for one belt (almost two weeks of no Nin-Ten-Do form) , he really made me proud.
  11. Thanks guys, I contacted the standard transmission guys, we'll see what they say.
  12. I have a broken 4.38 differential (a friend bought it from Arizona Z car in the mid to late 80's) I think it came from an early 80's pick-up, it is stamped 35:8. I had it in my car for one summer of fun. The summer fun ended when a couple of teeth broke off of the smaller cog (one of the small internal rings with 8 teeth). My friend who sold it to me and I put the stock unit back in. Does anyone know if this can be repaired? Where would I get the parts? Does this broken unit have value to anyone? I have been watching for a 3.7 or 3.9 or a LSD that wouldn't break the bank (like everybody else in here I'm sure) I also have a 2nd, stock r200 3.54 unit just hanging out in my garage. Thanks for any input/advice (I searched on broken differential, fix differential and a couple others but I didn't see a parallel thread) -Kirk
