  1. Yep. Wouldnt have been the first to do so either. Look up ZROSSA in the gallery. made a complete front nose for mine....and rear as well. Still havent finish the bloody thing! Douglas
  2. I love BBS wheels. I have been looking for a set for my 635 for a while but theyare very expensive here. Anyway, Anything will go with white. I think a lot will depend on the final finish of your Z. If you have a stock look with crome bumpers and so forth i thing BBS gold would be the best look. I think I would choose BBS gold no mater what. If you have color coded bumper and maybe a bit of extra fiberglass added on maybe go with a wicked bright red. Its up to you! Cheers, Douglas
  3. What John said! When I did the cage for my corolla we hole sawed the floor to lower the tacked up cage into so we could get to the top. The floor/chassis mounts were the last thing made so that we could push the cage as close as possable to the roof. Cheers Douglas
  4. I have been scrounging around New Zealand for months looking for the finial piece needed to finish the rear suspension on my Zed. With no Joy. I posted a help notice on Hybris Z , and John (again) came to my rescue. Thanks you very much. The suspension is in and the car is now on its own feet again after 8 years! I have a small winery and vineyard. It would seem this busness is full of people who dont pay bills, lie, promise things they cant achieve and grumpy grape growers. Its a real pleasure and treat to deal with people that have the same honest and do what you say your going to do values that I have! You made my month John! Presents coming in June! Cheers, Douglas
  5. That the one John. Thanks very much!!!!! I will be bringing a few cases with me....Have a few sales calls to do on the way. Cheers, Douglas
  6. Howdy John, Actually If you send them them I can put the car on the ground and get started on the engine. I will call later today or tomorrrow with a c/card # no. so yout not out of pocket. I will bring a bottle of Tempranillo. Its delicious, and you wont see much of it in California. Cheers, Douglas
  7. Howdy John, That can be arranged! My wife and kids and I are coming to US of A. Beware! We will be in San Dieago in late June and then trecking cross country to Atlanta visiting family along the way. I could think of nothing better to hone my driving skills then driving up 400 in a 27 foot camper with the steering wheel on the wrong side! Cheers, Douglas
  8. Just cut and reweld the standard ones. Douglas
  9. Howdy all, I have lost the bracket that attaches the rear wish bone to the sub frame on mt 260z. Its the one closest to the mustach bar. Once i get this part then the car is a roller again ( been 8 years). Can any one help me out? I can find one in this part of the world. Cheers, Douglas
  10. Neet car,,,,But.....You would think that with all the work thats gone into it they would have put a usfull cage in it. That one wouldnt pass any regs in New Zealand and by what i have read here would fail in the US, Aussie and Europe. Douglas
  11. Howdy all, As much as I like multi valved ali engines, there seems to be greater bang for the buck with some of the G.M. push rod engines. I am building a turbo ecotec engine for one of my toys. While doing research for that I came across the G.M. "high value" engine. Its a 60 degrre v6 at almost 4.0 lts and makes nice power in stock form. Its also light and importantly...compact. If we had those down in this part of the world i would be playing with it. It seems to make similar H.P to the smaler multi valves with greater TQ due to being larger. They say the heads ar similar to the ls v8 family so there is lots of room for development.Dont know about rear wheel drive trans for it. Seeing its based on the old 2.8v6 maybe you can use a trans from one of those. Cheers, Douglas
  12. We talked about his a few years ago. I was thinking along the lines of not a full backbone chassis but more like the top half of one tied into the existing body. I was looking for ways to make the zed stiffer fron the front strut mounts to the rear strut mounts with out having an intrusive cage. In the end I desided I wanted to targa the car so I needed a cage anyway. Other cars with backbones....Dodge viper, most lotus's and Marcos.. Cheers, Douglas

    r200 axle Q

Thanks! I will give it another try next time I am in the shed. Douglas

    r200 axle Q

Howdy Guys, I have actually started to put the old girl back together now. Big moment after 8 years of rust removal and so forth! my car has a r200 that was installed by the previous owner. I am having a bit of trouble geting the axles back in......they slid out fine. Is there any special technique needed? Do I have to get out the big hammer? Do you have to compress the snap ring? Cheers, Douglas
  15. Cheers John! Its raining today so I might be able to sneak out of the winery and get this fabed up sooner then I thought. Welded up the rear coilovers yesterday....progress in baby steps! Douglas
  16. Ross, The car has a full cage and will be used for hill climbs and targa type events. John c. do you have a photo? I didnt quite follow the discription. Do people weld up the upright part to the suspension mount part? That might help with lateral movement as well. Douglas Hang on ....read it again....makes sence now.. The mount goes between the mo. bar and chassis. The car has poly mounts all around so I should be good to go.
  17. Howdy all, I have finally been putting my Z back together after a couple of years of playing around with old Bmw's and audi's. The suspension part of this build has been a bit long and draged out but the front is now in and I now have all the rear apart for new bushs and repainting. I hadnt really looked at the rear untill now but I have got to say that I really dont like the way the factoty did it. The rear of the diff is mounted via the mo. Bar which seems to be made out of spring steel and looks as though the diff can move around a bit. The rear mounts for the control arms is also flimsy as hell and looks like movement here will give toe in and out with movement. I had a bit of a search and only found one set up where someone had altered the mounts with some diaganals to the mo. bar mounts. Has any one else adressed these issuies? Ideally I would like to see some lateral and fore or aft location of the rear mounts. I would also consider welding the mo bar to the mounts but I suspect this would add a lot of harshness to the drive train. What about making the mo. bar straonger with some gussets to prevent for and aft movement. This could be as easy a welding a strip at the top that joins the circular mounts together. Add another one to the bottom and it shouldnt move around much at all. Look forward to your ideas! Cheers, Douglas
  18. I would go for a v6 turbo of some sort. I seem to have developed a fasination for VR6 vw engines lately. One out of a r32 with boost would be a lot of fun and they sound quite wicked. You can mount them north south with the right bell housing....might even get it to mate up to a 944 transaxel. I guess the only other north west mounted v6's in europe come from merc's. Dont know much about them but a turbo would sure wake it up! Douglas
  19. Hi Guys, The one we are playing with is an earlyer 4.2. Not Fsi. Had a bit of a play around with it on Sunday. Becuase the car is right hand drive the throttle body runs into the brake booster. Mike, Whose car it is, Works at a place that specilizes in cnc cutting so he is making up plates so that we can mount 2 pairs of toyota quad throttle boddies onto it. This is turning into a interesting project. As for transmissions, Have a look at any aplication where the audi 5 cylinder drove the rear wheels. i think a lot of the VW vans were like this( we dont see them in this part of the world...so not sure). I belive there was also a time when Volvo used the five cylinder VW/Audi desiel in one of there RWD cars. Thats worth looking further into as well. Cheers, Douglas
  20. I havent been playing with my z much lately. Bought an original Quattro and have been getting that in good working order. During this proces I have meet a talented audi guru who is putting one of these engines in a early audi 90 chassis. Going to use a vems ecu to run it. I have helping out when I get the chance. I think its a cool engine.Light and not very large. I am pretty sure you could adapt just about any trans to it. They sound wicked for sure! Douglas
  21. A couple of thoughts...... A spoiler has been proven to improve the areo profile of the s30, it reduces lift and improves the Cd as well. You could use a wing as well, but it would depend where you put it. Up high and above the spoiler at you could get a gain, down low to drive a diffuser it could be detrimental. Most of the aero improvment discused will only work if the car is low......really low! We are talking 2 to 3 inchs of the ground. Will your suspension work at that ride height? I was watching Bathurst last weekend (Aussie Taxi Racing)and was wondering about the way that they cut the area out behind the front tire. Under braking it looks as though they are trying to get maximum downforce by driving the air out of the wheel well. As far as I can tell they lose it(downforcce) when they get off the brakes, mind you, they look very soft as well. So where does my gewurztraminer induced rambeling lead........ down force needs a super stiff very low set up that will more then likely be out side what the chassis is set up to handel. I did some things on my zed to help in this area but I doubt I cant tell the differance. The rear is cut out and molded into the tank, the back muffler will be the same shape as the petrol tank "diffuser", the radiator is ducted and vents into the low pressure area in the hood. I still drive on the road. The lowest part of the spoiler is about 4" above road level. For track and rally work I will make a flexable/removable spliter and run this as close to the ground as possable. Dont forget, If you cant tidey up the air flow under the car......dont let the air in! On to the Viognier..... Douglas
  22. E30's are pretty cool. I have found when playing with my bmw that suspension parts are much less expensive with the datsun. Same with engine parts. The Datsun also has a more easily adjustable/tuneable suspension lay out. Its major pain in the butt to set up the trailing arms on the bmw and its still always a compromise. Like wise for the front. The datsun is also reguarded as a classic car outside the usa. The e30 in this part of the world seems to be driven by fellas with there hats on backwards and rotary engines in them... I will stick with the datto! Douglas
  23. I think It will look cool. Dont cut away the center if you can get away with it. Just make sure that all the air is actually going through the radiator and not around it. You will nee to modify the hood hinges so it doesnt tilt forward. Have a look in my photo album for my version. Cheers, Douglas
  24. I dont know what the hell you all are talking about but to me.....Its tomb stone. What do you get below a tomb stone.........A DIRTY HOLE! D
  25. Have look in my photo album on this site. I havent done much more with it but its a similar concept to what you are looking at. I have made it so its flush with the fuel tank. I realy think it only lets air out a bit better, maybe integrates it better into the air stream behind the car as well but like john said, it wont produce downforce. I need to get back into the zed. So close but yet so far!!!!! Douglas
