Soooo, when did the membership organize itself, elect a spokesman to rally for a "petition" set up as a "vote" on the forum to which this so called "petition" is for, and to what point and purpose does this "petition with a vote" serve vs. just starting a thread requesting the option to allow members to edit their build threads? Smell what I'm stepping in?
  2. Nothing to update on the build itself, yet, other than I wanted to share an LSx swappers gold mine with you all. Nook & Tranny has wonderful page set up with some great tech and specs info on the various LSx engines an accessories for those of us swapping the LSx into non GM vehicles. Specs page lists the differences in intake’s heads, throttle bodies, oil pans, water pumps, accy drives, balancers, etc. They sell LSx specific parts such as accy drives, water pumps etc. Ordered more than few parts from them, including water pump, lots of gaskets, hardware, etc, customer service is first rate.   3. Oh man... How DARE you publicly mention anything that might enhance this forum! The nerve... You are SOOoooo banned! :lmao: Just kidding. Good idea actually. Not sure if we will be able to make it happen, but we will look into it. I think we had this discussion right after the forum update earlier this year and found it wasn't doable at the time. In the mean time, if you have a specific post/thread anywhere in the forum that you need to edit/modify, etc, contact one of the staff via PM with a link to the post/thread, and include exactly what you want edited/posted in that post. Rewrite the entire post if you wish, be sure to include all the tags etc and we will just cut and paste your edit into the old post. If your edit is for the middle of an ongoing thread, be sure to make the edit so that it does not disrupt he conversational flow of the discussion. Also, don't bombard us with a bunch of little petty edits. We do this for free, for your you guys, and our work load here already takes away from our families. So for small spelling errors, etc, please don't bother. Now where did I put my BAN button?!?!?
  4. That would be a temporary fix, quick and easy to install, will get you down the road, just not something to count on long term. Don't forget to thoroughly clean the machined bore in the block for the core plug to get a good seal. Usually they are quite gunked up and corroded. If you have access to air and a die grinder, or even a drill motor, these flapper wheels work quite well. 1"-1 1/4" diameter.

Witness mark the dial "before" you move it, so that after you do make adjustments you have a datum/reference point to go back to if things go hay wire such as loosing grip on the wheel and it freewheels loose or you just need to go back to OE settings for whatever reason. Outside of that, best of luck, trial and error tuning...
  6. Major bummer sorry to hear this. If one of the "core" plugs has a pin hole and is leaking, rest assured the rest are about to go as well, i.e. rusted through! If this is a temporary interim power-plant, you know what to expect but if this is your daily driver and you are depending on it for transportation, i.e. not just a weekend toy, you probably should replace them all as it is only a matter of time before the rest start to leak. The sides of the block are 35 mm, front is 40 mm, rear is 50 mm. The "soft" plug under the timing chain will probably be the last one to start leaking due to its more consistent environment, but I would not trust that. Hope that helps, Paul

Using an SBC short block I literally just finished building for my father, (was going to be my supercharged SBC 350 for a ’75 S-30 that was mothballed, I ended up giving it to my father who is gong to use it in his ’77 Chev short-wide, adding a single Turbo…) I rotated the crank through 360 degrees, in the direction of rotation while running, took pics at each 90 degree interval, here are the cylinders that arrive at TDC, Drivers bank in RED, Passenger bank in BLUE; #1 @ TDC 1-6 CW 90 deg. 5-8 CW 180 deg 7-4 CW 270 deg 3-2 Well, a L-R-L-R-L-R-L-R firing pattern is physically impossible to achieve with the standard dual plane crank in a ’90 degree V-8. Just as the linked site stated, 2 cylinders of the same bank will fire after the other. For example, this firing order, 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3-1-8-...

  12. I don't know anything about Lucas oil modifier. The Diesel oils seems to be good oil.

    The biggest issue I have seen regarding engine oils is the decline of Zinc in the oils and the destruction of cam lobes from that. There are quite a few web sites discussing this issue and even some through independent testing taking place as to which motor oils that are claiming to have adequate ZINC, i.e. which ones actually do and do NOT have adequate Zinc for flat tappet cams.

  13. On one of my threads about the problem i was having after adding lucas, someone recommended using 15w-40 diesel oil because of higher friction modifiers, would you second that recommendation?

  15. Ok, so Last Saturday Phlebmaster came over to continue scrapping out our parts car behind the shop, (thank you Aaron, behind the shop looks AWESOME!), Gary Moisant stopped by as did Mongo510. Mongo being the uber nice guy he is gave myself and RTz a jar of his home made pepper Jam, (bless his heart!) Tonight being a bit hungry I toasted half of a sour dough muffin. Sourdough muffin and home made Jam should be a nice snack! Ah mah gawd! First bites was AWESOME! Then the burn started! Flavor was so good, I couldn’t stop eating it, even though my mouth was quite literally on fire, it was just so darn good! Temperature of this Jam is high enough to run a gasoline engine! Real test comes tomorrow! Good stuff John, thank you. A bit HOT, but VERY good!
  16. Not sure if you are looking at a 5.3L or 4.8L? This article helped me immensely. If the engine is assembled, about the only way to find out is to remove the spark plugs, find a piston at TDC and using a flashlight and a keen eye and suitable probes, look and feel across the piston top for the edges of a dish as pictured below.   18. Off the showroom floor published 0-60 times of cars in that era are going to be plus/minus at least whole second or so due to variances in manufacturing and state of tune. Also, at the age these are now and its parts, not too mention God only knows what state of tune or fine tune the previous owners did or not give it, 0-60 MPH times could be as good as 6.5 seconds, (HIGHLY unlikely), up to 12+ seconds. If the car is running decent, probably in the 7.5-10 second range. The 5 speed option was NOT rare! It is not uncommon to find a '78 car with a factory 5 speed. The 5 speed became an option in '77. Also, there is only 1 version of the L28E offered in ALL of the US market 280-Z cars from 1975 through 1978, (79 and 80 ZX had the same block/head as the ’77-’78 Z). As such, your '78 280-Z is not some special hot rod edition. The only rear '78 was the black Pearl, and that was just paint code, option! The data tag in the engine bay on ALL S30 280-Z cars from 1975 through 1978 say 170 HP even though they actually only produced approx 150 HP. You may want to verify your Z car info before posting them as fact. And I know I have busted your chops about your lazy pinky finger. No more warnings! That applies to you too!   19. Ahh.. .Ok. Now I understand. Hmmm... Need to ponder this a bit more, visualizing the dual plane piston movement through 720 degrees of crankshaft rotation... Off the top of my head, I can't see why not. 2 pistons always come to TDC at the same time regardless if it is single plane or dual plane V-8 crankshaft. With a single plane crank, it happens to be 2 pistons of one bank. With a dual plane crank it happens to be 2 pistons of opposing banks, (one in each bank). So with a dual plane crank, Every 90 degrees a piston is coming to TDC on each bank, which means that one is at the top of exhaust stroke while the other is at the top of commencing the firing stroke. Regardless, it initially seems like your idea of L-R-L-R-L-R firing sequence could be done with dual plane crank using revised firing order.
