  1. This is pretty good info guys. I didnt think the stocker would have cooled the motor very well. I may have to go to my step dads and try hunting down the original.
  2. Yeah I heard, that sucks man but good for you! I hope it works out for ya. So that means just one LSX Datsun in Arlington again
  3. Worse case you can get a summit rad for $159 all aluminum but I understand your on a budget. Another thing is I checked out autozone.com and they list a standard and heavy duty version. Might wanna check that out as well. Worse case go up and down a few years at the parts store and see what you can find.
  4. Can one of you guys go measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the rocker panel on your Z? I lowered the car down off the jackstands last night and Im in the process of setting up my 4-link and rear suspension but I cant find a happy median between sitting too low and too high. Right now I have it sitting about 7 3/4" from the rocker panel to the ground and that puts the oil pan on the LS1 about 4 1/2" off the ground.
  5. Looks like a stock spider tray and link bars from a 87-up sbc to me. You could just as easily go to wrecking yard and find the same thing for $5 and then drill and tap your block to use it. The only thing I would check is the height of the lifter bores on the block.
  6. Glad to hear. That is a nice ride indeed! <-----Jealous
  7. Looks great, but first thing I would do is ditch the red ricer loom.
  8. I agree but a lot of the die hard old skool guys have argued the point that it isnt a REAL 302 to me more than once. Other than casting numbers I dont see a difference but they all argue a 327 block with a 283 crank doesnt equal 302ci. Well TECHNICALLY the 302 was exactly 302ci either, 301.xx I think.
  9. stay with short stroke and it will rev. Before the older guys start flaming I KNOW its not a real 302 but I would still like to build a 327block/283 crank version of the 302 and see what it does. Probably wouldnt make a whole lotta power but Im sure a lil boost could fix that problem. O yeah other things to keep in mind when wanting a high rev motor are solid cam/lifters, maybe a rev kit to keep the lifters in their place, lightweight reciprocating assembly and make sure it is balanced.
  10. I just tell them its my bastard car
  11. So the corvette would be classified as a sports car huh? Been in production since '56 to present day. I bet it outsold the datsuns LOL, I will agree with bjhines on most of that though but I refuse to say one car is the best hands down. If your into 4 and 6 cylinder imports then you'll have your fav, if your into V8's then youll have that fav. I just wanted to clear up the mustang and f-body post I saw.
  12. How much money you got? I dont know of any OEM 5 speed that would handle the tourqe that a 460 can produce. Most of the ford 5 speeds crumble at the tourqe of a 302 without some major help, like gforce innards.
  13. Thats a funny statement. First off the Mustang has been kicking strong since 1964 (with the exception of the mustang II days, lol), can we say the same for the Z? As sad as it is, as long as the 16 year old schoolgirls keep buying the stangs they will be one of the hottest selling sportscars in the states, hands down. The camaro and firebird have been dead since 2002 which was the last year for production. Where the hell have you been? GM has already shown off the new camaro concept in an effort to gauge the publics feeling on it. If its a strong feeling then they will produce it but they have already announced that the firebird/trans am name is dead.
  14. yeah I know it wasnt near clean enough. That was my bad. usually Ill sand down the edges before I weld. I was going to to go all the way to the TC bracket but I only had this length of 2x3 and what started out as a "ill just cut this thing up and make a pattern for when I get more 2x3" turned into the real thing. I plan on a 12 point cage anyway so it will also tie the front frame into the rest of it using two bars through the firewall.
  15. Just got done doing my driverside subframe connector. Just wanted your thoughts on how it turned out. The welds were not my best by far as I was having issues with my welder which turned out to be a bad tip. Swapped it out and was messing with the tension on the wire a lil. Anyway I was really sweating these things but I THINK they turned out ok.
  16. carb'd LS1 with a powerglide and 4k stall!!! Oh wait that is my combo, lol. If your on a budget a decent lil 383 would be cool, if you got a lil more money to play with then I suggest a LSX based motor.
  17. all you need is a alternator bracket and a tensioner from a f-body. Our cars dont have power steering and I doubt your gonna run A/C. Oil pan will be a must Im pretty sure though. Here is a pic of mine so you get an idea Mike............. the air cleaner wont be on there for long, just keeping crap outta my motor. Anyway both orange pieces on the front is all you need.
  18. if this stuff is legit the most you could ask for is getting the air temp to ambient right? I would LOVE to have this stuff in a air-2-water cooler
  19. Yep I have heard some good stuff about Maaco as well as long as you tell them what you want and explain your willing to pay for it. On the flip side I had a buddy that took a '79 mustang to them to get the $299 job. It was a track car so perfection wasnt needed or expected. He pulled all the lights, door handles, etc out and did a lil body work here and there. He got it back found a bunch of runs and even a spot they missed with color. Took it back and they redid it for free. Fast foward 2 more re-do's he finally got a real good paint job and the manager apologized for all teh trouble. He didnt really care but when he pointed it out the manager offered to re-do it. I wouldnt expect that from all the stores but this manager went the extra mile.
  20. Yeah like I said the 6.0 is heavier than a regular LS1 BUT it makes up for it with the ability to bore the hell out of it and run more cubes etc. Also its stronger than a regular LS1 block and will accept any LS1 part (heads, intakes, crank/rods, etc etc). Only downfall is you will have to order a install kit from JCI to install it. But it is a step in the right direction for sure! Good luck with it.
