Did someone say 85 octane?? We don't have it around here. Standard gas is 87, 89, 91 and 93. We no longer have Sunoco Ultra 94 in my area. No E-85 either. I work for the state, and they are the only ones to have E-85 for fleet use. Today's price of 87 - $2.75 91 $2.99 at the local 7 Eleven

then you find the previous owner's information, and look him or her up. Either by anywho.com or zabasearch.com or something of that nature, and talk to them to see what they are doing with the car. $200 worth of parts is not worth court fees and attorney costs, not to mention a record. I understand your situation but look at it long term and you'll see.

Want to get arrested? Go there at night. Otherwise, take the plate number to DMV and run a search. I know that if I saw someone stripping my car, I'd be out there with my .45 in seconds. Be safe.

I have a similar paint scheme on my car. Black with Silver stripes. Check my posts and you can see some pics.

should you buy a custom designed cam?
331CI 280z replied to grumpyvette's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
My local machine shop, Eastwood Auto Machine has had a few bad cams from Comp lately. They were all flat tappet, and they sent the cams to Comp for analysis and were awaiting the results the last I spoke with them. They thought that Comp may have changed the material formulation in their flat tappets. -

Check with your local consumer protection department. They are usually located in the blue pages of the phone book. it will be under the direction of weights and measures or standards. I work for the Consumer Protection Dept. in CT and octane is only checked if there is a complaint.

Overtightening the alternator belt also induces additional stress on the bearings and is a primary cause of alternator failure.

why change your ignition advance curve..
331CI 280z replied to grumpyvette's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Thanks. I'll try some degree chips, starting small. I don't know how pronounced the change will be. I realize that a dyno is probably best, but I'll have to road tune for now. -

Grumpy, I have a complete MSD setup, distributor, coil, 6AL box and timing retard for startup and above 4,000 rpm. Can you briefly discuss advantages of retarding the timing over 4,000 rpm for more top end power? I have not used the retard yet. I currently have a 0 degree chip installed. I know that it is useful for NOS, but I am running all motor. It has helped me on startup (I also installed a Ford solenoid and high torque starter). I no longer have hot start problems. The part number of the controller is MSD-8982. I'm not really sure where to start for tuning the spark retard on the top end. I've dialed in the advance curve, and it made a substantial difference. Thanks Ian -
It's a 327 bored .030 to make 331 ci. T-5 trans, 4.11 LSD rear, autometer speedo and tach, shaved rear bumper, early model front bumper, etc...

I did the cruisin on Main Street and was parked near Carter Chevrolet, next to my friend with the AMX, and Brad's Yellow AAR 'Cuda. You should try to get out to Mark's on a Monday night. There are tons of cars. It's not that long of a ride. I'm also a regular at the Tri Town Cruizers cruise night in Vernon at golf land on Friday nights. It starts 04/28. Bolton is right down the road, and I drive through it daily to get to I384.

I've been doing more shows. Two of the photos are from the Mark's Auto Parts cruise night in Granby CT. My car is on the flyer for the cruise night in 2 spots... I'll be doing more shows this year. Where are you from? I joined ZCCNE, and will probably be doing a few shows with them as well. Ian

Which Clutch For T5 W/450-500#Ft. Torque???
331CI 280z replied to Mikelly's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Pete, I am considering junking my T5 for a tremec. How notchy is your trans? My T5 is not holding up, and I have to be gentle with 2nd gear shifts. I'm just looking for your input. I've run a Centerforce DF clutch with no problems but I'm not at your horsepower level yet. I spoke with a friend who has a '68 Lemans with a 468 Butler Pontiac in it, and he recommended Hayes 6 puck clutches. He stated that the clutch is either in or out, which can make it a bit difficult in traffic, but it has held up well in his car that runs 10.80 on the motor. Ian -

Pete, You should probably junk that nodular flywheel and go with a billet flywheel for safety reasons. My friend Ed had a flywheel let go in his AMX last summer and it was not pretty. Let's just say that he had an aluminum bellhousing and no scatter shield, and the floor was modified by the flywheel coming apart. Just a thought. They're $230 from Summit and cheap insurance. -
You should be ok for a straight line, but 3.36 gearing will slow you down for a quarter mile, not improve times.

Hmmmmm. My switch wouldn't click any more. You can try blackdragon.com or e-bay. If that doesn't work, do a search and there are quite a few Z graveyards that specialize in parting out cars for a used one. Hope this helps.

My multi-function high beam switch decided to let go, when I did the urethane steering coupler. The only fix is to replace it. Does the switch still click when you pull back on it?

Where did you buy the wheels? Expensive?
