    MIVEC ZX

Howdy KiwiZ, So Is the 1.8lt v6? They do sound pretty cool but those zx's are heavy bastards! I would want at least 250hp to have a bit of fun, and I would want it pretty low down in the rev range. Might save you a whole lot of grief to choose a different engine. Maybe a v6 out of one of the jap utes and then turbo it. The zx I had was getting draged off at the lights buy telstars and there like untill the boost kicked in.....and that was with 2.8lts. Douglas
  2. ZROSSA, stumbled across your picture of your front end and was wondering if you had finished it and had any more pictures of her on the road.

  3. Have a look here, http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=159424 Cheers, Douglas
  4. Zeeboost, The window are not extended at all. I had to remake the back half of the roof due to rust so I removed the driprails and slightly altered the raduis were the roof meets the hatch. That in its self made a big difference. The window "extension" wil be painted in dark grey or black. This color will be used on all the window crome and on all the surfaces sarounding the windows. You see this done on a lot of modern cars to lessen the impact of chunky a,b and c pillars that modern safety regs bestowed apon us. Mike, Will send a message shortly....... Untill then.... http://www.hawkesridge.co.nz There is a list of retailers there and you can see what we do! Cheers, Douglas
  5. Thanks Guys! That helps the motivation! Its powered by a 383 sbc that makes 515 hp at the crank. Should be fun! I would have always liked a 2 seater but they are rare and expensive in this part of the world. I do like the way it has turned out. Its interesting how a couple of tricks with paint can transform the look of the car. Now that the suspensions sorted i really have no reason not to paint it and put it back together. I have spent the last couple of years building my winery and now seem to spend all my time selling wine so I might actually have to pay someone else to do it......... That hurts! Douglas
  6. Howdy all. Progress has been slow however I have finally put together my custom hub, and front and rear disk set up. This had been designed to allow me to legally run Cobra R mags in New Zealand. The max spacer we are allowed to run on the road and race track is 25mm. I needed more for the front, hence the hubs. I have added some photos to my gallery. Sorry about the quality. Think there is something on the lens. The front is 30mm lower then the rear in these shots. I will probably run it about 15 mm higher on the road. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=25676 I think its looking pretty good for a 2+2. Off for a Vino! Cheers, Douglas
  7. Yep.......Thats out there! What about a 4 cylinder turbo deisel. From a bmw or maybe a jap pickup/ute. It would save you having to make adapters. I also like the idea of big displacement 4 cylinder from the jap toyota trucks 3.0 lts., easy 200hp and low rev torque for daily driving. Then there is always the supercharged 4age from toyota, I blew away many a v8 in my wifes gen 1 mr2 with minimal mods. These can be easily converted to rwd and turboed to make silly power. They have very good fuel economy when you keep your foot out of it. Cheers, Douglas
  8. I have a small winery. We use cuastic all the time to clean the stainless tanks. We just nuetralise it with citric acid untill we get a pH between 6 and 8 and irrigate the olives with it. Douglas
  9. Toni, we seem to be heading along a similar path http://album.hybridz.org/member.php?uid=8086&protype=1 Nice work. I Just dont seem to get the time to work on mine. I will post some new photos when i get the front coil overs on. Just need to pick up some bearings. I just want to get the wheels on for a trial fit then its final body prep and off to paint. Actually not a hell of a lot left to do. Douglas
  10. Not going to be much help to you mate but, I to would like to find out if there are more resourses for learning about machining out there. I bought a big mitchell lathe 2 months ago and really have know idea what to do with it! Douglas
  11. Very nice job. It wouldnt pass regs here though. Must have a diaginal and must not extend past the rear wheel center line. I would have thought you would have similar regs? Douglas
  12. Guys, This is going to depend on what spring length he uses. I got ground controls from techno toy and the threaded section is 4 inchs long and I have 8 inch springs. In my case the coller needs to be 4 inchs below the top of the strut in the rear (Strut is also sectioned 40 ml). Havent done the fronts yet. Douglas
  13. Is that earlyer pistons in a late modle head? i would try to kkep the clearence as tight as possable to enhance squish. Douglas
  14. I think they were in range rovers as well. Maybe the had a manual?....Hang on .......Aston martin used a version of it also. They definatly had a manual trans for it....going to be an expensive ZED! Douglas
  15. We got these ugly little buggers as used imports from japan. Its called a ford laser lynx and is basicly a mazda 323 underneath. http://www.ausmicro.com/forum/vbpicgallery.php?do=big&p=303 I alway did think that the head lamps would work well will a z. I was going to use the front turn signals on the front end I fabricated but theywere expensive to buy and not that easy to do. Douglas
  16. Its not a daily drive but is could be. I bought a 1979 635csi about 9 months ago. I love it! 5 speed dog leg gear box, early m90(wider bore and shorter stroke then the later big six's) slighly lowered, and bigish feet. I have a turbo for it siting on my desk and a whole bunch of suspension mods planed in the future. I wont start playing with it untill the zeds finished though. Douglas
  17. The buick/rover is one of the lightest v8s ever made. Lighter then a lot of 4 cylinders. The heads are not that flash, make a bit of torque but not much hp. The later rover blocks are a much better place to start. I think they have 4 bolt mains and so forth. Douglas
  18. Why not just make the pan out of glass and then bond it. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=6311&limit=views Easy to do, find a flat surface lay up some glass. Bit of structural foam and then glassover it again. This angle is the top of the pan as seen from the engine bay. Douglas
  19. Howdy Zeth, I bought the car like this. The bell housing is a aussie one from a company called castlemaine rod shop. I had a local engineer set it up with a hydrualic through out set up and a fancy clutch plate as the original was pretty ugly. Have yet to put it to the test.

  20. Hi my names Zeth I was reading one of your old post about running the w55 supra 5 speed behind a sbc. If you don't mind I was wondering how the clutch and bellhousing is set up or what parts I would need for a swap thanks in advance zeth

  21. Howdy all. Well we finaly had a rainy day on the vineyard and i had an excuse to work on the 2+2. I was setting up the suspension and ran into a couple of issuies. I have iluminas for a 240z. They fit the front with no mods whatso ever, However in the rear the seem to be coming up about 35 ml to short to fit in the housing. Is the 2+2 rear strut longer then the 2 seaters? I will be droping them of to the mashiist today for modification as the iluminas dont fit the camber plates as well. Pain in the arse. Douglas
  22. Or you could save some money and used a trans from an audi or earlyer renault. They were front wheel drive but the engines were mounted north south. Douglas
