Doing a little more research for possibly building a one-off 180 degree crankshaft in the 1.75”-2.25” stroke range as mentioned a few times earlier in this thread, for either the SBF or SBC. The SBF is attractive with its short deck height, light weight, though its uber thin main webs is a concern. The SBC would be less expensive overall and is a bolt in for the S-30 and I already have a complete JTR S-30 SBC kit Building one of these cranks for the VH45DE in that same stroke range is VERY attractive and has been discussed, though it would be more of a project. At any rate, here s the info I uncovered this morning… This quote from GM Racings IRL page pertaining to the exhaust note fo the Single plane/Flat plane/180 degree, V-8 crankshaft sums up the premise of this thread pretty well, “exotic sound!” “Courtesy of GM.com/RacingDivision…” Chevy Indy 3.5L V-8, 180 degree crankshaft, 2.17” (55.1mm) stroke. (note partial counterweight design in the INDY cranks vs the road going Ferrari crank…) Oldsmobile Aurora Indy V-8; Ferrari 355 fully counterweighted crankshaft... Stumbled on this odd duck ‘60’s INDY engine. A Turbo charged Rambler straight 6. Thought you might enjoy it as well. There is something cool about using OE production parts, (block, crank, reground OE cam, rockers, head), in one of the top echelons of motorsports... Found this regarding the Ferrari 208 GT4, with its 2.0 V-8. According to WikiPedia, it is the smallest displacement production road going V-8 at 1991cc’s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrari_GT4#208_GT4 Courtesy of WikiPedia

What Tires Do You Run on the Street?
BRAAP replied to JustinOlson's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Bang for the buck, I am sold on the Kumho Ecsta MX tires. I’m running the 225 50 ZR 16†on my Z-32. Performance wise they are comparable with the BF-Goodrich g-Force T/A KD, and in the 275/40ZR-17â€, approx $100 ea. less expensive. Straight-line traction is incredible, lateral grip impressive, road noise is quite low, break-away at the limit is forgiving, no surprises when traction limit is exceeded. Wet traction is also very impressive. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Kumho&tireModel=Ecsta+MX -
Ah bummer. Any chance you can get both tickets dropped by showing up at court with a receipt for exhaust work and with your front plate mounted up front, (maybe just a picture?)

Basic sentence structure! Use it or don't post... Courtesy of the Internet If you can “SHIFT” your car, then why is it so difficult for many of you to “SHIFT” the beginning of your sentences? There is no clutch pedal under the keyboard to get your Gumby pants wadded up around. (Speaking of which, pull up your friggin pants! We’re tired of looking at your Hannah Montana boxers!) The pressure required to depress the “SHIFT” key on most computer keyboards is so minuscule I promise it wont cause your pinky ring to slip and pinch your pinky knuckle. Here is the real kicker. Using your shift key shows the rest of the world that you actually care about and respect the community in which you are communicating. As such, that community will generally treat you as an adult instead of a punk-ass-idiot. If you blatantly don’t use your shift key or post using IM shortcuts, don’t be surprised if you find your posting privileges suspended. Courtesy of WikiPedia Courtesy of your Middle-School Teacher

1) ALL Z-32 differentials are the short nose style. N/A is R-200, TT is R-230, both are short nose! All S-30, S-130 and Z-31 diffs are long nose. 2) The Short nose diffs are NOT a direct bolt-in for the long nose. Input flange and output flanges are different, as well as all the mounting points. 3) Fabricating new diff mount as well as altering the driveline and different output shafts and adapters to get the output shafts connected to the wheels is required to get a short nose diff in car that used to have a long nose diff. This has been covered in depth on this forum. Here are a few links; These two threads cover ALL the Datsun/Nissan differentials, with pictures, what they are, what cars they came in and during what years. Read them both ALL the way through, (lengthy, but VERY good info.) http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=103512 http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=114798 This thread covers more specific details regarding the short nose diff; http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=131008 This thread covers the details and fabrication needed to install a short nose diff in a Z car that originally came with the long nose diff; http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=97369 This thread coves various things such as difference in the short vs long nose, parts need to install a short nose in along nose car, etc; http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=108010 And don’t forget to use the search feature. Hope that helps and good luck, Paul

As mentioned already, scrutinize for broken/collapsed ring lands AND collapsed/cracked/broken piston skirts, as well as galling in the piston pin bores and out-of-round pin bores. If all is good, those pistons would be fine for a typical "stock" overhaul, otherwise they make for "ok" ashtrays or hardware containers.

Dual 2 1/2" exhaust for an L-6?.... Is it over 5 lters displacement?
-
Absolutely. If you don't need the shorter stem seal and 100,000-150,000 miles between overhauls is acceptable, I prefer the OE style seals. How many of us that "drive" our cars spiritedly actually put more than 100,000 miles on the engine before it gets torn down again for rebuild/upgrades?

Heads up guys, gals, you to Larry… If your signature picture is noticeably larger than 500 x 100, it will be deleted.

That seems pretty thin… I recall some time back some discussion regarding the F-54 block having thinner cylinder walls than the N-42 blocks dispelling the F-54 block as the “superior†block for extreme performance use. I could be remembering that discussion wrong. I was not able to find those discussions in a quick search…

On 3rd motor NEED HELP BAD!!!!!!!!
BRAAP replied to imjdoggie's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
The black gunk is typical on high mileage engines, and that wont cause your valves to just start sticking. Define "valves sticking" for us, i.e. what the valve is actually doing that makes you think it is sticking? Just hearing a knocking sound does not automatically qualify stuck valves. We need a LOT more specifics as what you are calling stuck valves as it could really be any one or two of a hundred other issues that are typical of old engines that have sat for a while. I'll be honest here. 3 motors, and all three are sticking valves? Not likely. you have a better chance of winning the lottery than actually having 3 engines in a row that stick valves, (unless each head is being rebuilt by the same shop/person). -

Hmmmm. Doesn't make sense. Are you positive it is sticking valves? Stuck valves is not a common issue from bad gas. We need more info. Are these fresh rebuilds, junk yard motors, what maintenace, etc. Is this EFI carb etc? -
Thank you for pointing out the conflicting info, (signature edit in CP vs the rules and guidelines). As stated by moderator Warren, in post #25 above, (quoted below), The 500x100 limit in our CP signature edit is the maximum allowable size. I’m sure if a signature picture is a couple pixels larger, no one will take issue, but if your signature pic is obviously too large, we will drop the hammer.

Uuuuuhhhhh yeup! L-24E, US market '77-'84 Datsun/Nissan 810/Maxima. Visually the same as the L-28E. Sorry I do not know the L-24E injector flow rates. Just a note for those that may be interested, I do know that the AFM from the L-24E is physically the same size as the L-28 AFM, but has a much different resistance curve that can NOT be dialed in to work on the L-28.

Yeup. Time to thin the herd. Who's first?

Was surfing google for late '80's sports car racing and ran across this video from 1990, Portland international Raceway, Nissan GTP car, testing/qualifying, approx 60 second lap! Here is a nice IMSA GTP video collage with some incredible wrecks, highlighting the Nissan GTP-ZX Turbo... and period perfect music too!!! NISSAN ZX ad using the GTP-ZX Turbo... And this 1990 GTP-ZX Turbo...

She is a good sport. Now wouldn't it be entertaining to see her reaction sitting next to him at his "desk" back in the late '80's while chasing down Nigell Mansell, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna?... Click ME for a video of Patrese's "desk job" in the late '80's.
